OOC: Kind of makes my previous post about about its pounding footsteps a little odd. Oh well. IC: As the warriors of the inn gathered themselves together in preparation to fight the Dark Wyrm, they seemed to have forgotton about the monks. Rasil, Aarrow, Schostas, and Shadow Wolf surrounded the beast while the Monks began a strange chant. At least the monks are helping us with our common enemy, Aarrow thought. A blue aura surrounded the monks and began to envelope the Wyrm. It writhed and thrashed, fighting the monks power, but then it collapsed. Hmm... Somewhat anticlimactic. This isn't right. Too late, it began to dawn on the warriors that perhaps the monks weren't fighting the Wyrm at all. Before they could act to strike the creature while it was down or disrupt the monks' spell, the Wyrm reared up and gave another roar, it's eyes glowing a strange blue color. Even worse, the monks took a clearly offensive stance against the warriors. I have no choice. I have to use the ultimate technique of the Demon Bow. Aarrow turned to Rasil and simply said, "Cover me." With that, the battle began. -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." Posts: 277 | Registered: Tuesday, August 13 2002 07:00 |

OOC: Sorry, I've been gone since Friday. Time to make up for lost... er... time... IC: Aarrow's ale was running out, and he and Rasil were no closer to discovering the cause of the pile of bones. "Let's just take this soldier with us. Maybe he'll have some information on the Geraldians plans for us." "You're forgetting that we have no idea how to get back!" Suddenly, the two warriors heard a tremendous roar coming from further down the passage they had found Kris. Then, the sound of increasingly rapid footsteps approaching them. Aarrow looked at Rasil. "You know, a great warrior knows when to stand and fight, and when to flee with honor. Now, I think, would be a good time to test our speed." Picking up the fallen Geraldian soldier, the two began to flee through the caverns, the pounding footsteps of... something... never falling too far behind. OOC: Hmm... I wonder where their hasty flight could lead them... -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." Posts: 277 | Registered: Tuesday, August 13 2002 07:00 |

IC: Aarrow turned to Rasil's voice and saw the figure raising a sword to strike him. Reverting back to his training as hunter, he whistled sharply. Rasil cringed and the figure hesitated, giving Aarrow plenty of time to nock his bow and strike the stranger in the shoulder. It made a strange, gurgling sound, and dropped its weapon. That was all Rasil needed. He drew a dagger and finished the enemy. Aarrow jogged over to his side and bent over to inspect their attacker. "Thanks, Aarrow." Aarrow didn't respond. Instead, he began searching the fallen enemy's body. The stranger was wearing the armor of the Geraldians, and its face was concealed by a helmet. Aarrow removed the helmet, then paused. "It's a... goblin?" He turned and saw the quizzical expression on Rasil's face, confiriming his impression of the situation as well. "But, goblins couldn't possibly have done all this," Rasil pointed out, unnecessarily. "Not alone, anyway..." -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." IC: Aarrow and Rasil trudged through the twisting cellars, which could hardly be classified as cellars any longer. They had long since left the parts explored and frequented by the innkeeper, and were now quite obviously in a cave. Rasil, fortunately, happened to have a torch with him, and used it to illuminate the dark cavern. Oddly, Aarrow detected a hint of... death. "Something is wrong, Rasil." "What is it?" "I don't know, but I have a feeling we both will shortly." The two rounded another twist in the cavern and saw a gruesome sight. The passage opened up into a cave where hundreds of skeletons littered the floor, many broken into pieces. Scraps of armor proudly displayed the insignia of the kingdom of Gerald. Even more disturbing than this, however, was the lack of any blood, gore, or rot. The skeletons had each been picked clean. The soldiers weapons and supplies were nowhere to be found. Rasil turned to Aarrow. "Well, that answers one question." Aarrow furrowed his eyebrows. "But it raises yet another." -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." We should all make things easier and learn Mandarin Chinese. Personally, I like learning new languages. I know a lot of people just take the required 2 years of a second language in high school and forget it all as fast as they learned it. w00t. Hablo español también, pero inglés es mi idioma primera. Algo me extraña. En los Estados Unidos, aprendemos solo dos idiomas. En otros paises, aprenden tres o cuatro o más idiomas. ¿Porque está? ¿Somos solo perezoso? IC: Aarrow and Rasil continued to make their way through the trashed cellars, wading through trash and rubble. Though the Geraldians had taken most of their equipment with them, what remained made Aarrow think that their retreat had been hasty. Apparently, they hadn't wanted anyone to follow them, and had set off