I write some stories and/or fanfiction, and I take part in something called a World Development project, where we compile a compendium about a fantasy world that we invented. I also have just started online RP-ing. If that's not a form of creativity or art, I don't know what is. ;) I tried to become a BoE scenario designer once, but it doesn't seem to work for me; any ideas I have tend to grow into enormity and then stay unrealized. And I am about to start painting my first Warhammer 40k models I have just acquired. I didn't know that anyone else here was playing it. :D -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! Oh, by the way, where do you host your site? Geocities? Because I could never get google to list my geocities page even months after I'd submitted the URL. By not following the plot exactly (Alec I think you mentioned that), do you mean the new emperor does not necessarily have to rise to the throne in 230 IE as the 25 year Pralgradian Civil War ends, and it's not Ironclad II.? I'll be thinking up a character tomorrow (Thursday), after my last examination. To even things, I'll be joining either the Kylens or Solarans, yet to decide. Expect another mage-type guy, or a crossbow- or bowman. :) Oh, and I might even try to play a female char this time. No promises though. -------------------- Nasty trickster stalking the web! 406 victims! I completely understand; I'm just in the middle of high school finals. I guess this could be resurrected in a week or two. I just noticed; the news certainly was more shortlived than I would've anticipated. At least the icq server has taken the message off its welcome screen again and replaced it with the Return of the King ad. See, the people are so apathetic to Saddam's capture that it can't even hold out more than two days against a *movie announcement* in some news systems! :D -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! They certainly do. It's at least as good if not better than my first efforts 2-3 years ago; and I would certainly hope that I improved since then: I realize now that you - Slith - and your friend are about 2-3 years younger than me so it's only to be expected. So it really wouldn't do for me to sneer at it or anything; and my earlier post was certainly not intended that way, I hasten to add. It was just too nice an opportunity to show off my Middle English to pass by. Discouragement is not appropriate at all here, nor was it intended. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Pity. No Middle English at all. Well, it's better than half-mangled Middle English I guess... but thou art mistaken, friend, if thou dost consider this tale brilliant; for t'is good, mayhaps, but not outstanding, and certainly not original (I do remember about 10 Mickey Mouse cartoons that did run the same way). OOC (not that I even have a character in this RP): Just to be generally annoying and maybe marginally helpful - I advise you to use a text editor to make your IC posts, esp. if they're long. I myself have a keylogger installed that instantly logs all I type. Meaning no matter how many times I delete the text by accident, what I typed is in the logfile. It's useful. :) [ Monday, December 15, 2003 14:45: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. I see your point though. There's hardly any religion that doesn't say "Don't Kill", but see how many people do it just for the sake of their religion. Most people have been banned from these boards for persistently posting spam and/or violating the CoC, I guess. A spampost a day will get you canned eventually, but you only get banned if you do it a lot or you post offensive stuff or pictures. As for who is banned currently; I have no clue. OOC: Oh, to hell. I'll do another in character. IC: Roy was getting tired from standing around and waiting for the generals to finish their discussion. Besides, there was still a light drizzle in the air ((ooc: wasn't it raining some posts ago?)), and he was getting cold. He decided to reenter the bar for a while and maybe have another drink. Inside the bar, Roy was almost immediately addressed by a man about his age, dressed in an archer's garb. ((ooc: TM, you didn't yet approve the character, so if you decide you don't want him, just say so and I'll take this bit out)) "Greetings. Are you one of them military types?" Roy fumbled for a moment, then realized that the other one was asking about recruiters. As he had been routinely trying to enter the guy's mind to figure out what he meant, and had totally failed, he also noticed something else: His psi abilities were blunted to the point almost paralyzed. Foolishness, to drink that much at such a critical time! "A recruitment officer? No, they're outside. If you're looking to hire yourself out as a mercenary, you should probably go there; they finished in this place a while ago. Then again, you might want to stay in here for a while; they're in a bit of a tactical fix out there and unless you know something about strategy, you'll only be bored to death till they're finished." With those words, he sat down at his table, and decided not to have another drink, in order not to further numb his sixth sense. He'd need it later on, and the sooner it was restored, the better. OOC: This RP is threatening to come to a grinding halt if no one else posts. I'm tired of having any RP I join fail through inactivity (like the Greywraith clan one). Someone advance the plot. ;) -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Trial? That's an illusion if you ask me. See how long it takes him to commit 'suicide' in custody, or they get careless and some infuriated civilians assassinate him. They'll be arguing about what to do with him of course, but I think he'll be killed by the time they've reached any decision. Only speculations of course. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Well, yes, but OUR religion is the right one! :P It doesn't matter what people believe in; whatever you happen to choose is always correct of course. And, naturally, everyone else is an infidel and should be burned. :D Ah yes, and Pagan I guess means any religion that does not have a large number of followers (defining a large number as on the scale of Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Christianity etc.). So you can call yourself a pagan, but you'd never call yourself an infidel. OOC: Not afaik, no. To make the entrance easier, you could just start in the bar and run out to see what's going on outside and maybe get yourself recruited. :) But you shall still have to post your character description first and get it approved by TM. ;) IC: Roy guessed that, though he had already explained to the recruiter what he could do, he should better add more specific information about his range of abilities. Enough people had already overestimated the power of Psi wielders, and he did not want to be faced with instructions running approximately "Advance in front of the main army and, using telekinesis, blow the enemy's soldiers out of the way", or "At the appropriate signal, manipulate the entire opposing army's minds and persuade