Well, I'm pretty upset because 100,000 people are dead and more are dying on a daily basis, and there's not a whole lot we can do about it.

Compared to the other 99,000, I really could care less about 1,000 tourists.

I'm buying Homeward Bound as soon as possible. Because I have not read it yet, I wish the same fate upon you, be it good or bad.

Plagues don't count as natural disasters. At 100,000, it's readily the worst natural disaster in living memory, becoming one of the worst human tragedies in living memory (as the survivors of Hitler are by and large dead of old age and the survivors of Mao are aging), and certainly the worst quake or tsunami in history to my immediate knowledge.

100,000 is a lot of people to kill in one sitting, it should be remembered, and 'was it the worst?' just seems petty compared to the damage it has done.

Wave toll 'could exceed 100,000'

I'm pretty much speechless.

And SPS embodies a reaction to clever, nuanced fusion of combat and plot. I fully plan to make a spiritual successor which is a nice, straightforward, non-philosophical romp, either for BoE or BoA, in the eventual future.

It's either in Exile 1 or an effort by Akhronath to fake us all out.

Good for you. Seems pretty contrarian and kneejerkish to me, but hey, whatever does it for you.

Potential problem: killing someone and making it look like an accident. Unless we prosecute both a real and a hypothetical 'accident' as murders, someone who has actually committed a crime will get away with it.

I agree that the only factor is retribution. However, in this case (as opposed to, say, a death penalty debate), you're not dealing with retribution directly conflicting with any of the other priorities of the criminal system.

That's completely absurd and you know it. Laws trend towards non-arbitrary boundaries over time, and there is absolutely no non-arbitrary boundary separating charging someone who could have killed someone in a particularly nasty car crash but didn't with the crime of someone who did and pulling someone who takes a shot of tequila out back and shooting them in the back of the head for treason -- I mean, they could hypothetically drink quite a bit more, and they could hypothetically own a car, and they could hypothetically hit another car due to being drunk, and that car could have hypothetically contained the President of the United States.

There is a definite non-arbitrary boundary between prosecuting real crimes and prosecuting any hypothetical crimes, whereas there is no definite non-arbitrary boundary between prosecuting certain hypothetical crimes and prosecuting any other hypothetical crimes, and by extension punishing anyone to any degree at any time for any reason.

Why shouldn't they? One of them killed someone, the other didn't.

WHY IS NO ONE MAKING ANY NEW SCENARIOES in Blades of Avernum
Bob's Big Date

I am making this topic because it is a completely new idea and I am apparently the first person to complain at this OUTRAGE: that NO ONE has made ANY Blades of Avernum scenarioes.

Today I opened up BoA and played Za-Khazi Run for the sixteenth time. AND ITS STILL AWESOME!!!!!! BUT we need more scenarioes GENTLEMEN and I'm not about to make them, I'm better at playing them. :D :D :o ^_^

I have an idea for a plot: the Vanahti make another MONSTER PLAUGE and you have to kill RENTAR-INHRO to stop it!!!!!!!!!!!! It is not that hard to make a BoA scenario with a MASTER PLOT such as this. The plague is super-vahnatty who shoot rasordisks from their hands!!!!! Someone should make a graphic for this. And the hero is CLOUD!!!!!!!!!!

This scenario should be made by Jeff Vogel because hes the best ;) ;) :D and he doesnt use swears like TERRORISM ARTER who is a wacky Iraqui!!!!! :(

who has a graphic for cloud so we can get this show on the road

Suppose you have made a suicide pact with your best friend. You each have a gun to the other's head in a position which will reuslt in an instantly fatal shot. You each hesitate -- so instant mutual death is not possible.

(As for how you got there, assume that you both had your judgement incredibly impaired. Sub gender as necessary.)

You want to live. You do not know about whether he does or not, but you know he will shoot; do you shoot him or let him shoot you?

Assume you each have one bullet. If your failing to kill him wastes your bullet and makes him killing himself impossible, is your answer the same?

What if the authorities are involved, and will inevitably capture whoever kills the other -- and there is no provision for self-defense... is your answer the same?

What if this takes place near the South Pole and will not be remembered by history nor discovered by any authority -- is your answer the same?

The choice, as presented, is shoot the person or shoot yourself.

Shoot the person. They'll die anyway, and killing yourself won't really do anyone any good.

Match 4: Josef Stalin v. WeMMu

As soon as the match began, WeMMu busted a rap which was all too likely sick and/or fat, but being in Finnish, we couldn't tell.

Then Stalin purged him in the face.

WEMMU 1
JOSEF STALIN 9
