I emailed AmbrosiaSW a while ago, and I believe they said that they use Mac CodeWarrior... anyone know anything about that?

If C++ is good for 3D graphics and "anything cool like that", then I'm definitely going with it. I have Morgan's problems (procrastination and short attention span), too, but hey. I'm an optimist, I figure I can overcome any problem. =]

I agree, I agree. Even though I have nothing to do with weapons of any sort, unless duct tape counts (which it should).

I can't think of anyone who was canned, and then uncanned )aside from being banned or getting some worse title)... has that ever happened? I'm sure it must've...

Considering the events of the past few days, Emperor Gideon Ironclad was pretty well off.
The captain-archer was obviously an Ironclad sympathizer; the guards decided that the sick captain didn't really exist. The captain-archer, after putting the Emperor and his men in the best quarters available, with the best food available cooked by the best cooks available, told the Ironcladists that they would be taken to Vida, after a stop to pick up a shipment. Of what, he wouldn't say; but the guards got the feeling that it involved weapons of some sort, and that the Emperor was safer on this ship than he would be anywhere else.

And, being members of the SAFT, these sailors knew pretty much everything that was going on. The Emperor heard about Sullust's success in the south, about the Kylenian and Solaran invasions, and, most importantly, about the Populist uprising. At this news, the Ironcladists smiled. The Emperor had lost most of his power, and the Solarans and Kylenians were in control of most of Pralgrad. But their plans had backfired; they had preached discontent and rebellion, and their supporters were those who wanted quick change. Now that they understood that, whichever faction won, they would be stuck with an emperor, these rebels were not happy. The Populist rebellion, they told Gideon Ironclad, was mainly made up of former Kylenian and Solaran supporters. The Ironcladists were people who wanted an emperor, people who did not see the need for change. So when the Populist revolution began, the Ironcladists did not even consider joining. Emperor Gideon Ironclad saw this new faction as a double edged sword; sure, he had already lost most of his support, but now he did not have as far to fall. Sol and Kylen did, and the Populists were the grease on the increasingly slippery slope.

"We will stop in the night, sir," the captain told Gideon Ironclad. "You should get sleep now."
And he did; while the majority of his men stayed up, warily watching the shore and the sailors all around them, the Emperor slept on a bed fit for, well, and Emperor. He almost forgot he was on a ship, until he was woken up hours later.
"My liege," said the guard by his bed. "My liege."
"What..."
Gideon Ironclad wearily lifted his head, then sat straight up.
"Where am - oh. Right. Why did you wake me up?"
"We've docked. Crandall wants to see you."
"Who?"
"Crandall. The archer. Captain. Whatever he is."
"Oh..." sighed the Emperor. "Tell him to wait till tomorrow."
"I did. He says he needs you now. We won't be docked long."
Gideon Ironclad yawned. "Light a candle. Where's my cloak?"
"Right here, my liege," said the guard, giving it to him. "It's not too cold."
The Emperor yawned again, stood, put the cloak on, and walked towards the door. As he stepped onto the deck, his men formed a protective circle around him.
"Ah, there you are, sir. Come along, please, we are going ashore."
"For how long? What is the meaning of this?"
"Oh, there's somethign interesting you might want to see," said Crandall, smiling mysteriously. "We won't be a moment. And after this we will sail straight on to see Vida."
"Thank you," Ironclad said, yawning, not quite paying attention. "We'll see her tomorrow?"
"Yes, sir. Ah, there they are. Let's go."

OOC: Yeah, I have no idea what this audience is about, but there I am, ready for FZ's or Arancaytar's next post.

Thuryl: I don't believe in infinite purposes in teh physical world, no. I believe there is another... dimension, I guess you would say, in which Heaven exists. There, there is infinity; infinite time, infinite bliss, that sort of thing. But not in these three dimensions, in this physical world.

At times like this, I really wish I could express myself better...

It would seem that the purpose of life is to reproduce, but that really helps nothing. I mean, the new generation just has the same thing to do, and it goes on and on... basically, an infinite purpose, with no final goal. I don't really believe in infinite purposes. But I also do not know what the purpose of life is. I believe in God, and I figure he knows what's going on; I don't, and I can't, so I'm not going to worry about it. I agree with BtI on that.

