http://web.archive.org/web/20000229034134/http://www.spidweb.com/index.html -- Jeff tries to encourage people to use a longer domain..?

http://web.archive.org/web/20010302022232/http://www.spidweb.com/ -- Still no forum.

http://web.archive.org/web/20010402031314/http://spidweb.com/ -- Yaaay! The forums are here! Old Ikonboard nostalgia!

http://web.archive.org/web/20020205081150/www.ironycentral.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi -- Spidweb switched to UBB. Somewhat ugly though.

http://web.archive.org/web/20020523233131/http://spidweb.com/ -- The new design! And Jeff decided 'forums' was the better term. IMAGE(tongue00.gif)

http://web.archive.org/web/20021004065719/www.ironycentral.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi -- The forum starts to look a bit better.

http://web.archive.org/web/20021209052808/www.ironycentral.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi -- Jeff is poked at to get working on BoA.

http://web.archive.org/web/20030206212652/www.ironycentral.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi -- The forums look a lot nicer now.

http://web.archive.org/web/20030519052001/http://www.spidweb.com/index.html -- The list is hacked.

http://web.archive.org/web/20030602204817/www.ironycentral.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi -- And the forums on the same day.

I believe the domain change was a reaction to www.spidweb.com being briefly taken by squatters.

Wow. Blarney. What a newbie I was back then in the old Ikonboard days...Still, ya gotta love 'em. But it is rather nice being Member #32 somewhere.

Oh, and just thought I'd mention that I'm currently in Montana, avoiding the cicada plague of the Midwest.

Edit #2: Crap. It's member #34,isn't it?

EDIT by Imban : Huge sig. Lose it.

Ahh yes, when the list was hacked...ugh. I received about 60 emails that day, most with the words "unsubscribe" in them.

Are avatars even possible? They would definitely assist in jazzing things up a bit around here. I mean, now, it's just all kind-of...gray.

Not to say we don't appreciate you, Drakey, of course!

EDIT by Imban : Signature removed. Lose the huge sig, man.

they had avatars until *some* people started killing the load speed with gigantic avatars that took up half the page on 1024x768 resolution.

Any decent forum has suitable image size controls.

Also, Ikonboard and the Third Design are when I just came to spidweb (first I remember). About a week later they switched to UBB.

I miss avatars, and I loathe SW for taking them down for 'space reasons'. I mean, an img src only takes up a few bytes.

It wasn't the problem with that, it was the problem with people hosting it on their computers with a 28.8k modem so the images couldn't load fast or at all sometimes. Then some browsers were (and still are) picky and refused to load the page until the avatar loaded.

Would be nice to see them, with the option of the viewer turning them off if they wanted to

You can always turn off image loading in your browser. I see Spiderweb's point, although I think simply limiting the size of avatars to something reasonable would have worked well in most cases. Paterick's dragon avatar, anyone?

?Alorael, who also wanted to make his publically displayed name into ASCII art. Alas, he was not permitted enough characters to make anything entertaining.

lost_king's avatar was much worse than his.

WOW! I can see my long lost RP in the misc forum... Ahhh memory lane, I sucked at Rping then and i suck now...

On the avatar note... I agree avatars give you that nice "I am ME" feeling, and i thinh the huge banners in the sig's were more of an issue.

Couldn't we just use a list of acceptable avatars, like there was on the original board?

(Sorry about the signature. Different monitor resolutions or something)

(Though you have to admit, that was quite a word)

A set of acceptable avatars would have to be hosted onsite and would chew up bandwidth. So no.
