Umm, what? I know that eliminating all discrimination is probably impossible, but I fail to see how it's necessary.

On topic, I'm straight but I have no qualms about gays.

Off topic again, YAY!!!! 100 posts. IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards I have an intriguing question for my fellow Spidweb users (3)_files/biggrin.gif)

I agree with Serpentar. Arnold may not be qualified to run the state, but I think he's at least smart enough to realise that he has no idea what he's doing, and listen to someone competent.

Or, maybe the entire state will spontaneously combust.

Should I buy the hint book? I haven't for any other games (I can't resist that kind of temptation) but I'm wondering if the hintbook for BoA would have some useful tips for creating a good scenario. Just wondering...

23. Some people are just plain mean.
24. If you don't have something nice to say, try running away.
25. If your pants weigh 40 pounds, find some different pants.

Not necessarily that I learned those things from Spiderweb the first time, just that they are things one could learn.

...that I learned from playing Spiderweb Software games.

1. The more difficult the challenge, the greater the reward.
2. Be nice to people, and good things will befall you.
3. Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy a reasonable facsimile.
4. Hard work helps, but few things can compete with good old fashioned random luck.
5. Friends are a big help in times of need.
6. Small packages can hold big surprises.
7. Rediculously large packages can sometimes hold quite a bit of disappointment.
8. There's always more than one way to skin a kitty, or a fyora, or an ogre, or a thahd, or a troglo, or...
9. The line between good and evil is often blurred.
10. Be careful what you say to people, sarcasm is often lost on Takers.
11. There's no shame in backing down when you're outgunned.
12. It may seem like everyone is out to get you, and you're right.

Add your own quirky or serious thoughts!

OOC: Wow, sorry for the serious lack of posts. Long story. Anyway...

IC: After Aarrow had released his arrow from the Demon Bow, killing hundreds of soldiers on each side, his body was wracked with pain. Several arrows from the enemies had struck his body, and his spell had sapped all his strength. Laying low the rest of the battle, he was forced to only watch as the other warriors held off both armies. Finally, the fighting subsided for the night and he dragged himself back into the inn. He hid his pain well, and after only a few mugs of ale, he retired to his room and collapsed into a deep slumber...

Suddenly, a massive explosion rocked the inn. Aarrow jerked, then moaned in pain. Every muscle in his body throbbed with pain and he could barely move.

It's a good thing I used one of the lesser techniques of the Demon Bow, he thought to himself. Judging from the position of the sun, he had been asleep for well over a day. Straightening his spine and once again concealing his pain, Aarrow made his way to the commons. The scene was horrific. People lay dead or injured everywhere as far too few tended to their wounds. Many were simply civilians who had taken up arms to defend an inn they had no connection to. His rage against the armies began to build.

This carnage will stop, even if I have to kill every one of them! Suddenly, someone rushed into the commons and shouted, "The Geraldians have broken into the inn through the cellar! And they have the innkeeper's daughter!"

Aarrow's rage reached the boiling point. "I swear if they've done anything to her...," he growled. Ignoring his searing pain, he gathered himself and raced toward the cellar door, nocking an arrow as he went.

OOC: Sorry, everyone. I haven't been online since Wednesday. Pretty hectic week. I'll do better from now on.

IC: As Aarrow felled soldier after soldier with his well aimed shots, it became clear that the inn was going to fall soon. Some of the best warriors in the tavern were not even in the battle, and the ones fighting were merely holding the two armies at bay. If the two armies hadn't been expending so much of their efforts against each other, the inn would already have fallen. Seeing his quiver grow closer and closer to being empty, he knew it was time to reveal the true power of the Demon Bow.

In remembrance of you, Eto.

Focusing his spirit with all his might, Aarrow whispered in a unrecognizeable tongue. The runes on his bow began to glow, and the arrow he had nocked glowed fiery red. A strange aura began to surround him, from which intense heat did radiate. Several soldiers from each army noticed the spell he was preparing, and the archers focused their efforts on him. As their arrows whizzed by dangerously close, Aarrow remained motionless, repeating his unintelligible chant.

I need more time, Arrow thought. It's not ready yet.

OOC: I hope this RP doesn't die, I think it's great.

Quite hung over, Aarrow stumbled out of bed and walked in on the bartender speaking with Schostas.

"Are you going to help us with the problem or what?"

"Yes, I will help. What would you like me to do?"

Confused, Aarrow asked a bystander what was going on. "Are you blind? The armies of Lance and Gerald have surrounded us. If we don't join one of them, we're all doomed!"

