At the risk of starting a feud, I would have to say that most prebuilt computer systems aren't that good. Companies deliberately make them hard to upgrade so that you will be a new system every couple of years or so. My suggestion to you would be to build a custom system. If you're surrounded by thec nerds, I'm sure one of them would be glad to do it for you. You'll get a quality system that can be upgraded easily and is also cheaper than buying a prebuilt system. Of course, if you do that you'll have to get a PC, as Macs are only prebuilt (the big reason I prefer PCs).

I disagree. I thouroughly enjooyed Loamhedge and Rakkity Tam. In my opinion the only Redwall novel truly undeserving of shelf space is Outcast of Redwall. That book was terrible.

Where did it come from? I made it up. It's an RP after all. I had finished my conquest of the Great Cave, and made it as far as the Tower of Magi. Sullust was doing things in the Eastern Gallery, and at the time of my post, Mertis was unclaimed area. I created the undead as an NPC faction, and was planning to have a storyline about Mertis for the next several IC posts. The area around Mertis has been plagued by undead before. I just decided to bring the undead back in a much stronger force. I'm sorry if I messed up your plans, but as I said before, the Mertis area was unclaimed at the time of my post.

Cressen led his men through the devastated farmland, past the pale, lifeless bodies. They had been killed in all sorts of disgusting ways. Here a man was disemboweled, there a woman had her heart cut out. Who is capable of such cruelty?

He had told his officers to be on the lookout for hostiles. A very large force had done this, and these bodies were fresh. As of yet, they had encountered nothing living. Perhaps there is someone left in Mertis. They were approaching the gates of the city. They were barred shut, but 20 yards to the right was a huge gash in the walls. He guided his lizard in that direction. As he neared the walls, a wizened old man limped out of the opening.

"Who are you that call upon the dead?"

"We have come from the Great Cave to find out what is happening in Mertis. Who are you, old man"

"There are some who call me.... Tim?"

"Tim? That is your name?"

"Perhaps. I would be away from here if I were you, my lord. This is no place for the living."

"What has happened here?"

"The dead happened. All here are dead," Tim cackled maniacally.

"You are alive."

"Am I? Am I really?" With that, the old man faded away.

"Where did he go?" asked Jaquen, Cressen's aide.

Cressen did not reply. He was staring in horror at the dead bodies all around. They weren't quite as dead as they were a moment before. The were all getting to their feet and shambling towards the soldiers.

"Form ranks!" he ordered. His five thousand men prepared for battle very quickly for such a large force, and battle was joined. Cressen drew his longsword and hacked at a pale figure with entrails spewing from its belly. He chopped off an arm, but the wight just kept coming. "Priests!" he yelled. "We need Repel Spirit spells!"

Over his head, blue flames blasted, incinerating wights 8 at a time. For a brief moment, it looked like they were going to win. Then the gates of Mertis opened. Thousands of undead came streaming out of the city. He took one look at the host of spirits and knew they had no chance. "Buglers! Sound retreat!"

It was too late. The two forces clashed. A tide of death washed over the living, and everything went black.

I am quite familiar with the English civil war, and Charles II had no children. I presume you mean James II's son who would have been James III? It doesn't really matter though. James's son, Charles (better known as Bonnie Prince Charlie) had no legitimate children, so the Stuart line would have ended anyway. :P

Stepping out of his tent, Selwyn saw the surface-worlders. It's hard not to distinguish them with that tanned skin. "I am General Selwyn, his majesty's ambassador, what is it that you wish to discuss with me?"

"We come bearing an offer of alliance from the Dominion of the Learned, sir," said Alexandria, respectively.

"Well, I believe this is something that his majesty would probably want to hear himself. Lt. Mandon!"

"Yes, sir?"

"Form up a 25-man escort to take Lady Alexandria to Torfen to see the king."

"Yes sir! Right away sir!"

"Are you ready to go now, my lady?"

"Yes, I would like to see his grace as soon as possible."

There was a knock on the door. Lartaynior looked up and said, "Enter."

Selwyn came into the room. "Sire, a delegation from the Dominion of the Learned on the surface would like to speak with you."

Surface worlders? What in the Abyss do they want?

"Send them in."

A woman came into the room, followed by two men dressed in robes. They got down on one knee immediately. "Your majesty," said the woman, "I am Battlemage Alexandria of the Dominion of the Learned. I have been sent here to treat with you."

"What is that you want from the caves, my lady?"

"Magister Demetrius requires focusing crystals, your grace."

"Well we have plenty of those. What can we expect in return?"

"we are prepared to offer magical scrolls and wands and perhaps even magi to assist you, your grace."

Why not? This could be profitable. I am wary of treating with surface-worlders, especially considering the opinions of my allies in the upper caves, but if they let these magi through the portal, it should be alright.

"I believe that we can come to an arrangement, my lady. Tell, Magister Demetrius that I am pleased to enter into trade with him."

"Yes your grace," Alexandria smiled.

"We're almost their men," General Cressen called to his troops. Lartaynior had sent him and 5 legions north of the Tower of Magi to re-establish contact with Mertis. They were now approaching the farmlands surrounding the city. As they topped a rise and looked down on the area, he could see the scattered farms ant the city they surrounded, or what was left of them.

Something is very wrong. Most of the building were torn down or burned, and the city itself had a gaping hole in its southern wall. Corpses lay everywhere.

What in the world has happened here?