The man Sullust had sent on ahead reached the remnants of the Ironclad cavalry just as Sullust himself ducked under the Kylenian's arrows. They rode as hard as the could to the river, but by the time they reached it, the battle was over; Sullust was victorious. They joined Sullust and his men and aided them in mopping up the remaining Kylens by that section of the river.
By that time, news of the current events had reached the Kylenian river guard. From the derisive taunts of several captured and dying Kylenian soldiers, Sullust understood what was happening in Pralgrad. His loyalty to the Emperor overrode all other reactions to the news; he immediately sent the cavalry off to complete the isolation and destruction of Kylen's river forces. Sullust himself rode south with the rest of his men, to secure Lord Dekker's land against revolution and invasion.

*****

Meanwhile, Gideon Ironclad was not faring so well. He and his men had quickly outdistanced the tired Kylenians, but they knew that when they reached the east coast, they were trapped. They all considered it a gift of the gods when General Hugo broke off the pursuit; even more so when they realized that they now had a means of direct communication with the SAFT.
"My liege! Look! Open your eyes, we're safe! Look!"
"What is that... a boat... two boats..."
"It's the SAFT! That little boat is just a fishing vessel, but the bigger ship out there is one of the SAFT's 'merchants'," said the guard. "Quick, let's see if we can get on that fishing boat."
The Emperor and his guards reached the shore just as the fishing ship was being pulled up by three strong men. When they saw the Emperor they cried out in surprise and bowed low, dropping their nets and oars; the Emperor quickly found himself sitting in the middle of a small, rickety rowboat, with four guards around him, two rowing. Hugging himself to keep warm, Gideon Ironclad tried to decide which was better; a terrified horse, or this. He quickly decided that nothing could be worse than a boat, and only kept himself still by reminding himself that the boat was wobbling enough already, without him moving. Before long, the little boat had drawn up alongside the SAFT ship, and many arrows were trained directly on the Emperor.
"Friend or foe?" cried a sailor.
"Do we have a choice?" yelled a guard. "Help us up!"
The guards and the Emperor were soon standing on deck, the Emperor shivering in the wind.
"What brings you here, sir?" inquired a man who appeared to be the leader of the archers.
"A little more respect -" began a guard.
"Quiet. You are on my ship," interrupted the man in a voice that sounded almost polite.
"Where is your captain?" asked the Emperor.
"Sick. I serve in his place for now."
"Right then. What do you want?"
"Sorry?"
"What do you want?"
"I don't follow you, sir."
"My empire has been pulled out from under me, my council has defected to Kylen, and these men, along with those on the shore, are the only ones I know I can trust. You have ships, you have men, you can help. You refused before because you assumed that I would simply make the SAFT another part of the bureaucracy. Now I do not even have that option, and the question is, what do you want?"
"I think we'd better ask Vida about this..." said the sailor, with obvious sympathy for the Emperor's plight. "Are you being chased?"
"Not at the momentl they turned aside."
"Maybe you should get the rest of your men on board. I'll send some boats to shore for them."
The Emperor turned to his guard. "Is this wise?"
"We hardly have a choice, at this point, my liege," replied the guard. "Even if we wanted to go back to shore, I'm not sure we could; you may have lost most of your power, but I don't think the SAFT would pass up this oppurtunity. Anyway, it could very well work out for the better. I saw the sympathy in that man's eyes."
"Very well then."
The Emperor and his men were led to elaborate cabins; Gideon Ironclad assumed that he was now in the quarters of the sick captain, if that man even existed. The fishing boat was returned to the fishers, who became a local legend, and the SAFT ship sent out another boat to get another "merchant" to take over guarding the coast while the ship with Gideon Ironclad aboard set off at full speed towards Vida's headquarters.

OOC: Argh. Sorry for the quality, or lack thereof, of this post. I'm going to break my one-post-a-day rule tomorrow so I can make up for it.

