Identical: Wait, weight
Identical: Wine, whine
My accent has been called a mixture of British and Chinese before, as I remember. Nobody ever thought it sounded German (although it's very audible when I'm under stress, because then I forget to soften the ending consonants.)

Edit: This brings General to 14741 posts. Yay for symmetry...

To be honest, any page can be made disastrous with blink tags and scrolling texts.

But as for UBB code, I really miss an underlined and a strike-through format.

It is odd how all of the UBB glitches can be explained once you realize it uses flat text files instead of a relational database. This is another one of them...

One would think such attention would be getting tiring after such a long time.

Lacking actual complaints (Slarty?), it doesn't seem to be offensive enough to merit censoring, and the thread does not deserve killing either.

As opposed to now, you mean?

I didn't entirely understand the point of Drakefyre's self-banning, beyond being a more stylish end than the ur-noob dining on his corpse...

Well, Saunders was referring to duplicating the "Edited by" line by writing it into the post itself. That doesn't work - you notice the difference in size.

--

Mh... "Manetheren" - is that a Wheel of Time reference, or from Song of Ice and Fire? I tend towards the former, but I always get things mixed up. :P

could you be a bit more specific? for example: are these so called "people" to be found on these boards?

These boards practice a form of democracy known as "one man, one vote".

Drakefyre is the man. He has the vote.

Stareye is also the man, but Stareye does not vote. Stareye decrees.

UBB uses the <small> tag to mark an edit. There's no way to duplicate it, it appears.

Although I've had some strange moments where, when I repeatedly edited a post, the "Edited by: " message got included in the text box.

What is the use of getting somewhere you were never meant to go? Of course, an explorer's spirit can get you far in real life, but did you think you could somehow slip through the cracks of Jeff's plot design and enter a part of his game he never made? :P

Could a moderator go Rampant and start doing that all over, without leaving incriminating evidence? We could have a witch hunt among the moderators, trying to find who's taking over the minds of the helpless newbs. You'd be the obvious suspect, though, so if the other mods want an elaborate hazing ritual..

It would seem that ordinary members could do this, but the name refuses to change nicely...maybe I'm not patient enough.

I assume that mod actions and IPs are logged somewhere. For all our sakes.

Also, the name changes according to the ways of UBB. Nuff said.

You know, Aran, as a mod you don't just have to quote and append FYT. You can actually fix typos! If only there were a way to conceal that pesky "Edited by..." line.

—Alorael, who remembers back in the misty heydey of Misc. he created a thread that began with a warning that all posts within the thread were subject to indiscriminate summary alteration. And then he altered summarily and indiscriminately. Those were the days! Posts were real posts back then.

Alo, you do know you can change your displayed name before and after the edit, and the edited by line doesn't get updated... :phear:

Anyway, I might yet take more daring and controversial actions, but I don't want to edit summarily and indiscrimately on my second day on the job. First impressions and all. :P

Edit: Fear the stealth edit! -Aran (this is really me, yeah).

Nor am I.

—Arancaytar, who in lieu of Alorael (who is apparently dead) will mention that permabans are no harder to lift than temporary bans. Artistic licence might apply, but still.

The explanation is farless spectacular unfortunately. See, when a topic is deleted, the UBB sometimes gets a hiccup.

The reason this didn't happen so much before is that questionable topics were locked and stripped of bad content, not deleted.

This way saves diskspace, but on the other hand I fear the next PPP will be riddled with moth holes.

The first thing Spiderweb teaches new members is how to have 3-4 conversations at the same time, in the same thread. :)

On that note, I'm very eager to see how your website plans will turn out, Meeshka.
