I think what that person was trying to say, and failed to do so, was that those pregnancies occurred for people who weren't trying to use contraception at the time of the conception -- not that they don't regularly, which is the normal meaning of that present-tense verb, or never have, which is a reasonable secondary meaning, but that in one instance they were not. I say this based on what it was contrasted with -- that half of the people were attempting to use contraception and failed at the time of the conception. That statistic may be right, but the way it was stated above is misleading and wrong. EDIT: And the fact that we have to debate what it refers to also suggests to me that it is misleading and bad. Let me rephrase that. I feel fairly confident the first one is total garbage. I don't know what AGI is, and that second statistic may be reasonably accurate if you take into account Third World countries and a number of other things that skew the data, but the first one simply cannot be true. If that were true, the population would be so badly misaligned in terms of gender ratio that it would be obvious. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Overwhelming, the point of the argument is that the choice is between having an aborted fetus and a living woman or having an aborted fetus and a dead woman. I'd take the former over the latter any day. Thuryl: if all we cared about were the end result, then why would we do anything? I mean, everything that you do will get washed over by time anyway. The idea, I think, is that the end result is not all that matters. You know this. Why am I explaining it to you? -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I could e-mail it to you, I suppose. The hintbook for A1 is useless if you know about Avernum Annotated Maps. The hintbooks for A2 and A3 are pretty good, though, because although other sites do have pretty good coverage, nothing is as comprehensive and easy-to-use. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Do a Google search. Any recent news will have it. I haven't actually taken the time to read about it, because of a sort of visceral reaction of "Ew." I don't really have an opinion. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Not to speak for Schro, here, but it is a bit hard to know how to respond to that unless you identify what your beliefs are. We know you're a Christian, and you've implied that you don't buy the theory of evolution, but which of the many possible arguments do you use against it? That the fossil record doesn't support the theory well enough? That it's incompatible with a strict interpretation of the Bible and therefore must be false regardless of the evidence? (To the point that maybe God created the world with these fossils in it already so that it looked like dinosaurs lived millions of years ago, but they didn't?) Or what? -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I found Dragonlance really to start sucking after about the eighth Weis and Hickman book. From Dragons of Autumn Twilight all the way through Dragons of Summer Flame, I thought it was the greatest piece of fantasy ever written, and then they came out with that War of Souls garbage, and I decided I probably wasn't going to read any more Dragonlance. I don't know what happened, but the War of Souls trilogy just struck me as idiotic. The characters were horrible, the plot was far-fetched, the writing was bloated, and resurrecting Tas yet again just struck me as wrong. But Legends is probably my favorite fantasy trilogy I've ever read. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. The other two forces (and they are called in English the "fundamental forces" usually) are just called the "strong force" and the "weak force." You might as well go and get a textbook on this sort of stuff. It seems like you have half of a grasp of most of this, and you just need to read about it a little bit more to figure it out. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. List of things it can't do... other than a weapon calling a state upon hitting a creature, what else? I can just put that in by itself if there's nothing else that jumps out immediately. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Take out the slash at the end of the link to the Designer FAQ, or else it won't work. Try to give slightly more information when you need help, please. I'm having a horrible time figuring out what you've done. So is the graphic actually numbered something between 500 and 600 in your custom graphics file? Does your script now match up to that? Is it a properly formatted graphic (bmp on PC, PICT resource on a Mac)? -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Are you trying to use a custom graphic? If so, it should be numbered between 500 and 600. The sheet, that is. So... * In corescendata, Augmented Giant (creature 135) ought to have the line "cr_which_sheet_upper = 1618;" Black line on the Rakshasa image? I don't see one. And are you saying that it_missile_anim_type doesn't work? If so, that'd be the first I'd heard of it. Also, I can't reproduce the put_stain_on_space bug. As far as I can tell, the call works. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls!
