Binge Drinking in General

I'm in my third year of college and have never gotten drunk, although not out of any aversion toward the prospect. I was brought up in a household that never contained even a drop of alcohol intended for consumption, so I've been vastly underexposed to the different varieties and such. I've only ever tasted beer (a total of maybe three bottles), white wine (a sip), and vodka (two sips). I disliked all three, although the beer and the wine were moderately tolerable. The vodka was almost certainly the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted. My first beer drinking experience was with a bottle of Heineken that I had to struggle to finish. Subsequently, I've had bottles of Corona that were much more drinkable and even pleasant with food.

Although I'm not antisocial, the majority of friends I've made, in high school as well as in college, haven't been the partying type at all. I'm much more comfortable with a small group hangout, but I'm fairly eager to give parties a shot.

And that shot might be coming pretty soon. I've been planning an alcohol tasting party with a friend of mine here, a party intended to allow those with very limited exposure to the different varieties of beverages and mixed drinks a chance to really give a bunch of different things a try. I'll probably end up liking the sugary chick drinks the best, as I can't stand to drink anything that's the slightest bit bitter.

My tolerance to drugs of any sort is extremely low, which is certainly useful at times. Two tylenols is always enough to take care of any headache or fever I might have, and a bottle of coke will keep me up many hours into the night if need be. The one shot of vodka I had was enough to make me a bit unsteady on my feet. I have a feeling I'll lose sensation to my tongue long before I get done with tasting all the drinks this weekend.

Hookahs have already succeeded in deflowering my once-virgin lungs this year, and I look forward to breaking new ground in a different direction over the weekend.

The parallel paths followed by the Roman and Celtic plots was beautifully engineered, and remains the most memorable element of Nethergate in my mind. This was best handled in the Faerie castle, where Roman and Celtic parties were recruited by opposing sides, for missions of, respectively, assassination and revenge.

Although I once planned to be a veterinarian, I've reconsidered in recent times. Nowadays I'm headed for pharmacy school, barring another change of heart. Currently I'm an Integrative Biology major in my third year of school at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

I've always found the Naga to be by far the most interesting race used in the Avernum games. I'd certainly form a storyline around them if I were to create a scenario. However, as I'm a dunce at coding and don't have the time or motivation to learn, that's certainly a lost cause. If someone were to design a scenario that expounded on the Naga and their culture, I would be most interested.

It's highly unlikely that Jeff will ever distribute any third-party game again, unless said game is deemed a sure-fire hit. By and large, he hasn't had much luck with it. SubTerra is probably the only worthwhile third-party game he has ever distributed. Most of the rest are merely forgettable, and a few (GC, Homeland) are so bad that they've become running jokes within the community.

Why must you continue to flatter yourself with such statements? No one here cares nearly enough about you to bother to hate you. In addition, I'd say you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone on these boards who even likes you, let alone loves you. You're generally regarded as a mild annoyance around here and nothing more.

For your sake, you really ought to stop dramatizing yourself incessantly. I hardly care whether or not you take this advice, but I do believe it would be in your best interests to do so.

My count doesn't look too bad either, and nearly all of my posts have been made while at school here at the proud UIUC. Once the initial spurt of blind enthusiasm and boundless work ethic loses steam (usually after a semester or so) you'll come back.

Of course, though, my GPA honestly sucks, so I'm sure Kel's a far better example to follow.

Disliking a particular genre of music due to qualms with its lyrics or "message" is very foolish. I'll quite willingly label any individual that judges a piece of music by the quality of its lyrics to be a downright idiot. If words are the most important part of a song to you, go read a goddamn poem. Or listen to Bob Dylan.

I judge songs by their musical quality and the extent to which they satisfy my tastes. I despise garish artificiality in music, along with headache-inducing pounding bass, banal cookie-cutter vocals, and emphasis on rhythm over melody. As such, I abhor rap and hip-hop, although modern pop is even worse and electronic music is the poorest of all. I like rock- namely, rock from the sixties and seventies. There's practically nothing of merit from the eighties, and only very little from the nineties. Modern rock is in general so formulaic and uncreative that hardly any of it is worth listening to at all. I can deal with classical music and jazz, but they tend to bore me with time.

Djur is unfailingly modest and humble, while never making the error of taking great pride in his modesty and humility.

t Rosy and Kel here's a fellow old-thread peruser.

I'm registered on both boards, although I post far more often on this board. I'm an occasional lurker at the Lyceum, and once in a long while, have something to say. I'm no ardent Blades player, but if I were I'd certainly favor the Lyceum. I don't exactly like Spidweb, but occasionally one can sift through the massive amounts of extraordinarily poor topics to find something rather worthwhile. The flame wars and rants, however, are the major elements at SW that tend to keep me coming back. There just aren't enough idiots around at Desp. or the Lyceum to make for entertaining conflicts.
