I am a cheerful punk and listen to many things labelled post-punk or indie-rock. I also have a soft spot for the magical folk. I am wishing to know of your tastes.

We tend to do these topics a lot.

I listen to punk, pop-punk, hardcore, and prog-rock.

To anyone inexperienced, they would all sound the same. But we all know the differences.

I listen to good music.

Last night, I watched The Wizard of Oz while listening to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" album.

Long live classic rock! (Ironically I was listening to "The Wall" when I read your post ADOS, not as good as "Dark Side of the Moon" but still....)

I like indie rock, alternative, and such stuff.

I like this band. I don't know what kind of music that is, but it's good.

I also like Green Day.

I listen to classical music, mostly flute music and orchestral music. Right now I'm listening to "Pictures at an Exhibition" on iTunes. That piece makes me wish I were a brass player. XD

Funny you should mention Pictures at an Exhibition here. One of the pieces in the suite was "The Hut on Fowl's Legs (Baba Yaga)". Baba Yaga and her dancing hut are the focus of Brett Bixler's BoE scenario "The Hut of Baba Yaga".

I also like classical music. Some jazz, too, but mainly classical, and mainly baroque out of all the music lumped together as classical.

—Alorael, who just doesn't like vocals. He can't explain why. There is no reason for it at all, but he doesn't like them.

I have no particular favorite genre.
I listen to what I like.

Favorite artists include Manheim Steamroller, 4Him, Paul Simon, Nightwish, Evenescence, Neil Diamond, and The Manhattan Transfer.

I'm also a huge sucker for good Latin Jazz, classical strings, and baroque brass music.

I don’t really listen to music very often, but while scripting or drawing I like listening to classical.

Power metal. Not epic metal. There's no need to thin the blood by making up new subgenres.

I listen to metal. Heavy, power, progressive, gothic, doom, thrash, black and death.

I listen mainly to Metal,Heavy and Industrial Metal are the best.Bands like Metallica,Flaw,Ill Nino and Fear Factory are some of the best. There is also Shinedown ,but I don't know what to classify them as.I won't go near Jazz, country,or Classical with a 50 foot poll ,they just aren't energetic or my type.

EDIT: Spellcheck says this post if perfectly fine.

I like most music, except Heavy Metal stuff with tons of swearing in it, as I find that fairly pointless. Some music just gets on my nerves, but I find other types relax me, eg. Classical and Some country / Pop.

It all varies.

Real metal finds ways of getting the message across without resorting to swearing (except death/thrash). What you're listening to is probably nu metal.

Shame on you, Micael. Shame on you.

On an individual-song basis I feel obliged to point out Empire by Dar Williams. (lyrics here). While I'm not a huge fan of much of her other stuff, that song is full of lyrical genius, to the point of poetry. It's also strangely relevant to both today's politics and the Empire of Avernum/Exile.

Most Trash isn't just swearing. The band Exodus is a good example of trash without an overdoses of swearing. Their lyrics are aggresive, but they don't contain that much swearing.

But this doesn't mean trash metal doesn't contain swearing, it's just possible without swearing as well.

I don't know about death metal though, but grindcore metal seems to contain a lot of swearing.

Just for anyone who's interested, Metal is the main genre, Heavy Metal is a subgenre, just like trash, power, and all the other stuff.

Well to be fair, ROCK is the main genre. Metal would be a sub-genre of that. We can subdivide all we want, but at least keep the roots intact. To prevent being flamed, yes I know all music would basically boil down to one thing. But let's remain civil here.

Classic Rock and Power Metal. Oh, and 70's and 80's pop type stuff, I'm the kinda guy that gets completely wasted and then proceeds to dance and sing to those kind of things.

Thralni: "Thrash" with an "h", not "trash".

Am I the only one here who likes almost any genre you can think of and several you probably couldn't think of? It seems a lot of people say "I like everything" but what they really mean is "I like rock, punk, and hip hop". When I say "I like everything" I mean pretty much any genre of rock (my favorite rock band is The Who), any genre of metal (even a little nu-metal, but not much. Favorite bands are Metallica and Pantera), grindcore (A.C. and Cryptopsy), pop/rock (The Beatles, They Might Be Giants, Something Corporate), good pop (The Beatles, Lou Monte), most genres of punk (Bad Religion, The Ramones), disco (The Bee Gees, The Tavares) some hip-hop (Gym Class Heroes), some genres of folk (Bob Dylan, Donovan), almost any genre of classical (can't stand most J.S.S. Bach though, especially love Classical and Romantic, favorites are Schubert, Beethoven, Holst), a little jazz (don't like enough to have a favorite), swing (Glenn Miller), reggae (Bob Marley), Hindustani (Ravi Shankar), juju (King Sunny Ade), polka (Jimmy Sturr), blues (haven't listened to enough to have a favorite), R&B (The Four Tops), mariachi (don't know any, but I've heard a little), some forms of electronic music (not enough info), and probably others I'm forgetting.
