Massachusetts has the MCAS, which is given several times throughout a person's academic career. In order to graduate, the one given in sophomore year (grade 10) must be passed. There are chances to make it up if you fail the first couple times. Some people hate it because even teachers think it's difficult, but some people like it.

I am graduating on June 7th. Today was the last day of school for seniors at Revere High School.

Is this Karamea person some oldbie I should know about, or just some random person who showed up, posted a couple questions, and left? I'm guessing by your enthusiastic greeting that it's the former, but I don't believe I've heard of this Karamea. No offense, Karamea. My memory is fuzzy.

The Lyceum is in my sig. Kelandon's page ( http://home.sanbrunocable.com/~tommywatts03/ ) contains The Archive, which contains all known BoE scenarios. It's not searchable though, and has no reviews, so if you want reviews of stuff, Alexandria ( http://www.personal.psu.edu/bxb11/boe/alexandriajs/index.htm ) is still up. It doesn't have all known scenarios, as far as I know, but it's searchable by various categories, so it's still useful.

No, you can't talk about that thing you mentioned here. Try at The Lyceum. I don't know if anyone is willing to give it to others though.

EDIT: Hey, look! Alexandria's in my sig as well. I completely forgot.

The only Metallica album I own is "...And Justice For All", an album with lyrics focusing on various injustices in America. My favorite songs from that album are "One" (Guitar World magazine listed this in the top 10 in their 100 Greatest Guitar Solos list), "Blackened", and "Shortest Straw", but they're all good. Other than that, "Enter Sandman", "Sanitarium", and "Fade To Black" (featuring the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra) are among their most popular.

I also listen to Pantera, but you may want to ease into metal before listening to them. They're not very melodic, but they're still good.

I protest the lack of Hindustani music. And don't say it's lumped in with Classical, because if that's what you had intended, you would have had it among the options for the third question.

Thralni: A sampler takes actual recordings of the instrument playing a note and then plays them back in the order you want, so it sounds real because it is real.

Thralni: "Thrash" with an "h", not "trash".

Am I the only one here who likes almost any genre you can think of and several you probably couldn't think of? It seems a lot of people say "I like everything" but what they really mean is "I like rock, punk, and hip hop". When I say "I like everything" I mean pretty much any genre of rock (my favorite rock band is The Who), any genre of metal (even a little nu-metal, but not much. Favorite bands are Metallica and Pantera), grindcore (A.C. and Cryptopsy), pop/rock (The Beatles, They Might Be Giants, Something Corporate), good pop (The Beatles, Lou Monte), most genres of punk (Bad Religion, The Ramones), disco (The Bee Gees, The Tavares) some hip-hop (Gym Class Heroes), some genres of folk (Bob Dylan, Donovan), almost any genre of classical (can't stand most J.S.S. Bach though, especially love Classical and Romantic, favorites are Schubert, Beethoven, Holst), a little jazz (don't like enough to have a favorite), swing (Glenn Miller), reggae (Bob Marley), Hindustani (Ravi Shankar), juju (King Sunny Ade), polka (Jimmy Sturr), blues (haven't listened to enough to have a favorite), R&B (The Four Tops), mariachi (don't know any, but I've heard a little), some forms of electronic music (not enough info), and probably others I'm forgetting.

Funny you should mention Pictures at an Exhibition here. One of the pieces in the suite was "The Hut on Fowl's Legs (Baba Yaga)". Baba Yaga and her dancing hut are the focus of Brett Bixler's BoE scenario "The Hut of Baba Yaga".

But would reincarnation with no memory of past lives really be any different than oblivion? Both effectively destroy the mind.

Also, I recommend that, unless you are already a staunch atheist who has already come to terms with oblivion, you do not read the story, lest you be robbed of a good source of comfort.

Umm... I was going to babble endlessly about my ideas about the afterlife involving minotaurs, gingerbread men, Santa Claus, Hitler, and war, but now, having read that Isaac Asimov story, I am feeling highly unsettled.

If there is an afterlife we could imagine, it would either have to end eventually, or be torturous. For certainly, there is no Last Answer, because, given an infinite amount of time, any last answer that could be arrived at would have been arrived at an infinite amount of time ago. Therefore, there are three possibilities:

1. Isaac Asimov's eternal hell

2. oblivion (I take it that this is the one TM and many other atheists have taken to)

3. something that we could not possibly think of, like Stareye said.

*shudders*

The other religion thread made me think of this.

What would your ideal afterlife be like? Be as detailed or general as you like.

I'll refrain from posting any more about my ideas than I've already posted in the other thread until there are a fair amount of replies.

The reason for this thread? So I can incorporate your ideas into my super-religion. BWAHAHAHAHA

Personally, I have no problem with people fantasizing about fiddling about with little children, as long as it doesn't go any further than fantasizing (although I'd prefer they not tell me about their fantasies). I feel rather strongly that if it hurts absolutely nobody in any way (like masturbating when by oneself in one's private home), then it isn't wrong. This goes for homosexuality, masturbation (although one could injure oneself during vigorous masturbation, but that's not quite what I meant), and yes, pedophilia. (Note that viewing child porn is still harmful to the child, in that in order for it to even exist, a child must have been abused, and therefore getting off to child porn is benefitting from the undue suffering of others. Lolicon hentai isn't wrong though.)

EDIT: Note that I'm not saying it isn't wierd, just that it isn't wrong.
