Basic D&D has been dead for longer than I've been alive, so I have to say that AD&D is D&D for all intents and purposes. I thought Greyhawk wasn't formalized into a setting until long after Dragonlance. I actually owned (for reasons unknown to me) a copy of one of the original D&D rulebooks, Expert rules if I'm not mistaken, and Keep on the Borderlands, too. I first read them when I had barely learned to read, when I was six or so, and I didn't realize what they were until I was seventeen. I dug them back up again, and they're still on my shelf. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Level 1 of some mountain. Sigh. You're in Mount Galthrax. Did Phaedra in fact die? Or did you just never pick her up on the way over to MG? If the former, you need to pick up her body wherever she died. Fringy: let me guess. You're under the age of sixteen, right? It'd be interesting to see what you think in about ten or fifteen years. Others: yes, prostitution is illegal in pretty much the entire United States. I think it's legal in Nevada (heartland of the casinos), but I'm not sure. We deal with it partly by making huge amounts of pornography, which often enjoys a semi-legal status, since it cannot be shown on normal TV and must have protections on the Internet and in video stores against distribution to people under the age of 18 (or 21 in some places). We also deal with it partly by having substantial amounts of illegal prostitution in various places. I've always thought America's stand on sexual things is in general pretty uptight and stupid, in particular when compared to Europe. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Among your abilities, I think there's one to change the character's graphic. Go to the same place as you would use alchemy, but don't click on the alchemy button. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Bahssikava is the place where the sliths came out after they were exiled. It's the location of the tunnel back to the homeland. It's not the homeland itself. And I suspect that some clan of the vahnatai had contact with the homeland sliths -- that's what I keep insinuating in the scenario Bahssikava, anyway. I suggest that because the ruins in Bahssikava Deeps in A1 sound a lot like vahnatai buildings to me. Also, I really hate the term Ermarian. It has nothing to do with the games, and it sounds ugly. I think it should be assumed to be an Exile thing and left out of Avernum. But that's just me. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! quote:(From the docs.) That is, only creatures specified as summonable can be summoned. If you clear out the entire creature when over-writing it, then it's no longer summonable, but if you just add on things, it still is. You can easily make something not summonable by using the trick to change default things and setting its class to -1. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. The HLPM right now is based primarily around using default objects (items, creatures, etc) for everything except the god items. I just may do this for the next version, in the same way that I'd add variety to the Arena. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Other than the one in the walkthrough? There's one in the Deeps right next to the gates, one in a secret passage behind the spawning altar in Ancient Bahssikava, three in the Catacombs, and one in Machinery. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I was hoping you'd make a save file from right before the crash, i.e., shortly before the cut scene starts. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. ef, do you have/could you make a save file right before the crash and send it to me? If not, it's okay, and I'll try to make do with just the knowledge of the location of the bug, but it would be helpful to be able to work with it. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Re Alec's post: D&D was the first to translate the wargame into a fantasy RPG, obviously, but it was more than that. I've read that D&D was the first to create a one-to-one correlation between players and PCs. The old wargames consisted of generals controlling sizable armies. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. You might want to post the area of the script near line 114 (say, from 100-120) so that we can see what's actually going on. BoA's error messages are often less than helpful. There are only three dragons in E3: Sulfras, Athron, and Khoth. Khoth is male and the other two are female. (Athron is the one with babies.) Place barrel. Place object. Repeat as necessary. If you're uncertain, use the "Edit Object" tool to edit the item, and make sure that it says Contained, not Not Contained. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. That wasn't the problem with my script, as I recall. Moreover, I don't uses braces every single time I use the if-else setup -- look at the early towns in Bahssikava. I don't think that's the problem. It's possible that species_in_party is bugged, or something bizarre is going on with the syntax here. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I never said it wasn't possible -- I just said it's not likely. How exactly did you get that money? There are a handful of businesses associated with National Merit that give reasonable amounts of money via that organization, but they certainly don't award to every qualified applicant. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Well, and the gigantic budget deficits we've been running. D&D is played variously by various people. In its most recent incarnation, there are essentially three manuals, some dice, and a whole host of other optional stuff, including miniatures. A number of players (usually 4-6, I think) sit around and talk through a story together. One person (the DM) narrates the story, and the rest of the people control one character in the story. They describe their actions, and the DM tells them the consequences. Usually this involves die-rolling and sometimes moving miniatures on a map. For more information, I refer you to Wizards of the Coast. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. As far as I can tell, you haven't mentioned anything about a custom objects script yet. You need to make something (an item, a terrain, a creature) actually has that graphic before it will show up in the editor.
