Newly Opened... This just strikes me as wrong. I mean, yes, I do believe in a literal 7-day creation, and yes, I am glad to see that some evangelical Christians are actually getting up with the times in terms of multimedia and experiencial presentation. But really, what are you going to accomplish with this aside from indoctrination of children and ignorant adults? Yes, I'm sure that there will be cited scientific facts. Of course; this is sponsored by Answers in Genesis, by definition it must have facts that anyone who doesn't already agree with them will simply find irrelevant (Last I heard, AiG was still pushing the C14 issue). But what about a standing in the scientific community? What about leading by example? A venture such as this not only throws itself in front of senseless persecution, but invites said persecution without an ounce of defense. Without an ounce of defense. Or at least, that's what AiG's track record shows. Me, I'd stick with a museum that portrays what we do historically know, and then devote a handfull of halls to various theories of cosmogenesis, extinction, eras, whatever; presenting facts, arguments, and counter-arguments for each. Such is the nature of science: to observe, not to argue politics. Hmm. I suddenly feel like a hypocrite. Oh well. I dunno. If this is any sort of victory, I am quite sure that it is shallow and will not last. -------------------- The Silent Assassin has submitted a proposal for a microwave-powered light-based cutting device. There are a few popular variations on this principle: Leave a loaded gun onstage, play it as though someone will use it, and at the moment of truth, throw in a plot twist. Leave the loaded gun onstage and use it as a metaphor. Leave the loaded gun onstage as character development. Leave the loaded gun onstage and confuse people with it (a la Lost). Leave the loaded gun onstage. Then take it offstage. Then bring it back (cycle ad infinitum). Then, use the lack of a gun as a plot point. Leave the loaded gun onstage, and then club someone with it. -------------------- The Silent Assassin leaves the gun onstage and then promptly tasers you when you start to investigate why there's a gun onstage. Clever, yes. But he's still a jerk. -------------------- -Lenar Labs What's Your Destiny? Ushmushmeifa: Lenar's power is almighty and ineffable. Some people clearly do not appreciate the attention to detail that goes into creating the life-like environment that Oblivion tries to portray. Though it is one of my all-time favorite games (and Imban, if you boost your brightness a hair, you never have to use a torch in the entire game), I do not believe Oblivion to be the next generation of RPG... instead, I believe it to be the next step in a major transition toward a realistic form of gaming that will rival the medium of film in the necessity of experience and portrayal of reality. Some people will simply not like this new form. Starcraft 2... my roommate is going to be weeping for joy... I'm looking forward to a continuation of the storyline, myself. And, of course, the fact that it's going to use the Havok physics engine. -------------------- The Silent Assassin has requested to use my room as pie storage for the duration of my sojourn. I denied this request on account of the cooling system that he had intended to implement... I do not celebrate death. That said, I am pleased that Rev. Falwell's dogmatic, almost-fanatic, completely close-minded, opulent, not necessarily Bilbical, fearmongering, ad infinitum, ad nauseum... approach to ... everything ... may no longer be a negative influence on the Christian subculture, and indeed the world. The man was wrong about everything but the very basics of his religion, wrong-headed, and he gave conservatives and Christians alike a bad name. That said, I am "grieving" with the Christian community (by grieving, I mean posting a mournful remark on the station's webpage) out of respect to a powerful influencer. My one fear is that someone else as equally close-minded and dogmatic and wrong will take his place. -------------------- The Silent Assassin is currently out of my communication range. There are no coincidences with the gods. Everything is merely consequence, intended or no. - Lith, a priest of Ashataro -------------------- "Sveltas... Stephen..." Noric and Sveltas rushed over to the bed, where their charge, the filthy, strange man now lay writing. "It's okay, we're here," Noric said, taking the man's hand. "Gods... Gods... Geltor..." the man moaned, refusing to be comforted. "Geltor?" Sveltas asked, wringing out another damp cloth to press on the man's feverish head. "Wasn't he the-" "Yes," Noric answered. "I thought his reach wouldn't come this far." He turned back to the man. "Did Geltor did this to you?" "Demons... Demons!" The man began to cough fitfully as he grew excited, barely able to squeeze out the words. "Let them loose! Everywhere! Power! Such Power! Must warn Nerototh! Gods! Gods, the Demons!" He broke down in a coughing fit. "He's delusional," Sveltas concluded. "That may be, but he does know us... and... I swear, I know him from somewhere," Noric said. "Calm down. I'm going to find some help." Noric made for the door. "Where