Where are you from, YAP? Not sure I know of a place where petting an animal is seen as erotic. Some people (myself included) even kiss their pets. It's no more an expression of lust than kissing your wrinkly old Aunt Gertrude.

EDIT: No, I don't kiss my cats in the same way I would kiss a woman, obviously, so don't start.

EDIT 2: (moved to new post since Alex posted while I made the edit)

Oh, hell, I give up. I'll just ask that someone archive this thread once it dies, so that we can remember the good bits of it, and accept that it's been gangraped to the point where there's virtually no chance of recovery. I wish someone would prove me wrong though.

This is exactly the point of agnosticism: Since there is no irrefutable evidence for or against the existance of god(s), an afterlife, or souls, there's no point worrying about it. Agnosticism, by definition, implies accepting that we can not know whether or not God exists. However, I take it a step further and refuse to make even that assumption (There's no evidence that would imply that a god couldn't tell us it exists with undeniable proof.). I find it affords me wonderful flexibility and freedom.

Maybe when I'm a minotaur, I can find a hot medusa (not the ugly kind, the hot-chick-with-snake-hair-and-perhaps-a-snake-tail-too kind, which might exist in the afterlife. Imagine what she could do with all those tongues...) to marry and join in international territorial warfare, which hopefully is only allowed in certain places so those who want a peaceful life can have it!

I'd tell GremlinJoe to die and TM to stop feeding the troll and destroying a perfectly good discussion any further than it already has been, but I'm not a member of the moderatorial team.

Alec, I don't see you taking that attitude with TM, who is openly pedophilic. Why is that?

Anyway, didn't we determine last time he was here that he was a troll? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else, but I'm pretty sure it was him.

Let's say we have a boy named Frances. Frances owns some books. Would we write "Frances' books" or "Frances's books"? Many people would use the former, but that creates ambiguity. The latter clearly implies the books belong to Frances, while the former seems to say the books belong to more than one France, which is untrue.

In the sixth grade we had a cursory overview of various major religions (which apparently includes Daoism, which I had never heard of then and which I have rarely heard of since), with the obvious bias toward Christianity, despite it being a public school.
But there's not much else of that sort.

Umm...
I've had some time to think about what I've said, and, looking over your posts, I realize that you have actually contributed some useful stuff to the discussion.

I don't know what set me off, exactly. It probably had something to do with my brother not getting me paper and pencil despite being right next to it, so I ended up forgetting the number and times the recorded message on the phone said for my mother to call to discuss important, time-sensitive estate matters. But ultimately, that's just an excuse, and I shouldn't have acted the way I did. I apologize profusely and earnestly.

Still, I'd like to keep this thread more general, as threads discussing specific variations of Yahweh are generally wrought with disagreement of basic concept, flames (like my post, unfortunately), and end up getting nowhere. If it's important to you, though, you should still discuss it. I'd just like it to be in another thread, so that this one stays alive a bit longer.

Feel free to continue participating in this thread too, though. I'd encourage it, actually.

You started debating something nobody else in the thread is debating, that's what. Specifically, you're trying to change the topic from a general discussion about the nature and logic of religion into a discussion of one specific concept of God. Start a new thread. Hell, I'll start one for you. Wait a few minutes while I gather up the relevant posts.

EDIT: Screw it, I can't be bothered. I have stuff to do.

If you're that unhappy with your religion, then get a new one. If you just want to be loved, get a dog. We were having a good debate here before you started derailing it with your whiny teenage angst. You're leading the thread away from the sort of intelligent religious discussion we never have, into the direction of something we've discussed countless times before. If complaining about the seemingly illogical workings of your specific god is that important to you, start a new thread. Or even better, get a blog.

That's where you're wrong. You cannot prove anything by making stuff up. I didn't claim that my answers to those questions are proof of God's existance, because they aren't. As I said, I don't believe in God, or anything of a religious nature for that matter. However, they provide a possible counterexample to the statement that "God can't exist because he doesn't make me feel special". This simply means that just because a conceived idea of God doesn't line up with reality, it does not necessarily mean that no god exists.

