Huh? I broke the CoC? IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Culture (3)_files/confused.gif)

That last post wasn't nice, admittedly - ef, I might have been here a while, but not so long that I'd know about his spelling problem.

But I didn't harass him, did I? IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Culture (3)_files/rolleyes.gif)

And also Death not only posted before me, but he also was quite a bit more explicit than I. Yet, ef, as soon as I commented, you accused *me* (or at least Imban did in the next post). Why?

He's dead though, so what can he do about it?

IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Pratchettian Mathematics (3)_files/tongue.gif)

The cross sum is just in order to keep it cyclical of course. Btw, if you start such a sequence with any two digits from 1,1 to 9,8, you only get four different sequences (the fifth would contain only 9,9,9,9 etc.). All of those sequences, with one exception, turn back on themselves after an equal number of elements. The exception is 3,6,9,6,6,3,6,9, etc. I haven't yet figured out why that is so... The series is actually made by adding the last two elements, but taking only the cross sum of the result to keep it to one digit.

So,

2+3=5
3+5=8
5+8=13, 1+3=4
8+4=12, 1+2=3
4+3=7
3+7=1
7+1=8
1+8=9
8+9=17, 1+7=8

and so on.

I'd comment on LoE being the new FB, but I don't want to insult Zephyr with the comparison; even in his worst days he wasn't as bad... IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Culture (2)_files/tongue.gif) And, LoE, 4*-words don't work here. IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Culture (2)_files/tongue.gif) But I must congratulate you on managing to spell it sufficiently well for the curseword filter to recognize it.

I certainly hope so, too.

But we'll have to wait for Alo, or Drakey for an answer. I think one of them or both, are beta-testing BoA. Is this correct?

OOC: Not when he's in a feral rage. Magically induced, on top of that. I'm afraid you'll have to think of something better, Zephyr.

IC:

Just then, another green, human-like blot in the darkness appeared. Eferas' invisibility had faded.

Ah well, nothing to change about that. We have to fight anyway.

Focusing his mind on the ferocity, ever-flowing change, and yearning of the Fiery element, he prepared to cast his spells. He would start with a Fire Wall, as soon as Alcove and the one Arcadia had said was charmed to do her bidding returned. Since one of their two opponents was a rebel, he knew he would have to cut back on the damaging spells till the charmed mage was out of the line of fire, and preferrably free of the charm as well. Where's a potion of Clarity when you need one?
A Fire Wall would provide some reasonable defense without doing harm, not as much use as a Null field would be, but it had the advantage of being a spell that Eferas could cast, unlike the Null field. It would have to do...

OOC: Is this going to continue soon? I'm sorry, btw, for being late for about 24 hours. My i-net connection gets these 'downtimes' when my homework habits start to decline. IMAGE(rolleyew.gif) IMAGE(tongue07.gif)

OOC: Sorry, remembered now. Will change it in a jiffy. Changed. It's lucky to have a spare soldier in reserve who made the same comments... IMAGE(tongue06.gif)

IC: Eferas felt the battle almost immediately above him. Only feeling it rather than seeing it allowed for a curious phenomenon: He distinctly felt four separate entities performing magic now, judging from the 'feel' of the magic that was unique to each person.

But there was something that didn't fit in. One of the presences was strangely weak, as if it was not quite there. And the magic he sensed was no kind of battle magic, but only illusionism. This was something he would have to investigate when he saw it.

The other rebels were right now fighting the guards, forming their tactics for storming the tower. He was directly in the fray. "Hey, old man, don't just run ahead! You can't storm the tower on your own!"

"Oh yes?" Eferas replied in his usual melodic wheeze. He pulled an invisibility scroll from his pack... This is getting risky. Should I really use that one now? What remained now was a hasting and a Teleportation scroll. Curious coincidence.

