Eferas sat in silence as the last rats were dispatched by the other mercenaries after the injured ratten had finally collapsed, also somewhat helped along by the solid whack Firedrake had dealt to its head. Luckily, none of the rats engaged him again; he would not have been able to deal with any opponent right now. Deciding whether to use another of his four remaining energy potions, he preferred to wait until the nausea had passed. Who knew how many times he would need the potions again in the tower, and it was absolutely impossible to restock now. He wished he had been a little less miserly back at that shop. Few of his fellows were remotely capable of magic, and he did not suppose they had more potions than he did. As the fight was over, Molek and the other rebel soldiers pressed the group on. Not immediately standing up, Eferas got a nasty comment concerning old men's stamina and suitability for fighting. He considered giving the guy a scorched nose. Still more folly, to waste your energies on that kind of thing. He contented with returning the jibe, threatening jokingly to light a fire under the lower back of the soldier and seeing how much faster he would run. He got up, saw swirling colors and nearly fell back down, but steadied himself on his staff, and drained a second potion after all. Three left, he reminded himself, before striding resolutely on. At that moment, he felt a few particularly large bursts of magic from upwards ahead. Strange - He could normally feel only very major spells from that far away. Some powerful magical battle must be going on, probably in the tower itself, improbable though it was. Whatever was happening, they would have to deal with it when they got there, and Eferas had heard Molek mentioning there were still miles ahead. Well, better start walking then. -------------------- Visit The Santharian Dream and its RP board. Or the Encyclopaedia Ermariana! Got a brain? Go to Polaris! OOC: I really hate to go ooc again, but please, would someone explain the situation to Firedrake and Zephyr? They seem to be a bit confused here. The rat battle had only just begun; the ratten is moderately injured by the Fire spell Eferas spoke, but it is by no means defeated yet. And Eferas himself is near coma from overdraining. This will probably take long, and you can't just skip it. IC will follow when it's cleared up. -~=UNDER CONSTRUCTION=~- Edit: IC doesn't need to follow in this post, since in our scene, my post is the last one. Nazgul, it's Ratten. It resembles a wererat from what I've seen in a few other RPG games, but Ratten is actually the name Milla mentioned. Btw, did you know Ratten is 'rats' in german? You didn't list EVOL M$. So I felt compelled to choose the oil industry. Who knows what they're doing behind the scene in the US government at the moment? Alorael would win, from the ones listed. His wicked &mdash and his sniping rifle are without equal. But I'd beat them all one-handed. OOC: Delgar made an illusion and tricked Fluffy into running into the cavewall, knocking himself out. That's how he freed Arcadia. You got a raw deal there, Enraged Slith. You get to fight Zephyr now. At least the spell's gonna wear off soon. Edit referring to FB's post below: See what I mean by raw deal? Fluffard McMuffin is gonna resemble a pincushion by the time this is over. IC: Eferas looked apprehensively at the new menace that was coming to meet them now. The situation seemed easy enough to deal with, but he was tired beyond imagining by the fireballs and especially the flame ray that he had cast to light the tunnel up. He tentatively cast a Firestorm - "Kai'Efer'Herin", Great Fire Cloud - aiming to the right of the ratten - seen from Eferas' point - where the rats stood thickest. What should have mostly ended the fight if the party had been fighting a normal foe, failed to do much difference. At least half of the rats had received so major injuries that Eferas would have expected two thirds of them to drop dead, the last third turning to flight. Instead, all of them rose again, except for five or six that had been powdered by the explosion of the storm, standing at the epicentre of the impact. The ratten was also slighty scorched on its left side now. "The furry guy there in the middle is controlling them? That should be no problem." Eferas said, more to reassure himself than anyone else. There had been situations like this before, but he had never encountered that degree of total control. He could probably pick apart the rats slowly by continually throwing fire until they were all burned away so much that reanimation was impossible - but Eferas was growing tired. He would need to finish this now, and with little expenditure. He needed to place ONE strong spell directly square on the ratten, and the battle would be over. He raised his staff once more, spun it around while chanting unrecognizable words in a tongue even more strange than what he had spoken in his spells earlier, at the same time familiar - a harsh, but flowing language, full of a and o vowels, rolling heavily through his mouth, but not guttural. With a shout, he brought the staff to rest and levelled it at the creature that the cat woman had called a ratten, which reminded him faintly of the wererats he had encountered elsewhere in his travels. "CARTHRAMMEN!" Eferas shouted, his voice now unnaturally thunderous, but it might also have just been the echos down in these caves. A ray of blazing fire shot from the staff, sped through the midst of the rats towards the ratten... ...and narrowly missed. Grazing the side of the creature, the missile passed onwards to slam into a whole flurry of rats, instantly turning to ash about sixteen of them. At least it'll have a hard time raising *those* again. But the ratten itself was, in spite of the wicked burn along its entire right side from cheek to thigh, still far from killed like Eferas had intended with his spell. As if to underline this, two of the sixteen, that had been charred beyond recognition, but not disintegrated to powder, rose again as if alive, and continued their advance. Their fur was burned away, their flesh blackened and charred bones were visible here and there. One was missing its head. Yet they continued onwards, an unnerving and sickening sight. Eferas suddenly