magical explosions in numerous places. Fortunately, no place was too caved-in for progress to be stopped. At times, Aarrow thought he felt a presence, but besides the occasional slime or lizard scurrying into the shadows, there seemed to be nothing in the cellars but twists and turns. Before long, both were utterly lost. Aarrow took a drink from his flask, freshly filled with ale, then turned to Rasil. "Well, this isn't quite how I expected this to go. Any ideas?" IC: Aarrow was sober. He wasn't killing anyone. And he was sober. In short, he was miserable. He couldn't stand doing nothing. Neris was in Gerald's hands, and everyone was just waiting around for some crazy scheme cooked up by someone who had spent the last 8 hours in a coma to solve all their problems. He paced back and forth in his room, his frustration growing. Not having any alcohol in his system, he found it difficult to think clearly. Aarrow clawed absent-mindedly at his left arm, where just last night it had been lacerated by an enemy sword. This morning, however, all that remained was a scar; one more to add to his collection. Perhaps by nothing more than a stroke of random luck, the inn happened to be filled with some amazing alchemists and healers who were able to take care of the injured. After a good night's sleep and some care from the healers, nearly everyone who had engaged in the battle yesterday was physically recovered. Physically recovered, but not necessarily mentally recovered. Everyone was on edge, and innkeeper was obviously unstable. And all they did was wait. His frustration reaching the boiling point, Aarrow punched the wall, and left a nice hole to the next room. It was, much to his relief, uninhabited at the moment. Still, he could wait no longer. He gathered his quiver, stocked full, and his bow and other weapons before making his way to the room of Schostas, where most of the patrons of the inn had gathered. He opened the door and said, in a gruff voice, "I'm retaking the cellars. Whether I have help or not is up to you." Turning around, he strode to the door of the cellar and flung it open, arrow nocked. Strangely, no Geraldians were camped nearby. Relieved, Aarrow was able to tap some of the barrels of ale the Geraldians hadn't touched. Curious, he looked behind him to see who had followed him... -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." Posts: 277 | Registered: Tuesday, August 13 2002 07:00 |

OOC: Thanks, Tommy. IC: Aarrow paced restlessly outside the inn. Inside with the others he had felt... suffocated. Outside, he could think clearly. He replayed the events from the days before over and over in his head. Could I have done something different? There had to have been an opportunity. If only I hadn't acted so hastily with the Demon Bow. If only I hadn't given into the pain so easily. If only.. Neris was in the hands of Gerald, and he couldn't forgive himself. He pulled a flask out from his pack and took a long swig. Then, he coughed and gasped for air as the wicked brew burned his innards. Why should I care about some innkeeper's daughter? I only met her two days ago. What do I owe her? Or anyone in this miserable inn for that matter? But Aarrow knew the truth. In his life, he had seen a thousand lifetimes worth of destruction and pain. If ever an opportunity to help the helpless presented itself, he couldn't walk away. And the girl... She reminds me so much of Nadia. So innocent... Finishing the flask he carried, Aarrow threw it to the ground and spit. The monsters summoned in the battle earlier had largely been destroyed by Lance's army, but several of the stronger creatures had survived, and napped peacefully around the inn. Looking back into the inn through a window, Aarrow saw that many of the defenders had retired for the night. Still thinking of younger days with Nadia and Eto-Ka, Aarrow too returned to his room and joined the others in the land of Nod. -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." I eat horribly. Not only do I eat unhealthy food, but I also eat about 3500 calories a day. (Yeah, I count) But then I go out and run 6 or 7 miles, so I'm fairly skinny. I'm 6 feet tall and weigh about 150. Oh yeah, and my social security # is 515328269. -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." I have dreams that it's the next day, and I've forgotten something really important. Probably because I go to sleep worried that I will forget. OOC: Er, I don't really want to go IC yet because I would have two consecutive IC's. Tommy, It seems your character and mine are the only ones engaged in the battle right now, and premonition's is clear off with Gerald, so I'll just wait and post after your next one. Just do me a favor and <if> you decide to finish the battle, don't have everyone retire for the night. I have one more thing to add... -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." IC: Aarrow watched in amazement as Schostas first protected and healed the innkeeper, then summoned a virtual army of strange magic creatures to engage the Lancians. However, once the summoning spell was