OOC: Posting the tallies so far. Firedrake - "A few". Six in total maybe? All dead, anyways. Eferas - Two dead, four severely injured and effectively out of the fight. One of them should survive for questioning. Eferas has cast a second spell, but the arrows all went wild because he was injured. Namothil - two, also, quite efficiently dead. Shadow Wolf - five dead. That makes nineteen. How many are there supposed to be? 25-30? Please, people, kill them sparingly, we want some other characters to have a go too. Milla and Nazgul didn't post anything yet. I'd say leave the rest up to them. Casualties so far: Eferas is unconscious, struck to the thigh and the arm, and both wounds are probably poisoned. He won't be joining the fight so quickly again. Luckily no one shoots at him now since he looks dead. Edit: Eve - 1 dead Total of twenty. I wasn't saying he was being Machiavellian. Only if there are worse pictures than this one, this one is hardly suitable to judge the rest. I get the idea. Omlette complained about several pictures, and Radiant posted the tamest one of them. (No offense to you, Radiant, I'd do the same; it's unconscious.) So what are the other pictures like? -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. I joined, but the forum seems a bit too spamful for my taste, so I don't visit often. Maybe that was just the misc board though. That misc board makes the spidweb one seem like a well-structured spamfree zone. Plus, I'm sure I'd make a terrible mod. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! The fire lances all struck home, thanks to the long, arduous training Eferas had forced on himself. He chuckled mentally. Those old know-it-all professors back at the academy might know the theory of how to cast these spells, but they would never be able to use them in the heat of battle, Eferas had realized that when he had trained himself how to practically use his fire spells in combat. Two assassins were struck in the face and killed instantly, another was taken to his knees as the bolt charred his legs. Three others were struck in the chest or belly, surviving but severely injured, their leather armor blocking some of the blast. Eferas again raised his staff to do another, as a crossbow bolt buried itself deeply in his right arm. I should have known they'd all aim for the casters, Eferas furiously cursed his carelessness as the wound sent a stabbing pain up his arm. Managing to raise the staff with his left hand, he shot six flaming arrows - a pain-distorted shout of "Efer'yil'alaia!" - requiring only little concentration. He did not see the result through the haze of his pain - dammit, why does this hurt so much? - and thought only of getting cover. Too late, he realized, as a thrown dagger took him straight in the thigh. He fell to the ground, and knew no more. (OOC: YAY LOL OMG LOLLZ!!11 I got my 1000th post!! . Ahem. Sorry, had to get that out.) [ Thursday, September 18, 2003 12:06: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- Visit The Santharian Dream and its RP board. Or the Encyclopaedia Ermariana! EDIT: OH NO! Shoulda posted a li'l quicker. Or at least put up a construction post. :rolleyes Okay. I'll change this. IC: Eferas was stumbling after the rest of the party as fast as he could with his hobbling gait, using his staff for balance. Soon, as he was almost out of breath, as Shadow Wolf suddenly called out for them to halt. "Assassins," he explained. "I can feel their silent approach from all directions." As if on cue, a dozen black-cloaked men jumped stealthily from the surrounding bushes, knives and crossbows in their hands. They struck swiftly and silently. One bolt had already grazed Eferas' shoulder, before he could do anything. "We're trapped!" Eferas shouted out the obvious, unnecessarily. Eferas spent a short moment deciding which spell to use, then settled on Fireblast, wonderfully apt to use with these scattered multiple targets. He raised his hands, his staff in the right, visualizing each of the six targets he could choose. Then he shouted out the words "Ereiá efér!" - flow fire - after the manner of the mages in his homeland. His hands fell down in a swift cutting gesture, his right transfroming the motion into a sweep of his arm, drawing the staff around him in a circle as the projectiles took flight... ((ooc: that's all I should post, probably. The rest of the battle is up to any of the adventurers. Note that Eferas is extremely vulnerable in close combat. Also, Arianne, Theobold and the spiders might join the fight at some point.)) OOC: SIS, are you going to play Aranea? I was a tad confused there. I can't await the moment Eferas stumbles upon some GIFTS or Araneas. He's a *real* bad arachnophobe. (Like me.) IC: Eferas looked curiously at the substance Namothil was spreading over his blade. "A weapon poison against reptile creatures?" he asked incredulously. He had learned a lot about alchemy and poisons at the academy as a part of his general training, but there were no dragons in the land where he lived - they had died out almost