Ooh, pretty. I might just find a use for that fungal golem graphic in my scenario, too. Thanks for the effort.

HDs are HDs everywhere, I'm afraid. Anything with lots of moving parts will sometimes break.

Yes, I am using a Mac, with OSX 10.3.8. I have been using Appleworks (which I dislike, but hey, it's free; can you recommend a better free program?) and ResEdit (running in Classic).
AppleWorks may well be your problem; others have had similar issues with it before. Tried GraphicConverter? It has a nag screen but is otherwise free.

I'm assuming you're using a Mac, since you use the 3D editor. It'd be useful to know what graphics editor you're using to make the graphics, and what resource editor you're using to insert them. (I've had trouble with ResEdit lately and prefer ResFool .)

By the way, if you haven't done so already, be sure to submit your floors to the Louvre once you get them working.

Yeah, the Sorceror plotline is generally regarded as by far the weakest. Give the Bodyguard one a go.

What, those don't count as "anyone"? If it's not on SW's site and it's not one of the exceptions mentioned in the FAQ, then as far as we know it hasn't been released. There isn't a secret designers' club where we hide all the best scenarios and keep anyone from playing them.

Sounds like the first thing you need to do is kill your allies. There comes a point where they hold you back more than they help you.

There's far more to be gained by optimising your party design than by optimising your equipment anyway.

You mentioned that you're using a level-39 Guardian, didn't you? For IGU, that's on the low side. If there's anything else in the game that you can do to earn more experience and haven't done yet, do it first.

You might also consider using a weapon that does better damage, so you can actually kill your opponents efficiently instead of stunning one at a time.

Tailoring Scenario Level in Blades of Avernum Editor

There are basically three things you need to keep in balance:

1) keeping the power of available equipment and spells appropriate for the difficulty of the scenario's combat
2) keeping the power of available equipment comparable to the power of available spells
3) keeping the power of available equipment and spells comparable to those in other scenarios targeted at the same level

Number 1 is easiest and simply requires playtesting with a fairly standard party (as a standard, I recommend using BoA's premade party, raised to an appropriate level with the HLPM).

Number 2 is trickier, and requires using a variety of parties -- ideally, a party with 1 fighter and 3 spellcasters should be able to perform comparably to a party with 3 fighters and 1 spellcaster, unless your scenario's setting requires favouring a particular party build.

Number 3 requires taking a look at other people's scenarios targeted at a similar party level and making sure what you're putting in your scenario isn't too far above or below what they've put in theirs.

But the DMCA is an abominably pernicious threat to society! And laws are generally too much of a bother to examine or use aggressively.

Regarding the DMCA, are you really suggesting we refrain from taking advantage of an established law purely as a matter of principle? That's like saying an anti-gun activist shouldn't defend himself if he happens to be attacked while the only weapon readily available for his defence is a gun.

Regarding having to examine the law to figure out what we need to do, there's no real need; we can easily adapt the boilerplate from one of the many, many DMCA complaints against Google. Just do a Google search on, say, "xenu" or "kazaa lite" and check the bottom of the page.

I've heard it originally came from a quality certification symbol that was printed on crates of US Army supplies. Given the number of colloquial English words and phrases that started out as army slang, this at least passes the plausibility test.

hella = "large amounts of".

Well, either that or he was labouring under the impression that the nation of Greece was ruled by Avernites.

Kelandon: You only have the right to ask me to remove your articles. Ask me that, and I'll remove them.
Actually, DreamGuy is correct; even though scripts are derivative works, Kelandon still holds copyright over his own contributions to them. You probably don't have the right to distribute the HLPM either; giving SW a non-exclusive right to distribute a scenario doesn't imply that he's required to give others the same right. Even if you were legally in the right in distributing these materials, it's still a damned rude thing to do so against their creator's wishes.

Honestly, assuming Kel will agree to it, why not just accept Stareye's compromise? Provide outside links to the content so that Kel has control of it without having to chase you up if he releases a new version of something.

Vesuvius is a really big volcano that may or may not erupt at some point in the relatively near future. There's also an even bigger volcano under Yellowstone National Park that may or may (EDIT: or, then again, may not) erupt at some point in the relatively near future.

Water Exchange Code Check in Blades of Avernum Editor

I'm pretty sure he was trying to set the variable, not the short, but put them the wrong way round.

EDIT: Come to think of it, there should probably be a line in there somewhere to remove the empty skin special items, or it's possible to continue getting full skins indefinitely.

Also, there's one more problem with your script that comes from BoA's terminally brain-damaged handling of the run_dialog call. Choice number zero returns 1, choice number one returns 2, and so on.

A modified script with all suggested corrections implemented is below.

beginstate 20;
if (has_special_item(1) >= 1) {
reset_dialog();
add_dialog_str(0,"Fill up your empty waterskins?",0);
add_dialog_choice(0,"Fill");
add_dialog_choice(1,"Leave");
water_choice = run_dialog(0);
if (water_choice == 1) {
empty_skins = has_special_item(1);
change_spec_item(0,empty_skins);
change_spec_item(1,(empty_skins * -1));
empty_skins = 0;
print_str_color("Skins filled.",2);
}
}
