It was the hardest part, really. The program now reads in the file, finds links (with regular expressions) identifies those links pointing to topics on Spiderweb, and replaces them with another regular expression match. If you are able to, change the router settings to allow port number 5190 through. Otherwise, ask your parents (assuming they can and want you to be able to use AIM, of course...). Sorry for gravedigging, but I didn't want to start a new topic for this. If you've tried to look at the Pied Piper archives in the last few weeks, you've seen that they were locked down completely for maintainance. It's not so much a critical error as a load of small annoying problems that caused this. The entire site is coded horrendously - I was a PHP newbie when I made it. With roleplays to finish and my exams next week, it will be some time before there is a real website back in place (including a search function). But I do have the core of the archive done: A way to browse the entire archive, by forum and topic, with easy navigation and short, clean URLs. Fancy mod_rewrite stuff made the following URLs possible: http://pied-piper.ermarian.net/ppp/archives (a list of all forums) http://pied-piper.ermarian.net/ppp/forum/1 (all topics in the general forum) http://pied-piper.ermarian.net/ppp/topic/1/2705 (topic #2705 in General). Yes, he's our host and has always been the primary admin. But, say, ef has been a Polaran as long as he has (I haven't, I joined late in 2003). The group has moved around a fair bit - around 4-5 different incarnations of the forum (although we didn't lose all posts in the last move). IIRC, I was told it started in an AIM chatroom. "Started" isn't accurate, really. He was one of the forerunners, true, but Polaris originated from a group of people. The community that is now Polaris "existed" before it had any name or even a forum. All your base are belong to Ory'hara, actually. Did you try to put the link directly into your aggregator? It's meant to be a gateway page linking to the actual feed (should have made it more clear). I'll change the link to point directly to the feed. The other two (Topic and Forum) actually have to link to subscribe.php because the program needs to work out what Topic or Forum you are coming from. ;) Edit: Sometimes I get some crazy idea and then delve into the topic for hours only to find out what I want to do is impossible. Basically, I wanted to have some kind of content negotiation for the page - the server would see if the user agent wanted an xml feed or an html page, and then return the appropriate content. Unfortunately, it appears user agents aren't very cooperative in that respect. The http "Accept" header is practically useless for this purpose - even Firefox will send the same headers whether it retrieves a Live Bookmark feed or an actual page. So I only have a choice between sending an xml feed directly, or sending an html page that won't work in aggregators. The former is probably the better choice - a human has less difficulty with a feed than a machine has with a page for humans. It's not essential, but it's yet another disillusioning experience about how the web works and how it should. :rolleyes: Edit: Won't even work with automatic redirects. Aggregators don't follow them. I can't output the feed directly from the link destination (subscribe.php) because the output depends on the referer - so the address won't work in an aggregator. Ah well. It would've been nice if it worked. What was the difference? She mentally went over her arsenal. A lot of the daggers were wasted in the previous battles, but half a dozen remained. She had been careful to retrieve the single mithril dagger. It gave off a mild shine in the darkness, and she suspected it was somehow blessed - how else could it slay a demon? But against Orloki, it would be a blessed toothpick. The bow was also still there. It was her only remaining weapon of elven manufacture, and although she had spared her few arrows so far, it was easily her best. But they were for physical enemies, not foes that could move mountains and raise storms. Magic would be her only chance. But her skill was mediocre at best: She was neither a necromancer nor a demonologist; her only specialty lay in stealth and disguise. "I'm not made for this," she suddenly surprised herself by speaking out loud again. Was she not? And the wraiths of Shanaar? The guardians that stalk the Golden Temple? The cries of shantak among the Iron Pillars? Compared to the nightmare realms she had explored, this should have been a pleasant walk. Instead she was here, waiting to be killed. The shantak never came close. The guardians fled before me. I bid the wraiths move aside and they obeyed, she remembered. With fear in their pale eyes... --- The realization came with a pang. Of course it was not she that commanded such power. It was the... thing... she had brought with her. In those years, it had been with her always. It was not silent then, nor controlled. Without finding rest, she wandered the world, from the bottomless roots to the highest peaks, and those she came upon knew her as their own. "Are we made to be vessels?" Her voice was low, but echoed in the enclosed darkness. "Filled with the power of the gods, but none of our own?" The face of the druid swam into memory. Several faces - the serene wisdom in the forest, the fear in the caverns, the injuries and the exhaustion, and the anger as he became a living outlet for nature's wrath. Was he content? He was, she answered herself immediately. Lisha wasn't, Melora reflected. An agent of the Grand Lord she might be, her whole life devoted to serving, but she was not a vessel. She had merely suppressed her independence, and now, far from the Grand Lord and close to her own demise, it boiled forward. She had seen it, briefly - flickering as Melora spoke of her quest, dancing in her eyes when she had aided Sequoia. Very sorry for reviving this topic, but there was this article on Slashdot about use of wireless access points. So it is, indeed, illegal - he hasn't been convicted yet, but he did get arrested. Apparently, an unprotected network is not implicitly free to use... Edit: Although the charge is "theft of services", since in this case it was a commercial service (internet café). I wonder if this would apply to home wifi networks as well.