completely and faded to a mere legend. Meanwhile, Eferas sat down on the soft forest ground to make some preparations of his own. Opening his pack, he gets out a little pouch, and pours some yellowy powder on his hand. A nasty, almost rotten smell was in the air. Eferas rubbed his hands until they were completely coated in the sulfur, while the sweat of his hands did its work and caused the substance to stick closely to his skin. Eferas got to his feet, and closed the pouch loosely, but did not return it to the pack. Instead, he stuffed it in his belt, readily availably. With another movement, seeming almost uncommonly lithe for a man of his age, Eferas turned his stark red robe inside out; the other side was a dark brown, almost black, and easily overlooked in the jungle. "Can't be going around wearing fancy colors in the wilderness..." he mumbled to himself. Gripping his staff tightly, he turns face Kel-Aziz and Arkadia, ready to walk on. OOC: How about a small ambush now? It would be boring to have the first fight be the end boss Baltazar. There're not any breasts or other, well, offensive, stuff there as far as I can see. Besides the picture is rather pixxelated (that might be just an effect of the screenshot, dunno what the original quality is). I have seen worse even in games not marked PG or anything. Compared to what other people see when they picture a sorceress casting a spell, this is actually rather tame. OOC: Nice scene Nazgul. Just how big is this army, btw - it must be pretty big if you wouldn't allow us to fight it. We might have to fight some wild stuff in the jungle. Tigers maybe? I don't think they come in groups though, and a pack of animals would be best. Just suggest something, or write the scene. Oh, and since we're all in one group now, you have to watch even closer that you don't play the other chars too much. Zephyr, please scratch that escape. Demon golems are not gonna fall for a coupla lizard wings and black paint. I'd suggest you don't keep undoing everything MSW does in each of your post, especially if you describe it so illogically. It's just another way of power-gaming. Edit: Tommy, what a pity we didn't get to stay there. Would have been such a nice battle. *whines at Kel-Aziz, ehm, Nazgul, for dragging him away from the fighting* [ Thursday, September 18, 2003 06:58: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- Visit The Santharian Dream and its RP board. WTH??? C'mon, someone post! It's been 12 hours, for goodness sake! (Note that I will try to follow up Nazgul's earlier description of the scene back at the inn, but Milla still hasn't posted since then. If any of you disagree with what I might post now, just go ahead and correct it in your post; I'll change it.) OOC: Thanks Nazgul, you saved me with your IC!! I know just what I'll do now... IC: Eferas looked intently at the scene before him. The man had, as he could quickly see, not been decapitated with a blade, but with claws - the cut just didn't seem smooth enough. On the other hand, the head had been severed precisely, almost carefully, as if the murderer had wanted to keep it for something. He then looked at the suspect, the girl who had introduced herself at Eve, and immediately recognized her for what she was - his training at Ximax had been far more extensive than just fire spells. What stood before him there had to be some sort of a half-human, or shapechanger. He did not recognize the animal she would turn into, but she might possess long claws in the transformed state. He asked a nearby tavern customer where the corpse had been found, and following that, quickly went down to the tunnel. Striking a small fire from his fingers and holding it levitating above his hands, he could survey the tunnel slowly. He saw the bloodstain where the innkeeper had been killed, and quickly went over to examine more closely. What he found confirmed his theories. A small tuft of hair - animal hair - lay closeby; the innkeeper must have ripped it off the attacker in his struggle. He could not easily tell what animal it was from, but it was strong and bristly. He looked around further, and found a foot impression in the soft earthen ground - the cellar did not have a wooden floor. "Bingo." He thought to himself, as he immediately recognized the mark as that of a wolf. A bloody big wolf, and from the marks it left it seemed to have stood on two legs. Eferas climbed back up the trapdoor and toward the scene where the other tavern guests were still assembled, eager to tell them of his finds. (OOC: Nazgul, your post would follow this one logically with no problem, though you might put in that about the foot impression. ) [ Wednesday, September 17, 2003 12:10: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- Visit The Santharian Dream and its RP board. OOC: Someone will now need to find out and prove conclusively that Eve didn't murder Bob, to prevent her getting lynched. Anyone? Edit: On the other hand, this should best wait until after Milla has posted, I just saw that she hasn't since Nazgul described