Does anyone know of a good, real rpg, like realmz, exile, Avernum or such. not an action rpg like Arcanum or Baldurs Gate. Posts: 25 | Registered: Thursday, April 25 2002 07:00 |

Planescape: Torment is the best. Morte rules. That is all. And I would hardly say that Baldur's Gate is an action RPG. -------------------- Who was born in a house full of pain Who was trained not to spit in the fan Who was told what to do by the man Who was broken by trained personnel Who was fitted with collar and chain Who was given a pat on the back Who was breaking away from the pack Who was only a stranger at home Who was ground down in the end Who was found dead on the phone Who was dragged down by the stone Posts: 595 | Registered: Tuesday, March 12 2002 08:00 |

No offense but Baldur's gate is not an action RPG, its more of an adventure series like Avernum. Ever hear of Ice Windale, awesome game, made by Wizards of the Coast, Black Isle, and Nivia i beleive, any way if you want non computer ones have you tried the Zelda series, Ever Quest(which is actually a computer game too, but i don't it play any more)or Final Fantasy. Hope this helps..hehe -------------------- --Axerax the Dragon Tamer-- Posts: 283 | Registered: Tuesday, September 17 2002 07:00 |

Yes, Planescape: Torment is the best, and BG is not an action RPG. Other good RPGs include Pool of Radiance, Secret of the Silver Blades, and all those other good ol’ 2nd Edition D&D games. I also recommend the many roguelike games out there. -------------------- ~ §øСüm©ÿªñ¡Ðë ~ Mission Ridge -- All Your Snow Are Belong to Us. Posts: 1277 | Registered: Monday, June 24 2002 07:00 |

Realmz is... I'll just agree with the above poster and say that while I have the full version, I did not make the mistake of paying for it. I also haven't made the mistake of PLAYING it more than once, so... Posts: 3234 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

I only know of a few oldies, Albion was a great rpg. Castle of the Winds and Rangarok/Valhalla have Exile style graphics and can be fun. Hmmm ... the Ultima series? Lands of Lore (the original one). Some of those are now freeware, but most of those are pretty rare, but if you can find them. -------------------- Fine Meal is people!!! Posts: 289 | Registered: Saturday, February 16 2002 08:00 |

I have played Aleshar - the world of ice (the unregistered version). Graphics are not so good but it has got an interesting plot. Also, very original game (the navigation system, for an instance). Try it out. And I think Baldur's Gate was nice. Imagine the game engine being put in the hands of Jeff... Nicer. Ok, if you go for Ultima, I recommend "Ultima VII: The Black Gate". You can also try the second part of Ultima VII, called "The Serpent Isle". But it's not as good as the first part. -------------------- GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY TOMATO! Posts: 367 | Registered: Sunday, December 23 2001 08:00 |

ok, thanks for all your help. Baldurs Gate might not be an action/rpg, but it's still one of those new rpg's with too good graphics Posts: 25 | Registered: Thursday, April 25 2002 07:00 |

I'll second Troubled Queen's motion. Plus if you don't mind old-fashioned graphics play the prequels Ultima V and VI first (since the first three don't have a plot to speak of and the fourth is a borderline case imho) -------------------- Freude, schöner Götterfunken, Tochter aus Elysium, Wir betreten feuertrunken, Himmlische, dein Heilighthum! I must protest the innocence of Arcanum on the charges of being an "action rpg". You can switch between turn-based and real time combat, so you don't need to go buttonmashing. It's got a compelling storyline, many conversation can have a big impact on your future choices depending on how you play them out, and depending on your personality/race etc. Much more so than most SW games where you either just type in every word that an NPC says and finally get your information, or have very limited dialogue options *cough*avernum*cough*. Furthermore it's got great graphics, but that's just icing on the cake for an already great game. Graphics can detract from gameplay/storylines but in Arcanum, they don't. Emjay's short list of the best games ever: 1. Exile 2: Crystal Meth 2. Arcanum -------------------- Contradictions get me everything I want. Love is all. Love is Evil. I couldn't decide what to say to that so choose a reply from the following. 1. That's what they want you to think 2. Crystal Soul might have been the **** in the seventies but It's not something your regular dealer carries these days. 3. Do I really need to use those pesky little gremlin-faces everytime I'm not being dead serious? -------------------- Contradictions get me everything I want. Love is all. Love is Evil. I'd suggest Ogre Battle games. Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Calibur, is by far the greatest and my favorite game ever. Its a strategy RPG with a unique battle system. If you have an N64 rent it. IF you are a true lover of RPGs then you will love the game. (Its nice and long to, with 40 hours of gameplay.) -------------------- I be rockin' da paradise baby. Ogre Battle games are THE best!!! Second only to the Shining Force games they are! Sadly, you need a functioning Sega Genesis to play SF games, and you need an ultra-rare copy of Ogre Battle for PS1 to enjoy that one. -------------------- -"Well, double dumbass on you!" -William Shatner, Star Trek: The Motion Picture Posts: 51 | Registered: Tuesday, September 23 2003 07:00 |

If you have a sega saturn, and can find it, I highly suggest Mysteria. Amazingly fun game; I rented it once but never got the chance to play it again. After you're done with it, you can loan it to me. Just an example of a great game being made for a terrible platform. If only Sega wasn't retarded, maybe more people would have had the pleasure to play Mysteria. -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." Ogre Battle was for SNES. Ogre Battle 64 : Person of Lordly Caliber is for the N64. Tactics Ogre Gaiden : The Knight of Lodis is for the GBA. It is only Tactics Ogre which is for two systems. If you can read Japanese or are up to the challenge of playing a game in Japanese, you can play the SNES version. If you have lots of money to buy it on E-Bay or something, look for the PSX version of it - it's in English. Posts: 3234 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

I actualy managed to get my hands on one of the rare ogre battle games for PS1, but I must admit to not being too impressed. Although at least I finaly saw where the disciples series got their ideas from. Either way, much like disciples, it's more of a strategy game then an RPG.
