The Club of All. A satellite board of this one. Along with the Bladester by Zephyr, the two were probably records for being founded by the youngest members here. AFAIK, the Bladester became inactive some time later, but the Club continued. OOC: Eferas does fire, not rocks. Sorry, but that's a fairly important difference, because he can usually only use his magic to do severe harm (it's tricky to knock somebody out with a fireball without turning them into cinders). Eferas took a little time to catch his breath while he leaned on the staff he had just swung. Purely physical effort he was unused to; he preferred using his magic. But in this case he had hesitated: The one who had just burst out of the trees was a human, and might not be evil, so it was always better to be on the safe side. Fire magic was convenient, but had the disadvantage of being rather permanent in its effects. No need to scorch someone to cinders without knowing who he was. "Where in hell did he come from?" Eferas wondered aloud, as the others recovered from their surprise. "It's not the corpsman," Garath pointed out. "He'd be wearing a uniform. Besides, you wouldn't have been able to strike him down like that - he would've killed more than one of us before we knew what was going on." Oskoth went over to the unconscious man. "Must have been running for some time. My guess he was frightened near dead by something he saw in the woods. Demons, most likely, he shouldn't be able to see the corpsman." "That doesn't necessarily make him our friend. Do you think we should wake him without binding him first?" Radic asked. "He doesn't look particularly dangerous, but just so I think we should get him to the bunker first. I'll feel more safe with more of our people around us. Besides, whatever he ran from stands a good chance of being on the way here, and I don't want to meet it no more than he did." With that, Eferas cast one more magic-enhanced look around him - his fire magic and limited knowledge of demonology allowed him a rudimentary sense of demonic presence - but he felt nothing. Zilch. "Ah, Garath?" Garath looked at him. His face was so neutral as to be almost expressionless. "Would you mind?" Eferas waved his hand impatiently. "I'm trying to do some, ah, sleight-of-hand trickery now, so if you would be so kind to look in another direction for a moment?" A juvenile pissing match? With Alec? For some reason, the thought disturbs me.  I merely pointed out my opinion on what I have seen on my few brief visits to certain boards. I also added a note concerning the local time and the likely amount of bias involved on my part. And no, I'm not determinedly picking fights with oldbies, or "the community's more respected persons" (do you belong to that group by election, incidentally?) . I respect their experience with this community, their knowledge of its history etc., what they have done for it in the past (and are still doing), and their high standing in its hierarchy. That's not the same as kissing parts of their anatomy. I've been here over a year too, so stop stomping me as a noob simply because I don't like Desperance. The thing with googlefight, in case you hadn't noticed, was not in any way serious. The website was made as a joke, its link got posted here as a joke, and I posted an example as a joke. I frown upon the advertising of several of the above sites on a topic that is dedicated to *any* form of entertainment at all. On second thought, the RGF forums don't look that bad, apart from the fact that at first glance it seems dedicated to anime and computer games more than to real roleplaying (unless I am mistaken), and that the quality of the rps I have read through is about on par with that of below-average Spiderweb roleplays. (Taking into account that there are about 3-4 members who post like Zephyr did a long time ago.) I don't mean to diss the board, but I disagree with your designating it a "RP Paridise". That's all. And Desperance is a thing by itself. I won't join that, because I think it's mostly tasteless profanity and spam, but at least it manages to be tastelessly profane with style. That's more than can be said about many boards. Polaris is also a thing by itself, and in relation to Desperance, while dementing any rumors that either claims to be the other's "antipode", some members of each do have the tendency to be violently opposed to some members of the other. Let's leave it at that. Polaris is overrated in a few ways, but underrated in many others. Everything above is the product of a tired mind at 2 AM local time. 30 seconds? At that rate, I'm sure the scenario would have been finished by now. Yes, old members are returning. New members are arriving as well, and most of those leave after their first 5 posts. In a year or two, some of them will return and be hailed as oldbies. Others will stay away, to be replaced by the newbies who don't leave. This time it was Rey who was yanked back, and it was Eferas doing the pulling. "You don't run through traps. First rule of adventuring." Then he took the time to feel the fire with his mind, highly attuned to the magic it contained. "You're right, in part. This is not an ordinary fire. First of all, it uses no fuel, but magic to run. Secondly, it is remarkable in that it conserves energy by not providing any heat as long as no one is near it. Though why someone would go to that trouble..." He was silent again, and his face suddenly lit up. "I think we're not approaching the problem correctly. Whatever it is made of, it's still a maze. And you cross mazes by finding the right path, not by trying to bash through the walls. As a matter of fact," he rummaged in his pouch a little, "I'm still carrying two of these little devices here, specifically for situations like this one." He found what he was looking for, and pulled out a slightly flawed blue gem. "A sapphire. Used for close-range scrying." "Get to the point, will you?" Raymond was getting impatient. Understandable too. Not a time for many words; Eferas felt he really should get out of that particular habit. "I am." He closed his eyes for a moment, and there was a blue flash as the crystal evaporated. Eferas brought out a sheet of parchment, and quickly scrawled down a sketch of what he had seen. "Good thing that Garath person is not around; it would have been quite hard to rationalize this spell for him..." He handed the parchment to Raymond. Running behind Rey, he and Law managed to cross the bridge just in time before the pillars sank into the waves again, the surface of the water looking for all the world as if it was not concealing anything.