"Emperor, Emperor Ironclad, my liege, Emperor, quick, we need to - Emperor, let's go, they're -"
"Erland, calm down and tell me what's going on!"
"They're here!"
"Who?"
"Kylen!" screamed Erland, his voice rising in terror.
"Who? Kylen? Here? What? Where's my council?"
"They're coming! Oh, God, oh, put this on, we need to -"
"Erland, calm down!" snapped Gideon Ironclad. This news shocked him; he had never even heard the reports of Kylen's initial invasion. But, to him, the boy's hysteria was a bit excessive.
"How close is Kylen? Where's my council? What are they doing? Who's defending? What's going on?"
"He's here! We need to go!" screamed the boy.
"Well, help me get my boots on, at least -"
"Let's go!"
"Guard!"
Two men came running.
"Where are the rest of you?"
"Fighting, exalted sir. They council disbanded them, but they're still fighting. We stayed to protect you."
"The council what?"
"Disbanded them, my liege! The council plans to surrender to Kylen!"
"What?"
"Quickly, exalted sir, we must get out of here before Blackstone is taken."
"Are there horses for us? Where do we go? Erland!"
"Yes, my liege?"
"The council is surrendering to Kylen?"
"Yes! I heard it from Lord Janson himself! He plans to work with Kylen until the soldiers return from Aizo, and then to somehow get their support to take over the Empire himself!"
"You said he would do this, didn't you."
"I don't know! Let's go!"
Emperor Gideon Ironclad, along with his page Erland and two of the Imperial Guard, ran to the stables. Outside they could hear and see the battle; arrows clattered against the stone, and shouts of victory and cries of bloody defeat ran through the city. With his guards' help, the Emperor scrambled on top of his beautiful white horse. He had always been terrified of horses, but even Gideon Ironclad had the sense to control his fear when faced with a greater danger. The guards quickly mounted two other horses, and one pulled Erland up beside him.
"Wouldn't it be safer to stay inside the city?"
"No, my liege, not if the council has betrayed you."
"Oh, right... would my men fight for me, or for the council?"
"Let's not find out! Yah!"
The three horses lept forward at their riders' commands. The stable boy turned to watch the Emperor ride out, out towards the gate and towards the battle, but did nothing. Seeing their Emperor desperately hanging on to a galloping white horse, straight towards the battle, gave some of the city dwellers hope; the rest, it drove into despair.

As they neared the battle, the Emperor began to see the sights one usually find in war; decapitated bodies, horses twisted into impossible shapes on the ground, bloody, mangled suits of armor with a bit of meat left inside. Here, his lack of horse-knowledge quite possibly saved his life; he could not make his mount stop, only his guards could, and they forced him to press on into the carnage. They veered off to the right when they got through the gate; Gideon Ironclad had his eyes closed, by this point, and was trying to decide why the gods had never given people a way to close their nostrils while hanging onto the hair of beasts that constantly tried to throw their riders off. Neither the carrion-stench nor the action of riding a horse appealed to him; yet he was forced to endure both, in order to save his ill-protected neck.
"Gods damn it, no!" he heard, somehow, above the din. He briefly opened his eyes to see his general, Karadas, sending men after him.
'So the council has him, too,' the Emperor thought, misinterpreting their purpose.
His guards did not. They turned themselves, and therefore the Emperor's horse, towards Karadas' men; the Ironclad soldiers intercepted Kylen's cadre yards away from the Emperor, and battle was joined.
"What are they doing!" yelled the Emperor.
"Come, my liege! We must hurry!" responded one of his guards, the one Erland was sitting with.
At that moment, an arrow sailed overhead; the Emperor ducked, and it flew into Erland's neck.
"No!" screamed the Emperor, watching the boy's stricken face, watching the blood run down his formerly clean tunic. "No! No!"
"Come, my liege!" yelled the guard, letting go of the page's body. "We are -"
As the Emperor watched in horror, a spear flew out of nowhere and implaed the guard's horse; the guard was thrown headfirst into the fray, where he was trampled, screaming. Completely losing control, Gideon Ironclad directed his horse towards the dead guard.
"No! Leave him!" shouted a man in Ironclad armor. "He is dead, we must go!"
The Kylens had been killed by Karadas' men, but more were coming from the main battle. The Ironclads fanned out around the Emperor, with the remaining Imperial guard directly in front of him. The white horse, eyes rolling in terror; followed the guard's horse at a gallop.
"Where are we going?" screamed the Emperor, at this point just as terrified as his horse. Either his voice was lost in the wind, or the guard simply ignored him; either way, Emperor Gideon Ironclad was on to a large white horse, hanging on for his life, while an Imperial Guard and a contingent of Imperial Knights rode protectively around him off into the countryside, closely persued by a slightly larger force of Kylenians. For the moment, the Ironclad reign was ended.

