Leaving town via the character editor occasionally has unfortunate side effects. Sadly, it seems that you've run into one of them. Pity, really; you could have just done without the Thought Crystal. I do wish I could bring you better news. It might be possible to salvage the situation using, uh, nefarious means which we're not really supposed to talk about on these forums. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Linux is famous for having versions for almost any hardware, including Intel, PowerPC, palmtop computers, and even toasters. (Okay, maybe not toasters.) You won't need to buy a new computer to run Linux. There's nothing preventing you from having Windows and Linux on the same computer at the same time, either. It does take a fair bit of technical knowledge, though. (Knowledge which I don't have, so don't ask for my help on how exactly to do it. :P ) [ Saturday, December 10, 2005 00:43: Message edited by: Thuryl ] -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! One could make the case that if national security relies so heavily on keeping secrets, the nation isn't very secure anyway, because secrets have a tendency of getting out in time regardless of any efforts to the contrary. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! #2: a duty for whom? Obviously a society isn't going to function if everyone (or even every able-bodied young adult) suddenly pulls up sticks and joins the army, so it can't be a duty for everybody. #3 is pretty vague. Pretty much everyone thinks rape should be illegal, so I assume the scope of the question is meant to be restricted to consensual acts? (Of course, then you get to the curly question of what constitutes consent, especially when animals are involved.) Okay, I'm done nitpicking for now. We've had the discussion about lossless JPEG before. The JPEG 2000 standard (which supports lossless compression) isn't well-supported, and regular JPEG at 100% quality isn't lossless. Just say no to JPEG. GIF is hardly better, though, especially if your image editor spontaneously decides to use dithering to turn a perfectly good white background into a mess of white and pale grey. PNG is the way of the future. [ Friday, December 09, 2005 14:54: Message edited by: Thuryl ] -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! There are Mac emulators, but I'm not aware of any which Avernum 4 would run decently on. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Your scenarios folder is in the same folder as the Blades of Avernum application. On a Mac, it should be called "Blades of Avernum Scenarios". I don't know what it's called on Windows, but it'll have "scen" or "scenario" in its name. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! To play a custom scenario, just download it, then put the entire folder containing the scenario inside your Blades of Avernum Scenarios folder. Then, open up Blades of Avernum, load a party, click Enter Scenario, select the scenario you want to play, and you're all set. By the way, before you play, open up the folder containing the scenario you're playing and check to see if there's any kind of readme file inside (it'll be called "Read Me", "readme.txt", or some variation thereof.) Most scenarios have one, and most scenario authors get annoyed if you don't read it and then go to the forums asking questions that are answered in the readme. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Registration information for Exile 1 is contained in the misc.dat file. If you transfer it without the misc.dat file included, you don't transfer the registration status of the game, so the receiver has to put his old misc.dat file in the folder to make it registered. I'm not giving away any big secrets by saying this, by the way. It's all in the documentation. I'm still wondering why you would ever have occasion to put anything other than a break; after a set_state call, thus making it a moot point. :P [ Wednesday, December 07, 2005 16:24: Message edited by: Thuryl ] -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! RoR wasn't one of them, actually. The only thing that ended up being ported was the outdoors; everything else had to be pretty much completely remade. :P The only true ports have been VoDT, ASR, ZKR and 9VOPB, and even those have been modified a fair bit. It was better from versions 1 to 4, before it started making too many ludicrous "improvements". The implementation of 3D dungeons was the point at which it all started to go downhill, I think. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! I mean, it's Arabic so there's a bit of laxity allowed in the transliteration -- "bin Laden" or "bin Ladin" are okay, but "ben Ladden" is a bit beyond the pale. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Yeah; the documentation is really misleading about what the difference actually is between set_state and set_state_continue. As far as I'm aware, set_state_continue working regardless of the state it's called in is correct behaviour. I'm not actually sure when you'd ever need or want to use set_state instead of set_state_continue. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure!
