In year 201 of the Imperial Era, Viceroy I ascended to the Imperial Throne. He faced harsh internal struggle and resistance from the powerful houses of Pralgrad. Neither a Sol nor an Ironclad, Viceroy was doomed from the start. To his credit, he lasted three years before he was assassinated by a disaffected guardsman in the pay of Bogdan Kesh, an general in the Imperial Army and a cousin of Viceroy I. Kesh was detained and executed by a few remaining loyalists, while the rest of Pralgrad plotted to take the throne. Ironclad I, the previous Emperor, had dispatched an Imperial Army to Aizo to finish its return to the Empire. News does not travel quickly between continents. While rounding up the remaining North-Aizoan resistance, the troops there have begun to settle in, and they're expecting a few boatloads of colonists to arrive by the end of the year. All the while, the Aizoan Front of the Imperial Army are oblivious to the passing of Ironclad and Viceroy. Still loyal to Ironclad I, the general in command is determined to subdue the native resistance and return victorious to Pralgrad. Meanwhile, on Pralgrad, the house Sol has solidified in support of Brigadier-General Jehan Sol, a thirty-something career military man with a quick tongue and a clever wit. Playing to the sympathies of the nearby towns, he quickly wrapped up their support for his candidacy. Controlling the northwest section of Pralgrad and much of its rich mines, the house Sol may indeed come to the throne once more. However, they will have to get through the Ironclads and their choice for Emperor, Gideon Ironclad. Not the brightest tool in the shed, Gideon Ironclad is backed up by a council of advisors who make most of his decisions, and he's been gaining control of eastern Pralgrad. The bulk of the Imperial Army supports Gideon, and they are building infrastructure to withstand heavy onslaughts from all sides. Not all Ironclads support the puppet-Emperor - a small but influential group has split off to support Dorian Kylen, an illegitimate grandson of Ironclad I. Kylen was a councilor to the late Viceroy I, and his business acumen and keen sense of opportunity have enabled him to appeal to the growers in southwest and central Pralgrad, who have been able to give him legitimacy and enough support to seize the capital city in the aftermath of Viceroy's assassination. He personally ordered the beheading of Bogdan Kesh, and although he controls the capital currently, a large assault would easily breach the outer walls of the city and lead to nasty urban warfare. The Sailor's Association for Free Trade (SAFT) has profited in the recent years, and their membership has increased significantly. Merchants deal with them and rely on them to ensure that their goods are sold. All three sides count on them to deliver supplies when they need them. So far, they have not been forced onto one side or another. Recently, however, the Solarans have begun to set up blockades, and SAFT ships have been stopped, and even commandeered. As war wages, staying neutral becomes a much harder task. It is now 211 IE, seven years after Viceroy I's unfortunate death. Everyone on Pralgrad will be embroiled in the conflict no matter that they do. It has even grabbed you. ==== Notes: Mages are extremely rare, as the Empire controlled all pursuit of magical knowledge. Iron is the best metal for weapons and armor, and it is expensive. Almost everyone is a member of a faction, and your character is supposed to be. The leader of a faction may control all of its members temporarily. The faction leaders are: Solarans: Drakefyre Kylens: Alec Ironclads: Sir David? Aizoan Front: Omlette SAFT: Premonition A useful map: -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Vahnatai Did Do It desperance.net - We're Everywhere The Arena - God Will Sort The Dead ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! General Corim Warderson is the commanding officer of the invasion of Aizo. At first, the invasion went well. Aizo was divided up into lots of small, warring factions, and when the Imperial army arrived, they were unable to settle their differences fast enough to stop the Imperial heavy infantry walking all over their armies. Now, however, things are very different. For one thing, the Imperial invasion has served to cull away the bad leaders. The few remaining Aizoan generals are all survivors, as are their armies. The Aizoans have gathered their forces together under one leader, known as King Aizoim. Aizoim's forces favour lizard cavalry and archers, which has made them very hard to deal with in Aizo's wooded interior. Corim has established cities along the northern shore of Aizo, inhabited mainly by military personnel. Scouting parties now seek to track down the location of the elusive Aizoim. Meanwhile, the native scouting parties are wreaking havoc with Imperial efforts to set up farms, attacking, destroying, and leaving before Imperial garrisons can respond. Most of the General's hope, though, lies with his mages. Only a few Imperial mages came with the army, and their use in the field was limited until now, but the General keeps them busy as constantly as he dares, scrying the inside of Aizo, looking for traces of the native defenders. Much attention is also focussed on the new shipyards. Few of the Imperial ships survived the crossing intact, and although the sailors have made basic repairs, the General deemed it wise to build proper shipyards to make sure the ships were in perfect condition before they set off for Pralgad. This process now looks to be completed well before the army is ready to leave. Those who wish to join this faction must be one of the following: A soldier in the Imperial army. The majority of the army is heavy infantry, trained mainly to fight with spears, supported by archers. There are also a few knights (in the order of 2-300), although very little of Aizo is proper horse terrain. If you want to be slightly more specialised, you could be a scout or something. If you want to be a mage, there are a very few mages in the army, as mentioned above. PCs may be officers-suitable ranks would be sergeant or captain. The army's command staff comprises 3 Majors and 1 Colonel, in addition to the General. These are all NPCs. One of the army's train. For this, you could be absolutely anything-provisioner, animal handler, blacksmith, spy-about the only thing you can't be is a warrior, as you'd have been drafted into the army long ago. A native Aizoan. Either a member of one of the factions who capitulated to Imperial rule, in which case you can be just about anything, or a defecter from Aizoim's army, in which case you'd be either a lizard cavalier or an archer, pretty much. And you'd better have a good IC reason for the defection. Lastly, please can no-one play a character loyal to Aizoim, since I'm going to be the one deciding what his followers do. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! I'd like it more if people played smaller characters that would actually be involved in the conflict, rather than commanders that just sit back and order - that's my job. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Vahnatai Did Do It desperance.net - We're Everywhere The Arena - God Will Sort The Dead ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! I don't think I should join. Even though I hear that Avernum is basically the same thing as Exile, I never played one of the games for Avernum yet. So it might be beyond my talents. If you think my writing style is worthy, let me know, as I am slightly afraid to give it a try, having no idea what the series is like. -------------------- "Keep your wits about you, the game is afoot!" - Sherlock Holmes Mrs. Peacock: "Everything all right?" Please note that the basis of the plot is in *i's plot arc, NOT the Avernum series (which indeed = Exile), and unless Drakey feels like being a fascist, it probably won't follow that way exactly. -------------------- ¡Viva Chile! ¡Viva el Pueblo! ¡Vivan los Trabajadores! Yeah I think I'll join SAFT, is Premonition a member, or does it mean the definition? I would like to know if there are any important rules I need for creating a character, besides the ones listed? Edit: I don't think anyone answered my question so I will post my character. Name: Allos Nogan Age: 34 Description: A veteran pirate, Allos used to be part of a crew of bandits, until they engaged in a losing battle against a strong group of Nephilim. Allos and a few of his partners retreated and made a living as mercinaries. Appearance: Average hight of 5'8, normal military strength. Allos has black hair and green eyes. Strengths: Very good with throwing weapons, especially the fransica and dagger. Allos does not fight for honor, only victory. He will use dirty fighting techniques to get the job done. Allos does possess some skill in close combat, but his weapons are not fit for it. Story: After the complications, SAFT wanted to make sure that its workers and sailors would be safer. They hired a few mercinaries skilled with sailing, hence why Allos is there. The mercinaries have been ordered to take more evasive and defensive manuvers if combat arouses. (The leader can change this if he or she sees fit.) I don't like the chart I used to make my character but I dont really have time right now. OOC: I think that being in the Keylan faction sounds the most interesting to me. I have an idea for a character, but I need its approval. IC: Name: Petoria Carmine / Nickname: (Peters) Faction: Kylen supporter Occupation: Sage / Herbalist / Witch Height: 6'1'' / Weight: 134 lbs. Age: 47 Eye Color: Gray Hair Color: Dark Brown Stamina: Above average for her age / Build: Somewhat muscular Weapons: A duel pair of shiny iron short swords and a blowpipe with lots of poison darts Clothing: Brown robes with black edges and inside lining, a black shawl or bonnet over her head, blue boots (who knows), yellow-dyed gloves Demeanor: Cautious, alert, perfectionist, cold-blooded killer during a battle or private revenge, kind old woman to most, lithe for her age Strengths: Very wise and cautious, good leader to some, never gives up under normal circumstances, vicious fighter, caring person most of the time, willing to be a martyr for some things Weaknesses: Short temper, sometimes too cautious and perfectionistic, holds grudges and never forgets until she gets revenge, obsessive indecision, has a sarcastic attitude with authority figures, extremely lethargic at times OOC: I hope she is all right. She has some magic powers, but they are very, very limited. None of her spells are strong enough to kill. Almost immediately, the Kylenians took the initiative, moving to attack the passes over the Central Range -- still in Ironclad control, but well-distant from their armies. With control of these passes, the Kylenians will have effective control of east-west movement through Pralgrad. Taking them should not be too hard -- after all, their defenses are oriented towards brigands; and even though there are brigands better-equipped than the Kylenian levee, and brigands better-trained and organized, there are certainly none as numerous... -------------------- ¡Viva Chile! ¡Viva el Pueblo! ¡Vivan los Trabajadores! (OOC: You don't have to have your character approved, as long as they're properly balanced.) Solaran forces have begun to build in the mountains to the south and east of Solaria, the home city of the house Sol. The troop movements have not gone unnoticed, but so far they have not made any offensive moves. At the moment, they're constructing intense fortifications on the outskirts of Solaran cities, which has most people feeling much more secure.