Aarrow processed this for a moment, then queried, "Why don't we just kill all of them?" Most of the people in the room burst out in laughter. Not much of a leader, Aarrow retreated to a corner to order a few drinks and let someone else sort things out.

OOC: Sodium Cyanide, please take this seriously or leave.

IC: Aarrow Swift drank in silence while he watched people slowly filter out of the bar and to their rooms. Soon, only he, Schostas, and a few roudy men remained. In fact, the men were being a little too roudy. They were beginning to get on Aarrow's nerves. As Neris served them yet another round of ale, one of the men grabbed her quite inappropriately and whispered something in her ear. She struggled to get away, but the man refused to loosen his grip. Faster than untrained eyes could track, Aarrow leapt from his seat at the bar, drew his bow, and leveled an arrow directly at the man's heart.
"Release the girl. Now."
A standoff ensued, and for several seconds the two men stared each other down. Luckily, a conflict was avoided when the bartender stepped between them.
"Naw I don want nobody gettin skewered in my bar, and I don wan nobody touchin my girl loik that again. Unnerstand?"
The two men merely glared at each other, but the man released Neris, and Aarrow replaced his bow. Out of the corner of his eye, he noted that Schostas, face still buried in a book, was replacing a throwing star as well. Despite himself, he laughed. What a night this turned out to be. Leaving the bartender to comfor Neris, and a handsome tip lying on the bar, Aarrow showed himself to his room.

OOC: How long should we wait for more people to join before we start the story? I think four or five more people would be about perfect. Too many makes it confusing, and increases conflicting stories.

IC: After his fourth pitcher of ale, Aarrow was feeling unusually friendly. He raised his head and scanned the bar, mentally noting how each patron held themself. The assassin in the corner, I think I've heard of him, Aarrow thought to himself. His name is... Malakai? Quite a reputation. He could be dangerous, but only if I let him get the slip on me. I'll keep my eye on that one. His eyes continued to drift across the bar in such a way that it appeared completely natural. Hmm... the hooded one looks like trouble, but I don't think I'll need to worry. Doesn't look like the type to stab you in the back. Finally, he rested his gaze on the young man next to him. Aarrow barely stifled a laugh as a tear dripped from the young man's cheek. Gulp after gulp, he continued to choke down the liquid fire he had been served, and his virginity to such things was apparent.
"Lemme show you how a real man holds his drink. Barkeep? Gimme double what he's havin'."

OOC: Well, I guess I'll give this RP a shot. I ve been too wary to join any others, but this one shows promise.

IC: A grisly man, powerfully built and heavily scarred, sat at the bar and ordered a pitcher of ale. He appeared to be in his thirties or fourties, and he was armed to the teeth. Broadswords, daggars, scimitars, and a variety of other weapons covered his body, but what caught the eye of Schostas was the beautiful carved bow and quiver that he carried on his back. It made Schostas uneasy to even look at it. Clearly, the bow was powerfully charmed. When asked his name, he grumbled only one word: Aarrow. Noone had ever heard of or seen the man, and all left him to his solitude. Though he had arrived from the direction of Lance's kingdom, whether or not he was aligned with Lance was a mystery. What role this strange man would play in events to come would soon be revealed...

While we're on the subject of theoretical mathematics...

Girls = Money x Time

Time = Money

Girls = Money x Money = Money^2

Money = Root of all Evil

Girls = Root of all Evil^2

So, Girls = All Evil

So, noone would have a problem if I said Hawthorne was assassinated in 822; the war with Avernum began shortly after, ending in late 824; Prazac's ascension to the throne was in 826; the plagues started in 830?

Who was the interim ruler of the Empire? Garzhad? Howar?

I think someone should make an actual ship graphic so we can have more than just rowboats on the surface. Also, a shipdeck battle terrain would be pretty sweet.

I need to know a few dates from some of the veterans.
1. What year was Hawthorne assassinated?
2. What years did the Empire War against Avernum begin/end?
3. What year did the plagues on the surface start?

Thanks a bunch for your help. :)

Exactly. There are other things we do that create more antibiotic resistant bacteria than feeding antibiotics to animals, and there are other things that are more serious threats. i.e death tolls in tens of millions. Remember, 100 years ago, we didn't have antibiotics. So, if in 50 they've all stopped being effective, we're really just back where we started. Remember, the plague didn't end the world.

I'm fine with GM foods for now, but I have a problem with the false sense of security it gives the farming industry. When we genetically modify a plant to withstand roundup, that's cool. When farmers start dumping hundreds of millions of gallons of herbicides on these fields because it won't hurt that crop, we have a problem. Plus, plants have an odd tendency to spread traits to certain weeds. What if bindweed becomes round-up ready? That could cause some major problems.