*...*

- "Now you're just plain powergaming." -

- "Okay, maybe I'll leave the teleport out." -

- "Not that I'm not satisfied to have that kind of luck, Aran." -

- "Yeah, but it does get stupid after a while, Eferas. So hand me the teleport scroll back..." -

IMAGE(tongue06.gif)

*...*

...remained no was only a hasting scroll. Reading the invisibility spell out loud, he felt his body becoming translucent, then vanishing altogether. The soldier who had addressed him gasped, then swore. "Darn mages! Always think they're invulnerable superheroes." He addressed the emptyness before him. "You'll get yourself killed, and serve you right."

But Eferas was already gone further up the half-ruined stairs. He knew that the invisibility would last less than fifteen minutes, so he would have to find the mages quickly, or all the guards in the tower would come after him.

He was now racing up the central stairs at the tower like a madman. I'll feel this in my bones when the Blood Boil fades... There. A door behind which the battle was clearly felt. He slowed down, and softly, very slowly opened it a bit, then gazed through. No one seemed to be watching at the moment, since they were intent on dodging each others' spells. And he could see now more than ever that something was wrong:

Before him stood four visible people. What he felt with his 'inner' eye were three mages - glowing bright with inner power -, and two strangely hazy things like constructs, even having something resembling the inner power of a mage. Illusions. And bloody good ones too. Even mages, who saw with their magic sight rather than the normal vision, would be fooled. No one who was in the heat of battle would figure out that the illusion was not real.

But still he was confused. Why were there five entities, and only four visible? Would anyone be so stupid as to turn an illusion invisible?! No, it must be something else. In that moment, out of the empty air came another spell and struck one of the mages square, but bounced off the magical defences.

Great. Now I just need to figure what side I'm on. There's Arcadia, but she hasn't cast anything yet... Well, he still had approximately five minutes before he would become a target for either side...

((ooc: Feel free to take him over, I'll be back for the next IC only in ca. 8 hours. Let him survive. He can cast powerful fire magic, notably can use one word of power - the word is 'Carthrammen' as used earlier. It drains him a lot. He has little reserves in that respect. He still possesses 3 energy potions, 4 healing potions. He also has a small obsidian dagger he can cause to burst into flame at will, but keeping the fire going takes his energy.

There. Don't worry about playing his personality wrongly, this is a battle after all. He will, btw, not kill any opponent, just weaken their magical defenses to the point where they can be captured. He hasn't seen any of the mages before except Arcadia, so he'll fight anyone she's fighting as soon as she casts the next spell. See you in 8 hours. IMAGE(smile007.gif) ))

My school actually is an international school, people there are mostly from America, Germany and Japan. From what everyone has posted here, you'd think the Americans would be the toughest ones who get in trouble most, no? Far off. It's the German guys doing most of the bullying and troublemaking. IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards just a thought (2)_files/tongue.gif) It might have to do with all the others getting sent to this school just because of language problems (parents from firms abroad working in Germany etc.), while the Germans are just guys who can't cope with the normal school system or whose parents have too much money. I'm of the former, but I only had trouble with bad grades, not any rulebreaking and stuff. Honest IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards just a thought (2)_files/tongue.gif) !

Riding lizards like horses on the surface, or using chariots, is a cool idea. I think, though, that you can accomplish it by fiddling with the graphics. But that would mean you can only ride either lizards or horses in a single scenario.

About clouding the maps. I think it's possible to reset maps in the editor. But there probably isn't a way to limit it to a single town. :(

OOC: I'd prefer to survive, thank you. IMAGE(tongue05.gif) MSW, I won't take over any of the fight scenes, but don't be surprised if Eferas intervenes at some point. He'll soon be able to pinpoint the duel, and unless the circumstances demand he deal with Balty first, he'll probably go after the magic battle since it's more familiar ground.

Btw, what 'death bracelet'? Ah yes, the one that kills her on Balty's whim, right?

IC: "AATTTAAAAAACK!" Eferas moved out of the tunnel again, and saw several soldiers shaking from the blast and the loud sound of the explosives. He himself had been shaken out of balance a bit, but was otherwise unaffected and not even nervous - as a pyromancer he was used to far greater cataclysms.