the scene. ------ Since I don't want to waste another post on this, Zephyr: Looks good now, but you'd need to work on grammar, it's almost incomprehensible. OOC: Lol, that kind of eavesdropping is exactly what Eferas would do in this situation. EDIT: Sorry, I took too long posting and didn't notice your edit, Nazgul. I won't remove this though, I prefer to decide the actions of my character. The cue line before this IC would be: IC: quote:Eferas felt slightly embarassed - not for having been eavesdropping, rather for being caught at it: His skill to walk silently had been famed back at the academy - all the more since keeping silent was otherwise definitely not a skill Eferas possessed - but old age had made him rather clumsy. He raised his eyebrows, blinked owlishly several times, and tried to put on an innocent expression, as though he had just been merrily walking along past the corner for a morning stride. It looked unconvincing to say the least. When Eferas noticed that it was useless to pretend anyway, he walked up to the one he now knew to be named Kel-Aziz. "I'd be glad to join you in fighting Baltazar; that was what I came to this blasted island in the first place, after all. Name's Eferas Cirthain, I'm a fire mage. Pay is unnecessary," - his pouch jingled ominously - "...I'm in this for the adventure. Though of course I'd like a share of the loot, if there be any." He paused. Then he gripped his staff tightly, straightened up for a moment as if ready to walk at once, and spoke again. "I might be too frail to hold a sword, but I can pull my weight in any combat with my spells. Where and when are we supposed to meet, anyway?" That's a scary thought. Am I sure I want to have the software of the mastermind behind Microsoft on my PC? It's completely illogical of course. After all Jeff uses a M.A.C. OOC: Back at the inn setting, atm we've got Kel-Aziz (Nazgul), Eve (Milla), Firedrake, Namothil and Eferas (me), are those all? Firedrake and Namothil are upstairs, Eve is in the tunnel under the stables with the dead innkeep, Kel-Aziz is heading back to the inn (small temporal problem there, the time is much too short, so by now he would have to be back inside the inn. Is it okay if I assume that, Nazgul?) Btw, I've got a lot of time to wrap up here. My char is still in his room, but was about to get up, so I need to set back time for a bit. I want him to be down at the inn approximately when Kel-Aziz comes back from the stable, so Eferas is going to wander through the city for ca. 2 hours. IC: (6:15 AM) Eferas slowly got up, finding it senseless to go back to sleep now. He dressed himself, picked up his staff and decided to go about the city to look for a magical supplies seller. He found none at first, but he found a small shop that sold healing potions. The trader had widened his eyes when Eferas asked him about energy potions and magical crystals. "My goodness! Don't you know our wise and benevolent king Baltazar has outlawed the sale of any magical supplies apart from those for healing purposes?" He stretched the 'wise and benevolent' just in the right way for Eferas to feel that he could take a chance here. He reached inside his pouch and took out fifty gold pieces - a hefty lot. "That is a pity. Do you know of any ruthless criminals that might disobey this order?" As the alchemist saw the gold, a sly glint entered his eyes. "I might." Eferas handed him the gold, and the alchemist opened a little cupboard hidden behind a wall painting, and rummaged inside it... Eferas left the shop with a few energy potions, five piercing crystals, and two scrying crystals (ooc: Orbs of Sight), and with a pouch that was considerably lighter. He returned to the inn roundabout at a quarter past eight, as far as he could tell by the sun. He was about to go back up to his room to get the rest of his belongings, when the tavern door opened once more. The man he had briefly talked to yesterday (ooc: Kel-Aziz, who else), was standing in the doorway. OOC: Nazgul, I'll leave it up to you whether you're gonna try and hire me for the rebellion, but if you do so it would make it much easier, otherwise I would have to search for some other way to get involved. -------------------- Visit The Santharian Dream and its RP board. OOC: Just as a question, Zephyr. How does your character, on the evil side, end up with a message from the rebellion? Ah well. Anyway. I'd better do another ic, the new day is probably going to bring a lot more action and this is my last post for the next 16 hours or so. T'would be too much bother to wrap up all that stuff in the next IC. IC: Eferas yawned, and slowly blinked. He was an early riser, but last night he had stayed in the tavern until pretty close to midnight, and he was also feeling a bit sluggish with only the tiniest traces of a hangover from the drinks he had had. He woke early, and as far as he could see the sun had not yet risen, but he found it rather difficult to get up. Eferas blinked again, this time a bit more energetically. He tried to persuade himself to rise, but