First, the obligatory: - Blades of Exile - Blades of Avernum You haven't really lived before playing these. As for the rest: I enjoyed the first three Avernum games very much, and Avernum II and Avernum III are my favorites. The original Exile games (which have the same setting and plot but an older engine) are also very good, but possibly only for those who like old games with simply graphics. Personally, I liked Exile III and II, but the I couldn't get used to the somewhat rough interface of Exile I. Opinions are divided on Avernum 4. Personally I didn't like it a lot, but I've seen many people who do. It basically takes the graphics and interface to a new level, which many hard-core Exile fans aren't happy with. If Geneforge wasn't "retro" enough for you, you'll probably think that about A4 too (but what do I know, a lot of people like smooth graphics). Geneforge is based on an interesting premise, but I think the series doesn't progress much. GF1 was good, GF2 was nice but not as new, and by GF3 I felt like I was playing the same game again with somewhat different characters. Actually, there was. I was going to rewrite it because it showed errors on some occasions, which would then be indexed by Google with my last name. I didn't fix it yet because I had no time, but it's public again. I'm already a bit late (I meant to post in the morning, or at midnight board time), which is because I completely forgot it was the seventeenth already. Time passes so fast. Well, they're finished - the forum statistics for this month, that is. No other things of interest to say, so we'll plunge straight into the numbers. :) All info is still available on endeavor.ermarian.net, which also has various cool features like rankings, member lookup tables, a search engine, and a list of changed names and titles. If there's a new feature you'd like to see, you're welcome to request it. ----------------- I. Joining Rate We have 66 new members, of which 32 have posted. Easily the lowest ever. Top Ten This is what the topic title refers to. In over a year, this is the first time I've managed to stay of the top ten! Okay, so I'm place 11, but it's a start. Perhaps I can actually manage to get a life next month. Slarty wins (or loses, depends on perspective). Slarty, Dikiyoba, Kelandon and Magma have gained since last month, while Thuryl, Alorael and I have fallen. Infernal has posted so little she is now on place 20, and TM has also dropped off the radar. Here is the full ranking. --- That would be all. Edit: I was an idiot when gathering the statistics. There has been a correction allowing for members 7189-7221 to be added retroactively. Some inaccuracies in post count since these 30 members have had an additional 20 days in which to post, but it's less patently inaccurate now than before. OOC: Pure, undiluted awesome. I am always suspicious of late entrances, especially with unconventional characters, but I liked that. quote:Before I read it, I was about to suggest you don't, but it is perfectly suited for this perspective. Mh. So now Melora has been "hypnotized" to initiate contact. We'll see how that works out later on. We'll also assume that she was able to pick up a part of the pattern of the healing magic (the X'somhra thing she used against the Curator). -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • The Stats • Polaris • IRC• RSS [Topic / Forum (redirect)] The awful doom of Yaddith we evade Will soon be snuffling at our heels again The snouted worms can track us through our dreams. Yes, but a commonly accepted policy in SW games is not to gut non-hostile NPCs until they attack, insult your mother or strongly disagree with you. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. I noticed that the link on TM's site is out of date anyway (still pointing to the old Geocities page), so if you read this TM, perhaps when you next update your page you could both change the link and take out the real name. :) [ Wednesday, June 14, 2006 04:25: Message edited by: Drow ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. OOC: We're currently working up to a climactic battle, but we're not there yet. However, the problem is not so much with employers checking up on their employees, but on job applicants about to have an interview. The shoot-Bill-Gates joke is funny when you know the person who makes it, but if you haven't met them yet you can't know how to take such things. It's like with the "blunt smoking" thing. His friends know he's kidding, the interviewer doesn't... -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. "No." The word was softly spoken, and yet it reverberated through the silence like a shout of defiance. They turned around. It had been some time since the dark elf had said anything. She felt the stares of their eyes, living, dead and demonic, but faltered only for an instant before catching herself. She spoke on: "You take us all for fools. Why should we follow you to your master's lair, where we are utterly at his mercy?" The Curator laughed again, and the druid winced at the grating sound. "You already are. Behold -", and he raised a finger. The room vibrated, there was a brief sensation of movement and a distant rumble. The door behind them vanished, and another tunnel had opened to the side. "You are at the heart of his lair, and it is his power here that holds sway, and not the mountain's. You will follow, willing or bound." The mountain's? So it is there. What the Druid felt was true. And if Orloki has had to suppress that force, perhaps it may yet be of use. A glance told her that Sequoia had noted the Lich's slip as well. She pushed the thought aside. The master would be dealt with later. For now, it was important to humiliate the servant - enraged minions tended to grow unreliable. Apparently, Lisha had had the same thought, for she said: "We have not come here to bandy words with Orloki's lapdog. Go back to your master and tell him we are waiting here in this chamber. Let him come out if the years have not made him soft and craven." It is not easy to anger the Undead. For one, they have had a lot of time to learn patience. The Curator opened his mouth to laugh, but was interrupted. "X'somhra." Melora raised her hand and recited a word from the book she had read earlier. The healing spell would have turned lesser undead to dust, but the lich was far too powerful to be seriously harmed. Still, it caught him on the side of the face, a stinging slap on the cheek that made him wince. "Run to your master, dog." Her voice had changed. Before, it had been cold, now it could have frozen hellfire. "Run and get him, and then hide, lest you crave eternal rest." There is something backwards about a drow banishing undead, she realized. First time for everything. OOC: Back! Yay!