stumbled, his eyes milky. Foolish, to speak words of power in a weakened state like this, he scolded himself, while weakly fumbling for an energy potion with his left hand, his right closely gripping the staff so hard his knuckles were white. Hopefully the others could finish off the severely injured ratten and its remaining followers, about ten in number. He drained the potion he had drawn from his pack, and, with a face the color of bleached paper, collapsed into a sitting position. The potion would keep him alive and prevent death from overdraining, but he wouldn't be casting anything so soon again... Um, even a really small, good scenario usually takes more than a month. Not including inspiration. You can put something together within a two days. But you can't make me play it. In BoE, the monster attacks were after the xdy+z system, where you take a certain number of dice with any number of sides, roll them and add a third, constant number. Dunno if it stays the same in BoA. 1.), 2.) With the scripts, you're bound to be able to simulate dice easily. Heck, I can do it on my calculator, so it should be possible in a script! :D Like (this is not any specific language, but the commands exist in most languages afaik) 3.) You can't manipulate the dice itself, but if you know the rules and the math, you can set the xdy+z to have a specific range, average, and even concentration of results throughout the curve! If you throw one die, the curve is flat because all results have the same likelihood. If you throw two dice, the average will come up twice as often as with one die. Trust me, I seriously spent some time on that problem, just for this purpose actually (finding the right numbers for BoE scenarios :D ) I don't have any idea on how to set the dice so the average is not exactly in the center between maximum and minimum. With XdY+Z, the average always is (max+min)/2, so it's in the center of the range. 4.) If you can program the dice at all in the script, the number of sides and the number of dice are no more than variables that can be changed. 5.) I don't know what you mean by this one. Make the attacks, parries, etc. be represented by dice? I guess you'd have to ask Drakey for that one. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. Or at least wait till it's finished. I'm not saying you shouldn't make announcements, this is General after all, and the thing concerned is spidweb-related, but I must say that I can understand it pisses people off if you post a half-finished announcement that you edited out because you haven't decided the rules yet. IC: When the elder aranea had first appeared, Eferas' senses had shut. He had still been cowering against the ground, safely away from the talking spider, when this huge monstrosity appeared, making the friendly spider seem almost cuddly by comparison. Eferas had not even got out a scream before he had collapsed to the Earth with a thud, his face pale as parchment in shock. Eventually, he came around. "Is it gone?" was his first question. "I killed it. It's over there." was Firedrake's reply. Eferas deliberately turned his eyes the other way. Even dead, a spider was a horrible sight to him. Firedrake spoke again. "We should continue on before someone finds this tunnel." "Yes, let's go. We've wasted enough time here." Eferas said without even blushing, as though he hadn't just got up from where he had lain on the floor unconscious. OOC: Since Spider interacted with Eferas, may I post again? IC: Eferas turned around, made curious by this chittering voice. "You're old, but cute." It chirped now in an unnerving way. Eferas couldn't immediately see where the voice was coming from. Fortunately. Then he noticed. His response was fairly obvious, and frantic as well. "RAAAAHHH! EEEEEKKK! OOC: This is breaking apart to quarrels and flames. At least I am relieved I'm not the only one who slightly disagreed with your post, Nazgul. Leave out the survivor and the questioning since it's unnecessary (*goes to his post above to edit it out*), but please for Heaven's sake allow me to play my character. I think that the way I wrote my recovery was actually better than the two lines of dialogue with Arkadia, "can you heal him?" - "No probs." Have you ever thought of the possibility of powergaming/god-acting an NPC? I think that's what you're doing with Arkadia. No offense. just a bit of advice from a 'left-out-feeling' rp newbie. OOC: Darn it. I knew I mustn't leave my character out cold for a whole night. This is late. IC: Eferas suddenly woke from his unconsciusness. He was lying on the ground, but he could not think clearly for the abominable pain that was in his entire right side from shoulder down to his leg. It must have spread. Poison, he realized immediately. Damn, healing spells are not in my area of study. Moaning slightly, Eferas turns around to get at his pack that lies next to him. Opening it, he takes out one of the three healing potions and drains the flask in one long gulp. He feels slightly better, but the stinging pain of the poison in his veins remained. Time for a Purge Blood spell, he thought, lucky I can at least cure poison, as he searched for the sppropriate spell. ((ooc: it's a fire-based cleansing, just so you know)) "Fer'Unan'pha!" - Fire clean blood! - he mumbled, spreading his still sulfur-coated hands over the wounds. A searing pain engulfed him for a minute or two, making him gasp, but as it passed he knew that the poison was largely gone from his blood stream. His wounds now only aching slightly, he found his staff, straightened it on the ground and pulled himself up, stopping to pick up his pack and sling it over his back again. Standing up, he surveyed the battle scene around him and noted that the remaining assassins had deserted the field. He had had no time to count them, but there had to be around two dozen. He had obviously come just in time for the bodies to be hidden; he counted twenty that were dragged into the bushes. The mage Arkadia then seemed to cast some sort of spell over them, and went towards him. "You need any healing?" she asked. "No thanks, I'm patched up all right now." Straightening his back, he went after the others, who were now heading onwards toward the cave entrance. ((ooc: I edited the post, Nazgul. Hope you're happy now.
