The postage took a noticable dip. I didn't specifically notice since I haven't been here too often myself, but all the threads seem to have moved a bit slower.

On that note, where's Kelandon?

If you and Kel were gone, then I can understand why the post rate seems to have halved. :P

By allowing it, they are definitely going to turn off people offended by it. By prohibiting it, they are possibly going to turn off people doing it.

While I agree with your point of view, it is greatly appreciated that the less time you spend writing your post, the more time you spend reading the rest of the thread. The less you can add to the discussion, the more likely it is that everything you do add has been said before. :)

Eldibs, what is your so-called free speech worth when you use it solely to offend others for your personal amusement? Aside from what Ados said, there really is no moral high ground.

Thralni, in case the ads are ever a problem, or you need PHP or something, I've considered setting aside some part of ermarian.net for hosting BoX-related sites (the addresses would be something like sites.ermarian.net/yourname).

If there is more interest in that idea, I might follow through with it, although things seem to work pretty well the way they have been for the past couple of years.

Map for Avernum 3 in The Avernum Trilogy

There aren't many maps on the encyclopedia site, and those that are are usually unrelated to the games - Vantanas and Pralgrad's geography is completely non-canon.

But having some maps for specific game areas would be fine, as long as there aren't any walkthrough-related labels on them. :) I haven't seen Rache's maps, by the way. I'll check them out this evening.

Yet another shocking discovery in Richard White Games

The White Cult may have ties to another, altogether less coherent sect.

quote:
L. Ron Hubbard:

The head of the Galactic Federation (76 planets around larger stars visible from here) (founded 5,000,000 years ago, very space opera) solved overpopulation (250 billion or so per planet, 178 billion on average) by mass implanting.

...

When through with his crime loyal officers (to the people) captured him after six years of battle and put him in an electronic mountain trap where he still is. "They" are gone. The place (Confederation) has since been a desert. The length and brutality of it all was such that this Confederation never recovered. The implant is calculated to kill (by pneumonia etc) anyone who attempts to solve it. This liability has been dispensed with by my tech development.

...

One can freewheel through the implant and die unless it is approached as precisely outlined. The "freewheel" (auto-running on and on) lasts too long, denies sleep etc and one dies. So be careful to do only Incidents I and II as given and not plow around and fail to complete one thetan at a time.[/QB]
I mean, wow. And there we thought we were original...

Aran: i don't think I really understand what you said. Do you mean I should make a seperate wiki?

To all of you: What do you guys prefer: I pop-up which one can just click away, or just leave open, but hide behind the main browser winow, or have ads at the top or bottom of the page?

No, it's just that you are writing about Nephilim, then give the encyclopedia as a reference, but you don't link to the Nephilim article, you link to the main page.

Anyone clicking the link first needs to navigate through the encyclopedia to find the Nephilim article; you could save them time by linking directly to the Nephilim article in the way I described above. :)

Fair enough... I think the sarcasm was rather evident in it, personally.

Everyone's hands = wrong hands? Sounds about right to me... what's the current ratio of people who use these things for good to people who use them for evil/extortion/etc?

Unfortunately, I've spent far too much time on forums where some people *do* think like that, without sarcasm, in all seriousness, and not just in the first impulse. "Big guns = awesome."

Unsurprisingly, these are the same who also argue against gun control.

One note, Thralni: One advantage of a wiki is that you can easile link directly to an article instead of the main page. So when you link to the encyclopedia from your Nephil entry, you could just as well link to http://encyclopedia.ermarian.net/index.php/Nephilim instead of http://encyclopedia.ermarian.net/index.php/Main_Page . Just substitute Main_Page with the article title, replacing underlines with spaces.

No bump, though, and I tend to rely on the "last post" feature to see if a thread has been updated. It took about a week for me to notice a new IC post in Mountain of Shadows that had been edited into the last post.

Optimism is fine, but then again large amounts of power have that way of turning all hands that hold them into the wrong ones. Or in other words, most countries either interested or potentially able to build such weapons shouldn't really be trusted with them - Iran, the US, Russia, China, Israel...

Depressingly, most people do not realize this because they are too busy saying things like

Either you now use a different browser, or Angelfire changed its ad policy. Geocities did the same about a year ago, which is why eventually I moved. There is only so much advertisement you can put on a site before the content suffers, and ezboard and geocities are far across that line now.