are you going?" Sveltas asked. "To find a healer. At the very least, we can check to see if he's poisoned. Try to keep him calm. I'll be back as soon as I can." "No! No... healer..." "And why am I staying?" Sveltas asked as Noric left. "Because you're the priest," Noric called back. "Tehcnically, I'm a theif!" Sveltas responded. He turned back to regard his charge. "And what we really need is an exorcist. Or an undertaker. Or a priestess of Surita: 'Oh be gone, foul infection!'" he mockingly waved his hand at the coughing invalid, mimicking the voice of said priestess. "Well, buddy, it's you and me now." "Sveltas..." the man abruptly stopped coughing, out of energy. "Yes?" "Drigy... Drigy..." Sveltas puzzled over the word for a moment, beginning to slowly mop the man's head with the wet cloth again. "It's okay, man. Drigy... Dredged... dizzy... dropped... Grizzly... Drige-oh gods." Sveltas almost dropped the cloth as he recognized the human figure underneath the malnourished and beaten figure in his care. And for once, Sveltas was speechless. -------------------- Noric hurried downstairs, ignoring the buzzing sensation in his ears, the itch on his neck, and that deep tingle in his chest that indicated the presence of another god. The man was sick, possibly dying, and almighty Noric had no idea of what to do. So it was up to Stephen Hedges to do the only thing he could: run for help. He was running so hard, he collided with another patron at the inn. The tingling grew fiercer than ever. "Sorry," Noric said. "My fault." "No harm done," the other replied. Noric began to walk away, to ignore the sensation... but before he made the second stride, he noticed something that caused him to stumble into another patron. The man had no face. Completely ignoring the second patron, he confronted the first. "Do you know where I can find a good healer... or at the very least, can you heal people?" -------------------- -Lenar Labs What's Your Destiny? Ushmushmeifa: Lenar's power is almighty and ineffable. (Didn't I just do something like this?) I am a senior Electronic Media double major, focusing on Film and Radio Prduction, with minors in music and Biblical Theology. I chose my field because 1, I love doing production work and almost every facet of it, 2, I finally found a way to outlet my creative energies, 3, because media is one of the most powerful and effective means of communicating to a mass culture. Now, I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with it. I'd love to get into mainstream film; however, I'm told that my true skills lie in manipulating audio. My dream is to end up running my own independant production studio. We'll see. -------------------- The Silent Assassin wants to see if he can create a comprehensive communications curriculum involving power drills and floodlights. Castle of the Winds is too much of a classic rogue-style for anyone over 15 to not already have an abandonware copy, not to mention intellectual copyright respect. Besides, Jeff tends to focus (almost obsessively) on being original. Hmm. I wouldn't mind seeing a Castle remake for BoA. If it included both parts and used the medium correctly (a ground-up rebuild instead of a simple tile-by-tile port) it might actually go over well. -------------------- The Silent Assassin can. quote:I think I'm partially to blame for that, Nalyd. Just to make it clear, Noric did not ascend because he destroyed Saluc. He ascended because Kyros chose him as his own successor. I too believe that we need to be careful about the NPC deities. I feel that any deity who is not a player should in general be treated as neutral. And I'm a bit against one player controlling more than one deity: it's too much power for one player (coughloneflamecoughcough). So... let the NPCs stay NPC. I don't mind if we come up with characters with which to interact (though I would like a bit less violent interaction), or characters simply mentioned to purposefully fill out the detail of the world. But no fluff. And no dei ex deis . It's getting a little ridiculous. That said, I wouldn't mind a handful of functional npc factions (such as the assassin's guild, the armies of Kalazaar, the vampires, the Forsaken, the thieves guild, etc.) that we can all interact with. We are not an island. Edit: Formatting, again. I'm on a roll today. [ Wednesday, May 09, 2007 07:16: Message edited by: Lenar ] -------------------- -Lenar Labs What's Your Destiny? The Gods are regular party animals, didn't you know that? - Written in the margins of a copy of History of the Gods, Part 2 ; a notation attributed to a scribe named Dennish. -------------------- Noric could sense them. He still could not identify them on sight, but he knew that they were there. Somewhere. He'd come to recognize the sensation for what it was when James had revealed himself. It had become more obvious during the confrontation with the Demon and his odd undead minion. The others were out there. They had always been out there. And, contrary to Kyros's assurance, they had no interest in him. Noric sat in a fetal position on the bed, brooding over the events of the past three days. He had visited the Temple to the Pantheon first. No wonder there was a