He decided that the battle might follow within the next twenty to thirty minutes, and prepared himself. Taking out the large obsidian dagger, which was almost the length of a short sword, he once more reached deeply into his pouch of sulfur, mingled the powder with the sweat of his hands and coated the weapon with it. A single word, and the blade would erupt in magical flame, which would last as long as Eferas could keep them going.

He also took out the ruby and set it in the smallsocket at the tip of his staff. The gem would amplify his spells greatly - he did not usually use it since it drained him significantly.

Finally, he touched his left hand to the nape of his neck and the right to his heart, chanting softly, almost whisperingly, "Fer'Pha'Kyl" - and immediately felt his body speeding up and growing stronger as his blood temperature climbed by at least thirty degrees. He would later feel burnt out as if from a fever, but for the next hour he would be quicker and more agile.

He was now able to race up the tunnel just as quickly as the other soldiers. As he passed by the soldier who had made the scathing comment earlier on, he turned his head and shouted "What about that 'old man' now, eh? Never seen a wizard in his best years running, have you?", laughing with the sheer delight for his increased speed - it was a spell he rarely had opportunity to use.

He also felt the magical battle rather strongly now, lying just ahead and above. He would see if he should maybe go there instead, he would be more in his element in an arcane fight than in the melee that the rebels would start with Baltazar's guards. That was a decision he could make later, he thought as he passed through the illusionary wall.

Edit: Someone move this along, will you? IMAGE(wink0005.gif)

But I think a lot of it is just a joke. I'm not swallowing the murders Alo mentioned, for example.

Underage drinking gets at least five students sent home early each year on our school's fieldtrips.

And I think we had a drug incident last year where people were using the electronic scales from our science lab to weigh drugs, and someone stole a labtop from the school. All of those people were expelled (except the underage drinkers, they just got into serious trouble).

It's x²+y² = r². If you write r you have to write a sqare root over the other side.

As far as I can see, it doesn't represent a circle, but the distance from the origin to the point (X,Y). Of course, this distance can mean the radius of a circle with the origin as center and (x,y) on the perimeter.

But you can use this formula also to calculate the diagonal of a rectangle with corners on the origin and (x,y).

So it isn't limited to circles.

OOC: Let's not get worked up please. IMAGE(frown001.gif) Nazgul and MSW, you both have PMs. Firedrake, A) it's a rattEn, B) it was surrounded by other rats to shield it, large rats who the ratten will put in your way as you try to advance, C) a ratten must be pretty smart if it can mentally control thirty rats. I edited my earlier post to allow you an easy victory (10 rats left and the ratten near unconsciousness)

IC: Damn. Normal Fire spells were extremely ineffective against Undead, Eferas had found that out in a most painful manner many years ago. The fire would have to completely disintegrate the bones to be of any use, much like the battle with the rats earlier. He didn't want to drain himself with more major magic still outside the tower, besides he was sensing the battle there still going on, and to decide the outcome in the rebels' favor could well take their help.

One of his scrolls was against Undead luckily, he read the runes aloud, watched it turn into ash and pointed his hands and his staff at several Undead nearby. Silver light flew from his hands at them. Two of them collapsed, the others were injured but continued on.

That was the only one I had, blast it. Eferas was deciding whether to risk his health in a melee or just cowardly draw back to let the others deal with it, when he remembered another worthwile experience he had picked up long ago. All forms of unlife were highly vulnerable to healing spells, as well as blessing. That was what caused priests to be so effective against them.

Unfortunately, neither healing nor blessing was in Eferas' spell repertoire. He pulled out a healing potion instead, opened it and waited for the nearest skeletons to advance.

With a shout, he swung it at several skeletons, spraying them with the liquid. Giving off smoke, the liquid burned into the bones like acid, the skeletons giving painful gurgles all the time.

Eferas corked the flask, and flung it into a whole cluster of Undead. Exploding, the bottle sprayed its healing contents all around and hit several more skeletons, turning one of them into smoking piles of bones, and injuring three more. Wonderful, it actually does work!

"Heal or Bless them, it kills them!", Eferas shouted, pulling out another Healing potion. Must watch I don't waste all of those either.