failed. He lay still for a few more seconds, and then rose with a gasp as a rather loud splintering crash resounded through the building. OOC: Nazgul, I don't remember Milla saying anything about allegiance. I might be wrong though. btw: I'll usually be able to be on here from 7:00 AM to 14:00 PM board time (thats 17:00 - 0:00 for me); but I might not always be. Just don't expect any post from me in this rp that lies outside these times. IC: Eferas' facial expression hardened slightly as he heard the other one call him 'old one'. He did not comment, however. Instead he adressed the man once more. "Good night, Mister---" he broke off expectantly, hoping to at least learn his name before leaving. Not receiving any other reply but a vague "Good night", Eferas shrugged, picked up the key the innkeep had pushed across the bar, and headed towards his own room haltingly. Once in, he sat on the bed, opened his small sack he had worn on his back, and checked his magical supplies once more - a small pouch of sulfur dust to enhance fire spells. A tiny ruby. Several scrolls for minor, simple cantrips that went beyond his specialized capacity as a fire mage. A small flask filled with an energizing potion. Several crystals used for breaking magical barriers. His supplies were not dangerously meagre, but lower than he would have liked them. He was completely out of scrying orbs and the slowing wands that had always proved so useful in combat. He decided to look for a shop that sold magical equipment in the morning, hoping that the tyrant had not gone so far as prohibiting the sale of such items, which was, after all, a possibility. With that thought, he lay down and went to an uneasy, but deep slumber. It was a joke. Or so I hope. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. OOC: It seems like we should decide now when the new day's going to start - it's night already, and most of our characters won't meet until morning. Milla, I think you're the third - no fourth, with Namothil - in the inn, so I'd suggest you get a room for the night soon, that goes for Namothil too (unless he did drop this, he said he might). Then we could call this a day. I'll be putting off my next IC until Kel-Aziz (Nazgul that is) answers the question Eferas asked him, atm they're both still standing there in front of the bar. Oh yeah, WM, where does this wyvern come from, is it wild, or is it controlled by Baltazar? Edit: Then I'll just ask FD the same question. OOC: I'm not sure if Baltazar needs an archmage, since he's one himself, and he probably doesn't trust any power threatening to equal his own... Dunno though, you might be the most powerful of his mages. IC: Eferas had sat down at a table in a shadowy corner (OOC: you know, one of those any inn in an rp has several dozens of ), but had got up as he saw another newcomer entering the inn. His clothes, quite unlike the garb of the local sailors, gave him away immediately. He was causing quite a commotion, because he was dragging another person with him, and was arguing with him loudly. "HAHAHA!! Yar just hilarious when your drunk Bergund!! HAHAHA!" The two looked for all the world like a pair of old sailor buddies, one of them sodden in drink to the hairtips; were it not for two things immediately picked up by Eferas' attentive eyesight: First, the un-sailor-like garments of the one, second, the fact that he was completely covering his struggling companion in a cloak as if to hide him. Just then, the other person broke free, and Eferas gasped. The creature revealed now appeared to be lizardlike, and had scaly wings. Oh my, whoever this is must be pretty darn dumb to reveal himself like that. Unless he has powers far beyond any I've ever seen, this could get a pretty big brawl... Suddenly, the lizard-like creature spread its wings and sped through the roof, and was gone for the time being. After some time and a few drinks, when it was growing dark, Eferas saw the other man approaching and talking to the innkeeper, then after a while he saw the innkeeper whispering something - his voice was inaudible, but Eferas still noted the movement of his lips. The guards at the inn had closely followed the exchange, but had obviously not seen the whisper - otherwise they would have intervened, Eferas was sure. Trying not to draw too much attention, Eferas got up from his table and walked slowly towards the other. Eferas "Greetings. I see that you must be new to this city as well. Would you care to tell me what you have come here for?" Not waiting for an answer, Eferas turned to the innkeeper, and addressed him. He rented a room, and counted out the 30 gold coins from a heavy-looking bag - he was obviously richer than his garb would show at first glance. Every time he took out a coin, he seemed to flinch slightly, as if he disliked the touch - but it might also have just been miserliness. He then turned back to the other newcomer, and waited for an answer. -------------------- Visit The Santharian Dream and its RP board. Or the Encyclopaedia Ermariana! Got a brain? Go to Polaris!