them to fall back." He went back towards the general who had recruited him. "It looks like you should get a better picture of the limits of my ability now. My main strength lies in far-range scrying of other minds; I can recognize enemy soldiers within a radius of around 2 miles, and accurately read their intentions and thoughts at a distance of five hundred meters. "I have a minor skill at telekinesis, but it is too weak to be of much use, since I can hardly move anything mentally that I could not lift with my hands ((ooc: since he's not exactly burly, that should not exceed 15 kilograms)). I can, however, deflect projectiles, though it is straining. "Finally, crowd manipulation is entirely beyond my power. I can 'persuade' individual minds to an extent, but it is nearly impossible for me to influence more than five people at once." That said, Roy turned around and started back to the bar entrance where he had stood before, satisfied he had just in time prevented the recruitment officer from exaggerating his abilities to near-omnipotence. The recruitment officer's face took on a sourly disappointed expression, as he seemed to think along the same lines. OOC: Time to get out of that bar. IC: Roy had followed the commotion unravelling before him with some interest. As the general was summoned to the king, the others continued to interview the new recruits. They were so ordinary that they hardly fitted in the odd group that had just been put together; just a few swordfighters and one marksman. Within about half an hour where Roy impatiently awaited the return of the general, suddenly noise erupted from outside the bar. Stepping outside, Roy heard the woman now introducing herself as Lena Xao proclaim the deal she had forged with King Trayen. I told you she'd rule the city before sundown, didn't I?. He had hardly finished his thought when the general also arrived back at the scene, shouting and waving around the king's head. Roy recognized all the signs of civil war erupting around him. And just when they were getting attacked. I guess we're in a ****load of trouble now, was all he could think, before Prccati went ahead and suggested a truce. Perceptive of him. The talk was bound to turn to military strategy now, and Roy wasn't much of a strategist. Best to leave this to the military types. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! IC: Roy could do nothing but stare as he followed the discussion with increasing amazement. When he had been trained, he had learned that some wielders of mental power had developed a persuasion skill to an extreme level — he himself had not; he was not a people person, and a strong personality had a lot to do with it. If he had not been able to sense that there was no Psi power employed at all, he could have sworn that this was magic. This woman had just stepped in here and told these soldiers how to fight wars — and she had convinced one of the three within a matter of ten minutes. A born leader seemingly. They should watch out for that one. If they're not careful, she might rule the city by tomorrow. he was thinking as several more would-be mercenaries approached the recruiters. OOC: If anyone still wants to join, they can be one of those people approaching now. Otherwise, they'll just be some nameless NPCs who're gonna get killed at the next opportunity, nothing special. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! It probably depends on how absolute and secured your power is. If you've got a reelection to win, you'll be a lot more accomodating as a ruler than if you have a superpower that allows you to obliterate anyone who disagrees. I'm pretty clear on why I said second language by the way. People have a tendency to get pissed at you if you forbid them to learn their own tongue as first language. Look at the Roman Empire. Also, the lingua franca that will dominate is Esperanto, of course. What else? The thing goes like this: Someone does something annoying, like spamming, flaming, obnoxious behavior and stuff. Eventually, the Spidweb members go on a witch hunt to publicly stone the offender. Once the flames start going, everyone realizes that what they're doing is useless and against the CoC, everyone feels pretty stupid for a while and things calm down. And then the next annoying guy arrives and the same thing happens over. [ Tuesday, December 09, 2003 14:05: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! OOC: Nazgul, people might start to think it goes against your religion to write Out of Character. :P Believe me when I say that I've been to places where they play *really good* (and I mean good) RPs — although only as a watcher so far &mdash and they do lots of OOCs too. Enough, I need to get my character recruited. IC: Roy had never believed there was such a gift as foresight, and being familiar with most aspects of mindcraft, his opinion on that had some foundation at least. That was why he had no real explanation for the fact that this scene looked almost prearranged in its perfect smoothness. Here he was, contemplating on getting a new contract, just instants before the militia recruiter entered the small tavern. Next to the uniformed man, a woman wrapped in a shabby cloak entered the room and attracted a lot of stares from the almost exclusively male clientele of the bar. After a brief discussion between the two, the recruiter continued on into the bar to look for more people willing to enter the militia. It was most definitely Roy's decision — he looked so unathletic and soft that the recruiter would never address him directly. So Roy considered — he was experienced in evaluating the risks of a job just from the behavior of the employer. The recruiter looked unhurried, calm, and none too desparate, but that might be deceiving. Nonetheless Roy needed the money. And so he rose, straightened his robe with a dignified, wizardly gesture and walked slowly over to the occicial. "I presume that you need more soldiers in this militia of yours." he stated quietly when he had reached the recruiter. "You don't look like the sort that can fight. Have you ever wrestled a chicken?" The guard demanded with a sneer. "I have no need of muscle to fight. I have other talents." Roy did not react to the insult even with his face. He needed to control himself right now. "You one of them crazy weirdos, huh? Well let's see what you can do." The tone showed exactly what he thought of Psi power. Roy sighed. A sceptic. He sought for a way to show his ability, and settled for telekinesis. Not his strength, but it'd have to do. "Watch this." One day I'm gonna say Behold instead, I so swear it. Roy raised his left hand palm upward - totally unnecessarily of course - and turned to face the table next to him. Soundlessly, a knife was lifted up from the table, swished through the air a few times, and then sped forward. Missing the recruiter by inches, it buried itself deeply into the wooden wall. The official, still somewhat unnerved by this display of unnatural capability, licked his dry lips and found his voice again. "Well I guess you're on. Wait for me back there at the entrance."
