With lightning speed Whitemask draws the right sword with the backhand to parry the initial attack. He then leaped back, spinning as he drew the left blade. Seems to be a madman like my father, Whitemask said to himself. The demonic beast continued his charge. Channelling energy to his blades Whitemask slashed down with his left blade and thrust forward, then made a swift horizontal cut with his right blade, shackling the beast in green energy. The demon's gaze met Whitemask's eyes, seemingly glowing from under the mask. The creature slowly began to lose its bloodlust - it seemed as if Whitemask knew all... Those who endorse the pure strength of the Circle of War have no idea about the advantages of the Circle of Healing, the blademaster thought. A cunning blademaster with mastery skill can truly prevent great amounts of potential damage. OOC: yes, i know the demon is Toric. Whitemask is a master of the Circle of Thievery, with some degree of skill in the Circles of War and Thievery. this means he is adept at avoiding damage by using mostly mind tricks and energy shackling, as well as actually healing to a limited degree. and yes, he can drain mana from hostile casters and convert it into his own energies. basically he can fight in melee, but he is not one with the raw power of any other seasoned fighter. -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. The party suddenly started running, and would've run Whitemask over in a stampede if he had not leaped into the air to evade them. The masked blademaster then chased the party, and caught up with them quickly. He called for them to stop. They were surprised to see a lithe blademaster in mostly white, wearing a white mask that covered most of the face. Two identical, sheathed blades lay strapped to his sides. "I can see that we're all in the same boat," Whitemask said. "I wish to know your professions. Hopefully there shouldn't be any ... freshmen among us." OOC: can i start some sort of sidequest related to the main quest here, involving a group of higher undead battling demons and the sort that the catastrophic thing from the intro introduced? the undead would be the powerful beings that were forcibly raised from the dead like liches and undead rangers and vampires - but they were too powerful to be controlled. i'll tell more later if this is approved. At the edge of a cliff, Whitemask observed. Perhaps, some assistance may actually be available for his near-eternal quest. He pulled a large gem out of an ornate shoulder pack and stared at it for a while. The gem was the crystallized heart of his wife, and also contained her soul. Perhaps, in this land, I may find something... that will allow you to live again, he thought. Slowly, the blademaster, clad in mostly white, placed the gem back and headed down to the port city... OOC: Whitemask/Wise Man wields dual blades that can combine to form a twin blade sword. And yes, he DOES wear a white mask that covers most of his face. Except the mouth. Otherwise he won't be able to eat without taking the mask off. Shadow Wolf had managed to make it to the outside of the Inn - which doubled as a battlefield - to observe the magnitude of the fighting. We obviously never learn, he said to himself. Always repeating the mistakes of the past. Just then, five soldiers managed to spot him. They immediately charged, head on. "Fools," Shadow Wolf spat. "Drudges with a blank mind, except to fight and die." He drew Silentstriker, blade pulling out without sound. The blademaster stabbed the lead man multiple times in major arteries, causing him to die quickly of heavy bleeding. Shadow Wolf leapt into the air, allowing the men at his sides to impale each other in their spears. He landed, standing on a soldier's sabre. The soldier swung his blade in an attempt to shake Shadow Wolf off, but found his throat slit. The last tried to escape, and Shadow Wolf allowed him to, instead of pursuing him and killing him off. So, the soldiers are indeed quite zealous, he said to himself. This Inn here must also be investigated. It seems something strange has to have roused these two kingdoms to wage war. Something different from the apparent cause." "Something like the Great Demon?" "Precisely. Prepare for the drop, Din. Preferably out of sight of the battle at that tavern, so that we won't attract unnecessary attention." "Aite." With that, Din maneuvered (sp?) the craft away from the battle, and to the fringe of a nearby forest to the southwest. The blademaster then dropped from it and landed in a clearing. OOC: if you don't mind, i'll finish him off... IC: Shadow Wolf got up, after painstakingly removing the energies of Fluffy and Mancire such that the two would not kill him. "Shadow Wolf! Do something!" He heard someone say, but did not know who. "None may stop me now!" Balthazar cried. "Prepare to die, rebels!" With that, the wizard king began to prepare some sort of spell to finish them off. Making sure Balthazar wouldn't notice, Shadow Wolf cloaked himself, and became invisible. Balthazar's spell was nearly complete, but none were able to stop him as they were basically attacking the strongest part of his shielding. The spell was suddenly interrupted, by a blade through Balthazar's chest, from behind. "Check," Shadow Wolf whispered, now visible. "You should've been ready for a backstab." "But it is still not checkmate." Balthazar thrust the blade of Silentstriker back out of his body, forcing him to leap back to avoid the firebolt that followed. At least I weakened the fool... OOC: just saying, Shadow Wolf is immune to mental magics, up to and including mind control. however, he lacks the brute strength of a normal fighting character. IC: Shadow Wolf slowly recovered from the attack, to see Balthazar draining energies from Eve, killing her slowly. A small bolt of energy was enough to interrupt him, and catch his attention again. "Nobody's dying by your hands, Ballhair." "Keep calling me that, outsider, and you will end up dead." "Oh, but I intend to be the one that's alive after this mess." Balthazar shot a mass of lightning bolts at Shadow Wolf. OOC: maybe. but then Shadow Wolf is an escape artist and remember that only he and Kel-Aziz can actually kill Balthazar: Shadow Wolf being from another world, and Kel-Aziz being a Darubian Royal Guard... thing. IC: "Yo Namothil and Firedrake, keep Kel-Aziz busy. I'll take Ballhair (OOC: indirect taunt at Balthazar, duh). The rest of you, try to take out the portal!" The party set to action. While Balthazar was preparing a spell, Shadow Wolf disappeared. As Balthazar quickly scried the area for him, the blademaster reappeared behind him, and delivered two fast slashes and a jab, damaging Balthazar's shielding. "Why... Why?!" was Balthazar's response. "I'm not exactly from this world, mage. Neither are my skills and weapons." Shadow Wolf leaped back to dodge a powerful Kill spell at point blank range, then spun Silentstriker to deflect a blast of firebolts. One managed to hit him, knocking him to the ground. "I know how to deal with threats like you." Balthazar then tried casting the Life Control spell on Shadow Wolf again... OOC: remember, SW's friend Din is still up in the skies around the tower, in an armed piece of aircraft. IC: All the random spells Balthazar has cast has created some sort of instability in the room. There was a shroud of mixed magical energies around the mage king, and a non-physical projectile would either kill or maim him. On the other hand, he could be blown out of the tower, with an easy escape if Din would not be able to shoot him down. But for now, it's a critical weakness - one that would last no more than a minute. A Soul Lance formed on his hand... Soul fail me not, Shadow Wolf said to himself. "Or this may be the only oppurtunity that I got!" As if time itself were slowed, the bluish lance of energy soared through the air, right at the shroud of unstable energy. What could have been a bone-shattering shockwave turned into a strong gust of magical but harmless wind that blew his hair back violently and made him stagger back a few paces, nothing more.
