I'm willing to say there's been a consensus; if anyone disagrees, they're welcome to say so, and I'll give it a couple of days before I dig out a new prompt.

How is one person being born poor and another being born rich work out even in a 'perfect' world?

Do private schools not exist in a 'perfect' world?

Do luxury products not exist in a 'perfect' world? In a 'perfect' world, do tutors work for free, instructional books cost nothing?

Are food, clothing, and housing free?

How about college? Free? No bonuses to entry based on 'legacy'? No cost for room, board, supplies?

Are family-based connections illegal? Is nepotism in management illegal? Connections to government?

How about inheritance of land, or stores, or businesses?

That's not 'idealism', it's selective ignorance.

Everyone aspires to their dreams. If everyone was capable of achieving them, there'd be more billionaires than homeless.

To repeat the question you sorta dodged last time: why does one child deserve to have more opportunities because he is born into a richer family? What choice does anyone have about who their parents are?

Why should Melinda Gates get whatever she wants out of life without any work, while John Q. Public Jr. has to work his ass off for so much as a chance to succeed?

Why do you believe that having the blind luck of being born to rich parents should afford a child more opportunities than a child which had no such blind luck? Do you feel this is at all in keeping with a strictly meritocratic system, equality of opportunity, and such concepts, or is it more of an aristocratic aspect?

The idea of inheritance is essentially disingenious and deleterious to the concept of an egalitarian, democratic society.

Discuss.

I refuse to acknowledge anything Hobbes says as correct, for instance. I refuse to have any truck whatsoever with his damnedable social contract, and I'm sure as hell not going to drop to my knees and start beating off because the poor are not directly subject to the hungering of wolves.

Name-dropping is essentially useless in philosophy, and I'm certainly not going to condone a 'philosophical' discussion which focuses so damned heavily on ontology; while there is a time and place for the nature of being in this kind of discussion, under most circumstances getting into that turns it into a debate-class circlejerk where actual truth becomes meaningless and the only particular criterion for success is greater experience in sophism.

Any such debate is about as worthwhile as mounting a birthday cake and bragging about being able to eat whatever the birds didn't get because no one else wanted to put food which you had rubbed your sinful bits on in their mouths. And if you turn this into a debate on what purpose debate ought to serve, I'm going to lynch you.

Too burly, IMO. BoE sliths are thinner -- think a medium between that and the default BoA ones.

I've more or less reconciled myself to the fact that I'll never actually do anything for BoA no matter how hard I try, and instead I have been making absurd monsters for BoA which no one with a fear of God and a love for mankind will ever use.

Well, GF games cost $30 whereas BoE scenarios are dirt cheap on a per scenario basis. The expectations are higher, and there are some BoE scenarios that are better than any Geneforge game.

Oh yes, I have a funny feeling there will be a Geneforge 4.

And a Geneforge 5, and a Geneforge 6, maybe a Blades of Geneforge.

Then he will be reviving an old favorite. I've got a reasonably strict NDA, but I don't think I'll be spoiling anything by telling you it's called Hel and involves the Geneforge engine.

Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin
And eyes of emerald green

Your smile is like a breath of spring
And your voice is soft like a summer rain
And I cannot compete with you Jolene
And he talks about you in his sleep
And there is nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, Jolene

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene,
I'm begging of you please don't take my man

I find it interesting you believe religion should be utterly comprehensive and yet are discomfited by the presence of lady parts.

Sounds like an urban legend to me, but still...

Borges is the other magical realist everyone knows. He comes recommended, with the caveat that most people, upon first having read Borges, will instinctively try to imitate him.

One Hundred Years of Solitude is like being hit in the brain with a sledgehammer, in a good way. Reading it is like watching God make love to a movie star.
Comes heavily recommended, and is probably not as 'dry but fascinating' as you'd think.