temple to the pantheon in this city: he could feel them coming and going and coming and going; interacting at times, but mostly fiddling in their own business. He had spent a day and a half at the Temple, trying to contact one of the others, trying to reach out and identify just one of them. Just one. But no one answered. He had gone to a library next, after a brief rest at the inn. The library had been dedicated to the service of Ashataro; thus, Noric had hoped to find guidance from a real priest, or perhaps even find that researcher whose notes he and Sveltas had stubled across in Narrow Creek, but no luck. He was back in his room now, tired and frustrated. Even his ability to sense the others seemed lacking: two deities were in this very inn, and he had no idea where. Or rather, one had just left. Noric swore under his breath. And swore again. Even his years in research were not as frustrating as this: to know that you were a stone's throw away from the one thing you had been searching for... a stone's throw away from meaning... and no knowledge as how to grasp it. Um... hello? Noric? "Not now, Sveltas," Noric said aloud, before remembering that it was all in his head. Yes, well, I know that you probably can't respond verbally, and I'm not even entirely sure that you can actually hear me... "I wish I wasn't..." ... wherever you are with that James nut. I've just arrived at the South Gate, and something really odd just happened. "And this is unusual?" I just got puked on by a guy looking for Stephen Hedges. Or, at least, he thinks that I'm you. Noric's head snapped up, alert. Anyway, the guy just passed out. I'm going to take him into town and find an inn or something. I'll give you an update when I find out what's going on. Hope that you and James are having fun with the vampires. Noric slid out of bed and threw his robe on. At the very least, wrapping up some thread of his mortal life would be more productive than sitting around and moping. The south gate was a fifteen minute walk without traffic; but traffic was always assured. He might still be able to head Sveltas off. The way I see it: I see a person about to get hit by a car, I'm going to push them out of the way, regardless of who it is. What is the value in question here? Is it human life? Is it relationships? Is it kindness? Compassion? Karma? I value human life and the ability for people to cherish said life. 1. Lazarus vs. Ephesos It would appear that Laz's ability to spontaneously resuscitate does little to compare with the spell library available to Ephesos. And while Laz can take a beating, he will still fall several times to RETRIBUTION. Winner: Ephesos 2. Infernal vs. Alec Kyras A battle of wits, flames, large posting volumes, and obscenities ensues. And ensues. And ensues until one of the admins steps in and bans them both just to stop the clutter. In the end, I figure that the only reason why they don't just destroy each other is because Alec technically isn't around to defend himself. Winner: Infernal 3. Nicothodes vs. Dikiyoba If the pen is mighter than the sword, then it only appears logical that the pen will prove mightier than the pencil. And even if it doesn't, Dikiyoba does have the advantage of being able to gather and use healing herbs. Winner: Dikiyoba 4. Thralni vs. Thuryl Kool-aid is so much better than vegetables. Winner: Thuryl 5. Delicious Vlish vs. Synergy The range attack of the submission baton will surely prevent any tentacle-slappage. However, one must wonder if the submission baton can be used if one is in the Terror state. It does appear from experience, however, that Synergy is immune or highly resistant to mental attacks (it seems even logic, at times, cannot affect him), and therefore Terror will prove useless. Winner: Synergy 6. Magma Dragoon vs. Tyranicus. Mags fights with fire. Manganese burns in several pretty colors. Tyran dies. Winner: Magma Dragoon 7. Riibu vs. Archmage Alex Riibu vanishes. Alex makes a comic. Riibu laughs uncontrollably, exposing herself. The stick figures carry her back to Finland. Riibu proceeds to play Homeland, thus solidifying her defeat as it causes her severe brain trauma. Winner: Archmage Alex 8. Saunders vs. Schrodinger None can withstand the might of the turtles, even if their caretaker is banned. Winner: Saunders I must say, these keep getting harder and harder. EDIT: See below. -------------------- The Silent Assassin has gone on tour with the local brass ensemble and will not be back until Sunday. In the meantime, I will slander him by ruining his section of the posts. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I wander, thus I wander O'er hill and vale I wander Seeking all that I can quest; Knowing only kings and only gods Know for sure where they can rest. -------------------- Home... sweet... home... Noric rolled around fitfully in the lumpy bed that dominated the room in the Tael district inn. It was true that he didn't need sleep, but damned if he didn't just take a lightning bolt for that James character, and damned if he didn't feel like complete **** for it. Hell, getting struck by lightning didn't hurt any less the third time, either. So he was back in Kirwood; exactly someplace where he did not want to be. True, Kyros had found the lot of them on the streets here, a team of down and out adventurers starving to find their next job and meal. True, his father had been a powerful merchant in the Port district once, many years ago. But Stephen Hedges had been a proud little ranger, and insisted on making his own fortune instead of inheriting the family business as everyone had planned. Damned merchants were a hypocritical rabble anyway. But now Stephen Hedges was Noric, some poor fool destiny-damned deity stuck in an existential quandry, involuntarily reliving the worst moments of his mortal life. Why the hell had he said Kirwood? He supposed it was because Sveltas was coming this way. If the teleport was instant, as James had claimed, he was a week's travel ahead of Sveltas. Unless, of course, Sveltas grew wings and could fly over the Wertel mountains... Yes, Sveltas would be the one to pull it off, though... The two had met almost eleven years ago in a convoy from Keldagrim, back before Kalazar and Keldagrim had gone to war. Noric was helping his master guide the convoy through the mountains between the two countries. Sveltas was a defrocked monk of Ashataro, evading the Keldagrim Mounties. Suffice to say, before the trip was over, Stephen was unemployed and Sveltas was still a fugitive. A ranger and a smuggler, sticking together out of a need to survive. A ranger and a smuggler, turned adverturers, with a band of allies that could hunt dragons, solve crimes, and cause general mischief. Ah, the old days... But that had been years ago, before Kyros and Saluc. Carol and Frank had since gotten married and moved off to some far away land to enjoy their happily ever after. Denver finally got accepted into the Bard's guild. And that stupid mage that they picked up after Marty quit... Drix, or Drigen, or something, he could never remember; he never found out what happened to him. But they were all off enjoying life. Sveltas had become High Priest of Noric, falling back into the old habit of using a shrine as a smuggling post. And Noric had gone on a journey to find himself... And now the Ranger and the Smuggler were a god and a high priest; stuck, trying to find their way again. Damn. Damn life. Damn Kirwood. Damn legacy. Damn lightning. Gods, his chest hurt. -------------------- -Lenar Labs What's Your Destiny? Ushmushmeifa: Lenar's power is almighty and ineffable. All hail lord Noric, god of... well, something important, I'm sure. -laughs uncontrollably at picture of Riibu... because it's true- 1. WKS vs. Jewels WKS may pull out every kard in the book, and then wiki some more; but let's face it, Jewels has probably seen it all and then some. WKS is headed for a smart bottom. Winner: Jewels 2. Smoo vs. Ash Lael Smoo's greatest power lies behind his wererats, but don't forget that he has a little bit of time travel experience on his side. Ash has the power of the Creator (the writing duo), the Creator (aka YHWH), and a radio station on his side. Ash can use his divine radio to broadcast at frequencies high enough to neutralize the rats (who can hear higher pitches that humans cannot). However, Smoo can eventually stage an "accident" that will allow him to go back in time and disable Ash's radio equipment. Winner: Smoo 3. Zephyr Tempest vs. Goldenking. Known to the few who read some of the bonus scripts, ZT is actually a lich who can effortlessly summon demons. The power of skribbane canisters has been demonstrated to be awesome, as well. This match will begin with lots of summoning and disrupting until it finally comes down to a tooth-and-nail melee, as both will eventually use up their MP. A lich has endless stamina, which will eventually give him the upper hand. Winner: Zephyr Tempest 4. Nicothodes vs. Marlenny Let's face it: Marl is just too nice to be attacking someone two thirds of her age. Nico is too aggressive to not attack anyone. Winner: Nicothodes 5. IFM vs. MagmaDragoon Iffy's powers lie in his incessant posting and flamin pastry allies. Mags has the discreet advantage of not always understanding things that are posted in English... especially if it is not proper English. MagmaDragoon's avatar is a dragon, a creature of fire itself. Also noteworthy is the fact that a Dragoon is a ranged unit. This combined with the Guardian Claymore and quick attack for close range gives Mags a distinct advantage over anyone that cannot use range to counter it. Sitting there flaming and flamming will not get Iffy very far. Winner: MagmaDragoon 6. Zeviz vs. Mysterious Man MM has a mighty arsenal of... not much important on his side. The most he can really offer against Zeviz's patented Nuke And Pave is the fact that he has to take care of his little sister, which, this being a deathmatch, will not fly any farther than a dirty bomb. Winner: Zeviz 7. Student of Trinity vs. Niemand Even though Occam's razor is sharp enough to penetrate the Halls of Chaos, the Jade Halberd's defensive bonus can deflect the blow and give Niemand enough strength to defeat any three opponents that might show up. Winner: Niemand 8. Riibu vs. The Lurker The aforeposted picture explains all. Winner: Riibu -------------------- The Silent Assassin scoffs me for his victory.