Yeah, I'm hoping to rediscover the joys too... I've been watching home videos of myself when I was younger, and I simply cannot believe how easily pleased I was. I wish very much that I could go back to that...

Anyway, I got a crash cymbal (and splash cymbal, eventually), brushes (the drumstick kind), the ROTK CD (again, oh well), candy, gloves, a marble chess set, money, a book whose title I cannot remember... stuff... other stuff... yeah...

...And then the whole family and friends aspect, which is pretty much the whole point of Christmas, to me.

"Damn the Emperor," muttered Lord Janson, as quietly as possible.
"We cannot build a navy ourseves, perhaps," he said to the council in a more audible voice, "But there are those who can. Not all shipwrights are under the Empire's control, or the control of the Kylens or the Solarans, or of the Sailor's Association. But all are under the control of gold," continued Lord Janson, looked at the other assembled lords. "If we cannot order the construction of a navy, we must pay for it."
"Pay who?" asked Lord Grandin. "Are there any neutral shipwrights with the ability to give us a passable navy before Kylen's fleet is finished?"
"We can find them," replied Lord Janson. "We will find them, and if we cannot, we can always make them neutral. Remember, Kylen controls many waterside towns; money can often break alliegance, and when it cannot, a show of arms can. And anyway, some of our eastern towns and cities have the ability, if not the resources, to construct warships. Why, our friends up north ((what's that island called?)) have been building sizable ships for years; we can send a message up there, and the Emperor can hardly protest the refitting or building of those docks."
"True," replied Lord Bahrain. "You are right. The Emperor's sudden interest in the war has already lost us our cavalry, but it will not lose us a navy. We have the resources, we will soon have the docks, and we have the will; before long, we will have the sea, whether the Emperor wills it or not."
"Yes, well spoken," drawled Lord Janson. "Speaking of our cavalry, I wonder how they fare down south?"

*****

As he spoke, the remnants of the cavalry were making their way north. The leading knight had found a riderless horse wandering near the river; he recognized it as the horse of a dead comrade. He sent a rider galloping off to the north while he and his men followed slowly behind; he had no idea when Sullust would need him.

Unfortunately, Sullust had no idea either. He was in Lord Dekker's fortress, speaking with the man's steward, Forhault. From the tales he had heard of Lord Dekker, Sullust had expected the steward to be just as great. He was not. Forhault was, to put it kindly, an idiot. Sullust did not put it kindly. Speaking in hushed, intense tones in the privacy of his chambers, Sullust uttered many curses that his men had never heard before; their ears were ringing before their leader's tirade had ended.
"How could Forhault," Sullust said, almost spitting the name, "be so goddammed useless? The fate of the Empire could rest on his shoulders, and what does he say? 'Not enough food, sir. Not enough tents, sir. Not enough brains, sir.'" Sullust mocked. "By every god imaginable, how can he be so stupid?"
Sullust had cooled down considerably from his original tirade; the men were almsot relieved. He had arrived at the fortress this very morning, and had demanded to speak to the steward. It was now early evening of the same day, and he had made no progress whatsoever.
"What will the knights think? What will the Emperor think? We've got to get these people in motion. They are needed for a quick burst of strength, one hard blow to knock the Kylens flying, to cut them off from their traitorous leader back home; we do not need them for a long campaign. This is a battle, not a war. I don't know whether that moron of a steward just has the wrong kind of experience, or if his ego does not permit him to think of anything in terms other than that of a grand, glorious campaign. Ah, dammit, if he won't help, there must be someone in this lump of rock worthy of calling himself human," finished Sullust, stepping out into the hall in search of such a human. His men followed close behind.

Yeah, "go-old" just sounds bad. And why does "golden" have to imply lower quality? I mean, what is a gold ring's coloring? Pinkish? Reddish? I'd say "golden" is the correct word for the coloring of a gold ring...
