First of all, there are two inns in Gale. Make sure you're in the inn in the northeast and that you remember that the passage is in the northeastern storage room of that inn. If that doesn't work, get yourself thrown into prison by talking to unfriendly townsfolk or the mayor. You can get out through a secret passage and eventually leave town via a trap door in the southwest corner of the city. —Alorael, who would draw a clever parallel between being trapped by addiction and being trapped in the city of addicts if he were feeling witty right now. quote:MAR-len-ee as opposed to Mar-LEN-ee, if I remember correctly. —Alorael, who can see Enny as a wonderful nickname. It's also an obvious affectionate shortening of En, which is just a spelling out of N. Thus, everyone is using the wrong letter. Fools! Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I can understand being unfamiliar with most table-top roleplaying games, and the acronym may be unnecessarily obfuscatory, but how can you not know Dungeons and Dragons? It's the poster child of pen and paper games, it's been around for decades, and it gets all the best attention from media, conservatives, movies, and comics. Also, more social interaction from games than from parties is entirely a matter of the games you play and the parties you attend. —Alorael, who believes that White Wolf is the company that makes that vampire game. And some other games, too. They all use the same or similar systems. The details should be left to someone who knows more about White Wolf. What makes roleplaying games incompatible with a life? I understand that there may be correlation, but there's no causality. I suppose this all depends on your definition of life. Many definitions seem to revolve around not being a nerd/geek/other word, and those in turn are defined as not participating in certain activities. If a life is a restriction, why would anyone want it. Alternatively, some define life as participation in non-nerdy/geeky activities. Again, that is not incompatible with also being nerdy/geeky. —Alorael, who presents the above paragraph of a shining example of a red flag for being a geek and/or a nerd, although he still can't quite understand what either one means or what the difference is. quote:Cloud of Blades does physical damage. Basilisks are apparently just able to kill everything. —Alorael, who doesn't recommend using Cloud of Blades on doomguards anyway. That's not nearly enough damage to make up for all the splitting you'll cause on every doomguard in the area. They actually aren't terribly uncommon for junk items, but you have no reason to remember where they are. They're sold in the occasional odds and ends store and scattered here and there through Valorim. —Alorael, who can't recall any specific places with horns available. If all else fails you can turn to the editor. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

It's Cotra, not Coltra. The only powergaming I do is waiting until Camp Samuels before giving my casters bows, and sometimes doing the same for fighters. I also often buy some First Aid, because you can get along just fine without it until you can buy it with gold. —Alorael, who isn't quite that much of a compulsive optimizer. Close, but not quite. Topic necromancy! The point is that you can finish the game by only stopping two of the four plagues. Rentar can be defeated with the Filth and Golem Factories left untouched. They're both completely automated, so Rentar's disappearance shouldn't make any difference. It would really be a shame if the victory celebrations were interrupted by guests dropping dead of diseases and then getting dismembered by golems. —Alorael, who is also now curious as to why the vahnatai only use their monster production facilities to destroy the surface. Golems would certainly be useful in daily life, and also for rebuilding after Resting. And even more useful for fighting hydras and chitrachs! It's also pretty easy to give your party Dispel Barrier with the editor. Go to Edit Stats, click on Mage Spells in the bottom right area, and click the check box next to Dispel Barrier. —Alorael, who thinks this should be a good lesson. Don't kill royalty. They always win in the end! Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

To be a little clearer, those aren't items. Mithril comes in the form of a special item called Metal Lumps. You can find mithril in several places, but they're also used in other quests. —Alorael, who prefers Carmine's rewards to the other quests. The only downside is the patience requirement. Drayks do tend to be more generally useful than kyshakks, especially for their lower cost. Also, it's worth thinking about not raising the stats of a creation immediately. If the essence you save by making the drayk with only two points of intelligence for control allows you to make more creations, like another drayk, then you should probably go with that. —Alorael, who has found that most of the game makes having more creations more useful than having a few powerful creations. The difference in power tends to be fairly small until you're a tier or two higher in creations you can make. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

You can use any container, but it doesn't even have to be in something. As you may have noticed from walking through areas that you've already been through and killed many things in, stuff left on the ground tends to stick around forever too. —Alorael, who used assorted boxes and shelves in Fort Monastery depending on what he was storing and how likely he thought he was to want to find it again. But wait! What about parties? Nethergate>Exile>Avernum>Geneforge. —Alorael, who never quite adjusted to a party of one even when it was one in the company of seven others. Four party members plus one hanger-on plus baggage is a real party. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |
