Hurrah, I have fooled Imban and TGM by fooling them into thinking they had fooled me!

Why is it that nobody here understands my humour? Ah well, I should probably have added one of those smileys...

Actually, I'm sure any 64 years old wouldn't use such language as the afore-mentioned TGM occasionally do. But perhaps I'm just an ageist.

PS. Imban, it's Ironweed, not Ironwood. But don't worry, I wont be mad at you. This time. IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards How old are ya_files/tongue.gif) (the smiley added for obvious reasons)

OOC: Nether Dragons! And Haakai! Hmm. I sure hope someone has got a little deus ex machina ready to be used. Otherwise...blood, blood, splat, argghh, the end.

IC: Eirik stood up and ducked as something came flying against his head. The battle was furious as the men fought for their life. He felt a little better now, but to fight against the mightiest demons known? Forget it. That was the job of archmagi and...well, archmagi. Certainly nothing for a mere mercenary such as himself. As he turned around to flee, however, he only barely avoided getting caught in the claw of a dragon. Eirik screamed and jumped backwards, quickly deciding that he actually felt very good. How though could one demon be? Eirik, as so many men before him, found out that a dragon behind one's back improves the fighting moral greatly.

Eirik quickly grabbed a sword from a dead member of the crimson guard. It was a longsword and not very well balanced but it had to do. As he looked up, however, he understood that attacking the greater demons would be futile. He wouldn't even be able to scratch them, let alone slay them! There had to be another way!

Eirik screamed to Lavius who was engaged in a fight with one of the smaller demons. Lavius quickly looked around his shoulder and gave him a glance that seemed to mean: Help me kill these bastards! THEN we can talk!. Eirik understood and charged towards the demon. Lavius who saw Eirik running towards them with his sword lifted, moved left in order to block the demons sight. Then, as Eirik was almost there, Lavius suddenly jumped aside. The demon had not enough time to react. It still growled as its life swiftly ran out of the wound in the belly, caused by Eirik's sword.

Eirik turned to Lavius who wiped the sweat of his face. "You are a priest, and know more of the creatures of darkness than anybody else here. You also seem wise enough to understand that we will never achieve a victory here by fighting! Tell me, by what mean is it possible to banish the demons and the dragons back to the abyss from where they've come? There must be a way!"

OOC: Perhaps by killing their summoner? I'll leave that to Lavius, however.

Is this really the Never-ending Topic!?

Have I finally found it!?

Ahem...are you aware that no one reads through all these posts? I mean, you could care less about what kind of music people listens to (especially after having heard it about 10 times already) To post here is just to admit that one lacks a life. Hmph.

Eirik shaked his head and tried to understand what was about to happen. Not a good move. His head was still hurt and a massive slash of pain struck him. He silently moaned. As if two ghast attacks weren't enough for one day. Did he also have to suffer the wrath of an enormously powerful wizard and the worst headache he had ever experienced?

Eirik dimly noticed that all the people around him shouted and run back and forth, searching their weapons. Although he was only barely conscious, he understood that it was, most probably, not good. With some effort, he managed to stand up and survey the situation. From somewhere before him, he could, more sense than see, demons. A lot of them. And of course the mage, Jesitonia or something like that. Eirik reached for his sword, only to notice that it wasn't there by his side. The situation was quickly getting ugly.

Eirik, who knew enough of mages and of playing hero, crawled behind a pillar and hoped nobody would notice him.

As you said, in Plato's Cave Allegory the people don't want to see the reality. In the Matrix, they cannot see it even if they would want to. It's a small difference, but it's there alright.

First there was pain. Then there was something else as well, a presence. It was impossible to understand anything. Nontheless, the presence spoke words, calm words that run over his mind as gentle waves of cool water. He could feel that the pain was gone, at least for the moment. Then the presence bowed down and whispered to him, and was gone. Eirik opened his eyes and sat up.

His first impression was light. It was all around him. First he was scared but since the light seemed static enough, he calmed down. He could feel the cold, worn out stone floor under his hands. Eventually his eyes adapted to the light and Eirik got to take a good look at his surroundings.

He sat in a hall. It was not a very big hall but a hall nontheless. The walls where completly covered by bookshelves and though there was no windows, the strange light lighted up the room so that every single detail could be clearly seen. Eirik had been in many places in his life, but he had never seen anything like this.

OOC: Well, since Eirik is unconscious (after Galen had slowed down the curse that affected him), I came up with this idea to let him frolic around in his own mind for a time (and maybe search for an exit...). Since these kinds of situations seem to make me very poetic (read: write long posts) I'll try to cut them down a bit, describing one event at a time.

Weeee!!! You have a map that shows Lovisa! Yay! My home town!

Although I have to admit I'm confused. Lovisa has about 7000 inhabitants. Every other town on that map has at least 20000-30000...

And what would the School Certificate equal to in the Finnish school system? (asked with very little hope of getting a correct answer)

I really, really don't like to control other players charachters, but sometimes it's necessary. And even then I tend to avoid any big decisions (which of course results in me writing long nondescript posts that really piss of everyone else... ).

For example, in the Zombie Attack RPG my character has ended up unconsciuos (as a result of my own actions). There really isn't much to do about it. Quess I'll just have to wait and see how the situation develops further.

Eirik tried to push back the ghast, but his futile attempts didn't give any results. The ghast grinned and draw its wicked claws over his face, over and over. There was nothing to do, no release from the pain. Eirik dimly remembered another situation like this but he couldn't, no matter how he hard tried, recall wether it had been minutes or ages ago. Now there was no help to be found, only darkness and pain. Eirik's soundless scream echoed through the endless darkness.

Kel-Aziz turned to Lavius. "Your suggestion bears some wisdom. Within the crypts we will probably have an easier time defending us. At least there will be no windows", he said and managed to produce a little smile that quickly faded away. "And perhaps the people who are already down there can aid us."

Galen, who had silently listened, spoke. "Well then, master Kel-Aziz. I suppose you know what is best. But what sha..."
The Wanderer jumped high as Eirik suddenly screamed.

"AAAHH..they are...coming for me... Help me...I...NOO...I will not...go with them...release me...help..he..."
His voice died away. The rest of the group looked at each other, startled.

"He is raving! What curse have been laid upon him!? We must get away from here!" Kel-Aziz raised his hands and the shouts faltered.

"Galen and Lavius. You are the strongest of our group. Therefore, you will carry him. If anyone knows something about curses - his eyes met Oscevello - do what you can. We will know move on into the crypt, until we find a more easily defendable place." The people in the shrine seemed unsure wether descending deeper into the crypt would be a wise solution but Kel-Aziz aucthority was enough to convince them. They started packing their things.

Kel-Aziz turned to Oscevello. "One of us should probably try to connect with the other group that is already down there. They might need our help, and we most certainly will need theirs. Would you like to do this task. It is not safe but probably still safer than what we will have to do." He raised his hand again, as Oscevello opened his mouth. "This is an important task. Nobody will accuse you of cowardly behaviour. Go now, and do your best!" Oscevello nodded and turned to go.

Kel-Aziz surveyd the battlefield. It was over and therre was still more to come. He hoped that Lynn and the others could strike a blow against Jesitonia and ruin her plans. Otherwise, it wouldn't matter how long or bravely they would defend themselves. They would be doomed anyway.

Kel-Aziz sighed and followed Galen and Lavius, who where carrying the still raving Eirik, down into the deepths.

I'm not entirely sure I agree with Arancyatar regarding number 4 (thou shalt be true to the character of your character).

It's not that simple. I think characters should always be given the opportunity to develop, especially mentally (right word?). It is possible to change one's opinion, after all. Why couldn't the character be altered by what he/she does and experiences?

I think it would be very boring to have to play with a character that reacts in the same way with every encounter. A paladin doesn't always have to be that goody-goody type. People have many sides and breaking the normes just "deepens" the character and makes him more interesting. After all, people's minds aren't usually that simply built.

And finally, this is only one opinion.

I've stumbled upon Neuromancer. That was after I had watched the Matrix. Now I understand where the Wackovski (if that's how it should be spelled) brothers got their ideas from.

But the book was good. Gibson really knows how to "poetisize" the future world and the "data-lifestyle". Needless to say, you won't understand what I'm talking about unless you read the book yourselves.

The Nethergate intro is great (as mortification8 already mentioned).

On average, I don't really care about the video game + song combination. Songs are songs and games are games. May they ever be apart. Background music - okay. But not any real songs. They just mess up the playing experience (and vice cersa).

Eirik leaned against one of the walls and sighed. The group had fended of a great number of zombies but it seemed they were infinite. Someone (or something, he thought and shuddered) had to be preparing for the final assault. Unless of course, he was participating in it at this very moment.

Suddenly a big ghast jumped through one of the windows with incredible force, knocking Chivon to the ground. Eirik lifted his bow although he knew it was of no use at this distance. The ghast was over him before he could even scream. There was nothing he could do. The ghast howled and then lowered its claws. Eirik screamed of fear and pain as the claws sank into his face and violently rolled around on the floor with the ghast on top of him. The pain was unbearable.

Suddenly the ghast was gone. Eirik had almost fainted and he could only barely hear how the others screamed. Kel-Aziz, it seemed, batteled with the ghast while the others still defended the shrine.

Eirik, however, didn't care anymore. He felt as if he was dreaming. All the screams sounded as if they came from a long distance. He shut his eyes. The pain was to much, finally. Mercifully he sank down in the darkness below. And then there was no more.

OOC: I'm not planning to kill him, don't worry.

EDIT: But, I can imagine he will be severly wounded. And when I use the word severly, I usually mean it.

God, I'm sounding cruel.

And forgive my cliche-like description of Eirik's fainting...

I think godlike characters can be dealt with. You can always put an "amulet of non-godlike powers" in their pocket when they aren't looking. IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Ruined RPs_files/tongue.gif)

But still godlike characters aren't very fun to play with. Marooner's right in this. An allpowerful character has only one one option: to always succeed. Therefore it's quite boring to play with such characters.

I don't care if the RPG has a plot/hasen't a plot/has a silly plot/has a good plot. All I'm interested in is how my character (and all the others of course) react to the different situations.

May I have your attention please: SW will only tolerate three RPG at a time. Currently there are three running: "Hold the Tavern Front", "Zombie Attack 2", "The Greywraith Clan" and "The fall of the Star Clan".

Ehh, wait a second. Yes, there are four of them. *sigh* We can only hope that Imban doesn't realize that.

Anyway, this seems to be the general rule. So it's in other words totally useless to put your souls into the making of a new, brilliant RPG for the moment. Unless you like being gunned down, at least.

Why do I even bother? Nobody will read this text. Couldn't some mod do the informing job? All those locked topics will get irritating in the long run, anyway.
