It's been a bit since there's been a new, relatively innocent topic, so I propose this:

Since most of you are pretty young (though this isn't limited to the young'uns), what do you want to do with yourselves when you get older? Why?

I struggled with this over the course of high school, college, and the rest of my early twenties. At different points, I wanted to be a physicist, a professional musician, an archaeologist, a classical scholar, and a foreign service officer. As a result of not settling with one vision, I have found myself in an office schlub position I resent, though I'm definitely happy with where I live. Currently, I'm studying for the LSAT, in hopes of becoming wealthy as an attorney, seeing as I likely will be dwelling in an office for years to come, and therefore plan to make the best of it.

How about y'all?

I'm planning on becoming a software engineer. I'll start university in Engineering, and if I don't like it, I'll just go into Computer Science and become a programmer instead. Before going to a Computer Science workshop, I was kind of interested in psychology, but really didn't know if that was what I wanted to do. Then this summer I went to an engineering camp, and made up my mind on my future career.

EDIT: Typo.

I want to start a shareware game company. I've wanted to make games ever since I was little.
I may also go into politics, but it's not likely.

Now, my ambitions tend to be on a day to day basis.

But I'd like to hold a book, hot off the printers, in my hand with my name printed on it. That'd be swell.

(and go on a date with Nicole Kidman, but never mind that.)

I'm taking classes in chemistry/physics/maths/programming after screwing up royally in (the Swedish equivalent of) high school.
I'll probably be studying physics or computer sciece at uni a couple of years from now, while writing and producing music on the side until people recognize my amazing  talent...

I just entered college about a week and a half ago.
My two concrete ideas are to major in Elementary Education--I spent quite a good deal of time in a fourth grade classroom last year and that really appeals, or to go into some branch of Library Science. I am (a bit) considering other ages for education--younger would be quite interesting, middle schools scare me, high school is a possibility but I'd have to decide what to teach and I have to clue. I really haven't experienced it at the college level myself, so I don't know about that. Education has always appealed to me (despite lack of decent pay.)

I'm pre-law with the intent of going into politics. I'm tired of just being angry about the system and want to try to do something about it.

Vote Kelandon in 2028!

I want to write better than TM, outmaneuver Kelandon in the primaries, and beat AM in court.

Obviously not in that order.

Rich, going to try and go into the City for that. Deadly, I have my ways of going about that. And last, but not least, at least Prime Minister. Kel, tell you what, you want make president in 24 years time? I'll match that. That would put me at about 39. Probably about 7 or 8 years after I get retired off (as is the norm, due to burnout), easily enough time to at least become Leader of the Oppostion, and who knows? I might manage a John Major. Just with a heck've alot less sleaze and other affiliated badness.

EDIT: And I thought I might add this, just for fun; Possuo uma fazenda de bode.

I'm thinking of being an astronomer and/or computer programmer. Consequently, I thought I'd learn computer programming while learning astronomy, so I'd know how to use the computer already (astronomers use computers for about everything). It could change, though.

I want to be a cellist for the orchestras in movies and traveling shows and do a bit of writing on the side. It would be great to just be a writer, but you need someway to pay the bills and stuff while you're an unknown and I like to travel(the rare times my family goes on vacations, the last one wa to Canada when I was about five years old) so being in orchestras would take me to all sorts of places. I used to want to be a vet(for animals, not war), but I want to be able to travel freely when I grow up and you need to be availble at all hours when you're a vet.

In high school I had serious thoughts of becoming an astronaut and leading the voyage to Mars. But oh well...

I'm still rather young, so I might have time to hit up my number 2 choice: rock star!

I want to be some kind of artist who also works with computers (probably doing something creative, not just data entry). I don't want to limit myself to potentially doing just one thing, and I like both drawing and computer-related things, so it just seems ideal for me to do that rather than something I hate.

Occasionally I also start to think about programming a game. I'm holding out for Pyg before I try that, though.

If this fails then I've decided to be someone who sits in front of his computer reading message boards all day. One of these two option will inevitably occur.

I'm in the middle of a biomedical science course, so that leaves me with a fairly well-defined set of options for after I graduate: academia, private research or consultancy, or science journalism. My preference between the three vacillates from day to day. If I get my PhD without having ever held down a serious job in a scientific field, I'll probably stay in academia by default.

Although I once planned to be a veterinarian, I've reconsidered in recent times. Nowadays I'm headed for pharmacy school, barring another change of heart. Currently I'm an Integrative Biology major in my third year of school at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

I was actress, journalist, event manager and galerist, I am now freelancing artist, writer and sexworker, and I want to buy a monastery or a church in Italy, to live independent. Maybe I'll write some books, probably I'll be in local politics.

All the other things, I wanted to be when I was a child (chemist, biologist, veterinary surgeon, ballet-dancer, classical singer, scene decorator, designer, film director, teacher, farmer, detective) have to wait until next life ^_^

edit: typo