I consider there to be evidence of why God does not exist. It is not cold, hard, physical evidence that is studied in a laboratory, but it is logical evidence. If God exists, why does he not come out and tell us? If God wants us to have free will, why is the Bible full of laws and horrible curses that come on you if you disobey those laws? Why does God permit suffering in the world if he is all-powerful and benign? The general answers to these questions are convoluted and defy quite a bit of logic.

The answer to your questions could be something as simple as "because he doesn't feel like it", "because he likes to confuse us", and "because he's lazy". There goes your so-called "logical evidence".

Or it could be much more complicated. Maybe he has reasons not to tell us. Maybe we would instantly go insane if he told us he existed, either due to incomprehensibility to the puny human mind, or due to trying and failing to figure out how it's possible. Maybe the Bible is there to test us, to see if we can figure out that it's a horrible lie. Maybe there's some law of the universe that limits this god's power to interfere with the human mind. There's infinite possibilities. As they say, absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence. Neither is absence of human knowledge of the true reason behind it.

At any rate, I've moved beyond the "The god that my mommy says is there doesn't seem to love me, so I'm going to pretend it's not there, while unbeknownst to others I still want to believe" attitude that your questions are characteristic of (not saying that's your attitude, but most people with that attitude ask those questions), into the "I don't know now, I may not know until I'm dead, and even then I might not know, so there's no point worrying about it now" attitude. I'm quite happy here. Not saying it's perfect for everyone, but I love making up my own religions for fun. When I die, I'm going to be a gingerbread man in Christmastown part time, and the rest of the time I'll be a minotaur in a dank, dark cavern!

Lucky for you, we have lots of good articles about plotwriting (mostly at the Lyceum, see my signature) and a bunch of designers who like to help people with their plots. I was terrible at writing plots when I first came here too. Now I've gotten all the way to mediocre, due to the help of the community. So don't get discouraged.

OM is Order Mage.

I know you can't delete every Nazi forum on the Web, but I think it would be a wise decision not to actively host them, would it not?

Besides, my guess is that every "Nazi" in that thread is OM. He probably only wanted to restart TCoA to piss off Drakey and Alorael. (It was OM who decided to hate Alorael for no reason, right? Or was that someone else?)

I'm considering joining just to post the lyrics to A.C.'s "Hitler Was A Sensitive Man".

Aran, I recommend just deleting the whole forum. You know OM isn't going to stop.

Alex is shorter than me (I'm not a good judge of height, all I can say is he's shorter than me) with brown hair. He eats like a horse and gets no exercise, but is still very skinny. His favorite activities include making comic books and flash cartoons, playing Mortal Kombat, and bleeding on me. He has a girlfriend named Cheryl-Ann who has red hair, dresses like some sort of gothic prostitute, and is apparently double-jointed in various parts of her body. They have been dating for years (except for a period of a few months in which Cheryl left him and Alex moped around a lot; they're together again though) and seem to be pretty deeply in love. Alex can get away with doing strange things because of his likable personality (although I wish he wouldn't take such perverse pleasure in bleeding on me. Telling him this just makes it more likely to happen, unfortunately.)

Brittany is short and chubby. I think her hair is naturally brown, but she usually dyes it (she especially seems to like dying it banana yellow). She has dreadlocks right now. She has always been very strange. When she was little, someone asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up. She responded that she wanted to be a stripper. She dresses very strangely. Her usual outfit consists of glittery tennis shoes, thigh-length brightly-colored socks, a patterned miniskirt, leg warmers, a relatively normal shirt, and a feather boa or Mardi Gras beads. We are unrelated, but she has such a long history of close friendship with my sister and cousin that we often joke that she might as well be. She has a generally likeable personality, although some people dislike her, claiming that she likes attention too much. She calls me Vincey-wincey.