complete, Schostas collapsed on the ground. Hey, that's my move! Unfortunately, now was not the time for humor. Though the Geraldians had nearly all cleared out of the valley, and the Lancians were otherwise engaged, it was not yet safe to breathe a sigh of relief. Rasil gathered up the unconsious Schostas and started toward the inn, shouting to his fellows for a retreat. Gritting his teeth and depending heavily on the door for assistance, Aarrow struggled to his feet. The pain that coursed through his body was almost unbearable, but dire circumstances meant sacrifices were necessary if the inn was to be saved. His quiver empty, Aarrow put the Demon Bow in its place on his back and drew a wickedly curved sword, using it to cut a leg off of a nearby table and fashion a makeshift cane. As the bleeding and exhausted warriors came into the inn, their hearts fell. The defenders that had been battling the Geraldians inside were being pushed back into the commons. Things looked grim. The innkeeper stood on one side, still covered with a few remaining traces of Schostas' protection spell, Rasil stood on the other, breathing heavily and bleeding from several minor wounds, and Aarrow stood between them, leaning on his staff but still a dangerous opponent. Joining the weary defenders from inside, the three fighters led the warriors from outside in a valiant charge to repel the Geraldians. OOC: There. We can finish this battle and retire for a night. The creatures offered a good distraction for the Lancians. By the way, where are Zephyr Tempest and Imban? I thought their conflict was pretty interesting. -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." Posts: 277 | Registered: Tuesday, August 13 2002 07:00 |

OOC: I think the situation has been resolved. Kogar was just a little confused as to what was happening inside and what was happening outside. There were, however, fights going on both inside and outside the inn. So, just make what he said be outside, and everything is fine. IC: Lying on the floor, his body wracked with pain, Aarrow could only watch the battle at hand. He had not intended to use the magic of the Demon Bow again so soon, but the circumstances had forced him. To save Neris yet let her surrogate father perish could hardly be considered a victory. As he watched, the magic barrier around Gerald was dispelled and the weakened forces of the Geraldians plunged into battle. The soldiers of Lance's kingdom, who had not been as actively engaged in the battle, rode in to fight the Geraldians as well. Gerald, seeing his forces were in trouble, shouted for a retreat, his archers offering backup. The warriors, however, were intent on giving chase. No you fools! Sounds of a battle going badly for the defenders of the inn could be heard by Aarrow, but not by those engaging the Geraldian troops. It was clear to Aarrow that the best course of action was to return to the inn to repel the Geraldians inside, but the warriors caught up in the heat of battle were not about to let the fleeing Gerald get away. Gerald is no fool. So long as Neris is alive and in his possession, he has a bargaining chip. He won't hurt her, and now is not the time to fight. Paralyzed by his shot from the Demon Bow, Aarrow could only hope his fellow fighters made the smart choice. If something was not done soon, the inn would be lost, and so would any hope of victory. -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." If you have a sega saturn, and can find it, I highly suggest Mysteria. Amazingly fun game; I rented it once but never got the chance to play it again. After you're done with it, you can loan it to me. Just an example of a great game being made for a terrible platform. If only Sega wasn't retarded, maybe more people would have had the pleasure to play Mysteria. -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." IC: The bartender lay on the ground, soldiers readily advancing. Though Schostas was fast, it was clear he would not reach the bartender in time. The soldiers' weapons were raised, but a sudden flurry of arrows glowing with an eerie green aura sailed through the air, striking each of them directly in their hearts. Strangely, not one soldier could even muster the strength to strike the bartender with his final breath. The glow from the arrows spread over the body of each one, causing them to collapse and die rapidly, withering as they fell. Surprised, everyone turned and looked back at the inn. Standing in the door, soaked in blood, stood Aarrow, the last traces of an eerie green glow evaporating from his body. The battle slowed for a moment as the combatants absorbed the new developements. She looks so much like... Aarrow tried to remain standing, but his knees buckled and he collapsed in a heap at the entrance of the inn. Though the bartender was no longer in eminent danger, he was badly wounded, and Neris was yet to be rescued. Worse yet for Aarrow, the battle inside the inn was still raging, as was the battle outside, and he had fallen most inopportunely between them. -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle."
