Avernum isn't 3D, it's isometric. Also, I hate Avernum's graphics. I like Exile's graphics, personally. It's a matter of preference, really. I agree with Eldibs about Scott's and Johnson's voices. Their lyrical styles are also similar, yet different. From what I gather, the biggest difference, in terms of their music and personas, is that Scott had a much stronger "bad boy" image. The liner notes for the Back In Black album say that Scott basically gave his approval of Johnson when he saw him in a concert, actually. I don't understand why some people think Johnson ruined AC/DC. Johnson wrote Back In Black, which I hear from some friends I have who are in bands is fun to play, and Let Me Put My Love Into You, which is my favorite AC/DC song. In terms of "longevity", though, The Rolling Stones recently released a new album. I hear it flopped. My favorite classical composer is Franz Schubert, by far. He wrote some very good melodies. So far, I've heard Die Forelle, the Trout Quintet, the Arpeggione Sonata, the unfinished 8th Symphony, and Music of Moments. I loved every single movement. I enjoyed Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and 5th Symphony as well, but not as much as those Schubert works I mentioned. Perhaps just Romantic music in general, but those are the only two I know are classified as Romantic. Schubert definitely though. On the other hand, I hate J.S. Bach. He's terrible. It sounds like random notes strung together. No rhythm or melody at all. Gut-wrenching to listen to. I don't understand why he's so popular. Probably for the same reason people eat truffles (the fungus that supposedly tastes like dirt): so they can say they have a "distinguished taste". Distinguished tastes suck. I listen to everything but Baroque and salsa, pretty much. I even listen to grindcore. As for non-classical composers, I don't have a particular favorite. TMBG, The Beatles, and Pete Townshend of The Who are pretty high up there, I guess. First off, Mormon = Christian, but Christian != Mormon. There are many, many types of Christians, and Mormons are among the most laughed at of them all by people who are not Mormons. Combine it with poor typing skills, poor grammar, and blissfully ignorant youth, and you get a situation in which TM (an atheist, by the way) laughs at you. It's quite clear I, Brett Bixler, am the most awesome member of the community, due to my perfect member number. My father (or it might have been his friend, I'm not sure) once told me that if you call someone on the phone and say the words "President", "assassinate", and "kill" in the same conversation, the FBI will come to your house and arrest you. This was several years before the WTC attacks. He was joking, of course, but I wouldn't doubt it nowadays, what with Bush's illegal, secret spying on innocent Americans. That George W. Bush deserves to be drawn and feathered, tarred at the stake, and burnt and quartered. Iaqqy Nem Yaer! My mother has a compost pile next to her garden in the back yard. Sometimes we find various forms of squash or potatoes growing out of it. One year, my mother was growing zucchini, and it ended up interbreeding with the pumpkins that started growing out of the compost pile (from the Halloween pumpkin seeds). We ended up with this vegetable that looked like a gigantic zucchini, but when we cut it open, the inside was orange. We called it a pumpkini. It was tasty. Do you make any form of art, be it audial, visual, textual, or something else? Here's your chance to show off! I think there was recently a thread here about poetry, but I don't think it went beyond that, and I can't find it going back a few pages anyway, so I figure it must have been long enough ago that I could get away with making a new thread. I made a bunch of stuff. I posted several samples of my audial art on Polaris, but there's not much interest there. I put that up to the fact that Polaris loses more members than it gains, and that there's about two people who are posting there regularly. Here's my post from Polaris, somewhat edited: ------------------------------- Here are several samples of my audial artwork. http://placeofstuff.250free.com/songs.html Please save them to your computer before opening them, so you don't have to download them more than once. I don't have much bandwidth on that site. "Life In A Fish Tank" is not music. It is carefully planned, non-musical sound. It is intended to be used as enjoyable listening material. Some people enjoy it, some people hate it. People seem to enjoy it more when they know what it is, so I'll explain what the sounds are supposed to be. First, you hear the bubbling of the oxygen thingy and the quiet hum of the water heater. Then someone taps on the glass. This causes a particularly strange fish to go nuts and start singing (that would be the sped-up bass). Eventually he calms down and the track ends. Here is a picture to go with LIAFT: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/The...ff/LIAFTori.gif After that is "Mr. Q's Mindrape". Like LIAFT, this is not music. It is carefully planned sound. However, unlike LIAFT, "Mr. Q's Mindrape" was not created to be listened to. I do anyway, but that's beside the point. I intentionally designed it to be unpleasant, although a few people have said they liked this one. Mr. Q is a face. A strange, evil face. He comes up with strange conspiracy theories and ideas. He also likes torturing people. Mindrape is what he does to people who piss him off. Here is a picture of Mr. Q: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/The...ff/MrQTrans.gif Then there is "Well, That Was Cacophonic". It is, as the name implies, cacophonic. For those who don't know what cacophony is, it is loud, jarring, dischordant sound. This track was created to serve as an alarm for those people who are immune to regular alarms. Be careful with this as it might blow crappy speakers if the volume is up too loud. This one, unlike the rest, is not meant to be listened to on a regular basis, as that would reduce its effectiveness as an alarm; however, if you have powerful speakers, no need for an alarm, and a wish to become deaf and/or insane, I won't stop you from listening to it. After that is "Three Internet Geeks Arguing While Driving In The Rain". This one is straightforward, and by far the least chaotic of the non-musical audial works I have made up to this point. It contains the sounds of rain, a simulated car motor, and a conversation. Even if you did not enjoy the previous sounds, you may enjoy this one, since the content is normal. The last one is actually music (Gasp!). It is called "God Damn Snow". It contains several bass lines, drums, and a man complaining about having to shovel snow. I made it on a synthesizer for an assignment in my Music Technology class. Again, the URL is http://placeofstuff.250free.com/songs.html . As Belisarius said, antidisestablishmentarianism and establishmentarianism are not the same. Establishmentarianism means the state of being in favor of establishing the church, which already existed, so would therefore be redundant. Antidisestablishmentarianism, on the other hand, means the state of being against the dismantlement of the church, and does not in any way imply a desire to establish a new church. I watched DBZ for a while (the Majin Buu ones) until I saw the episode where Goku becomes a Super Saiyan III. He starts screaming about seven minutes into the show, and it lasts right until the commercials. Then, when the show returns after the commercials, he continues screaming for another five minutes. During this whole time, there is literally nothing happening.