Mr. Cifuni is middle-aged and married with grown children. He teaches Geometry and FST (Functions, Statistics, and Trigonometry) at my high school. His teaching method involves a huge amount of worksheets. He is an amazing teacher, and he knows it, although if you tell him that, he will deny it (not saying he's modest, because he's not, but he likes to pretend to be). He is constantly full of energy and loves to teach. He has done more in his life than any of us probably ever will, and could be making millions, but instead spends his time teaching, because he wants to make America better. When the class starts to get tired from the work and zones out, he relates math to sex to get people's attention back.

Not sure where you're going with this, Thuryl, but I have some ideas.

I have three cats, two of which are tabbies and the other of which is who knows what, and two cockateils.

We found the who-knows-what cat under the bushes in front of my house with a litter of kittens, and we adopted her after a couple years. All of that litter is dead, but her two subsequent litters have all been adopted, hopefully into loving homes. She has great-grandchildren, and maybe even more distant descendents. She is now spayed though, so she won't be having any more. She thinks she owns the house, and loves to let my other cats know it in a violent manner. We don't know how old she is, but she is at least eleven years old.

We received Mousie, one of the tabbies, from one of my mother's ex-boyfriends. Everything she does is adorable. She is big and obese, and rather stupid. We simply could not get her to stop clawing the furniture, so we had her declawed. She rarely went outdoors even before she was declawed, so it doesn't make much of a difference in her life. She loves to sleep and clean herself far more than my other two cats. She is rather kittenlike (except in the weight department), even though she is about six years old. She is very vocal, and she has big, wide eyes, making her even more adorable.

We got Kitty from my mother's current boyfriend. He bought Kitty for his daughter, but then she decided she didn't want her, so he was stuck with the cat. She loves to claw on the furniture and put her dirty paws on the sliding glass door in order to get attention, which annoys us. She is very timid and jumps at the slightest provocation. She is constantly under our feet, sometimes tripping us. She is about the same age as Mousie. She sometimes tries to play with Mousie, but Mousie, not being very bright, thinks she is being attacked and hisses in a rather adorable manner.

Waldo the cockateil is about 15 years old. He is friendly and likes to go on for ten minutes at a time shrieking "Ricky! Ricky! Ricky! Ricky! Ricky!" (a habit he picked up from my cousin's cockateil, Ricky). He is friendly and likes to be petted. His beak is getting weak and he needs to dip his food in his water dish before eating it. It's sad.

Cookie the cockateil likes to sing, especially the Teddy Bears' Picnic song. Sometimes he does a Teddy Bears' Picnic/Ricky Ricky Ricky medley. After mating with my grandmother's cockateil Prettybird, he developed strong paternal instincts and a readiness to attack anything that comes near him, which he still has, despite the fact that there are no longer any eggs to defend.

I'll upload pictures at some point, maybe, but I have none at the moment.

Whoa, she talks to a guy on the Internet for two weeks and she marries him? Isn't that moving a little fast? :P

Happy Easter To All! in General

I celebrate Easter with food and family, if only because I come from a Catholic family. My siblings, most of my cousins, one of my uncles and I are all agnostic. My grandmother is Catholic, but she's not very religious. When my mother and uncles were children, she would make them go to church with my grandfather, but she would stay home to "clean". Once, two of my uncles snuck away and looked in the window, and she was sitting there watching television. She's not very religious, but every time she eats with us on Easter, she tries to make me say grace because I'm the "man of the house", and I laugh at her. Everyone laughs. Then she starts preaching at us and my uncle makes fun of her. She eventually gives up her half-hearted attempts to look religious on Easter, and we eat.

My siblings and I used to get Easter baskets with lots of candy and a present (usually a stuffed toy), but eventually the toys stopped and this year all we got was a chocolate rabbit with almonds. Not really complaining though, since I'm a bit old for toys and I'm trying to lose weight (I gave up for this week though. There's no way I can diet when there's ham and pizzagena in the house.

One year, we all got plush rabbits on Easter. I named mine Theodore Ludwig Bunny. :P
