Sorry I made a rar instead of a zip, Dintiradan. I guess I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. I use WinRAR for all my compressing and expanding because it can open and create both rar and zip files. Anyway, Thralni, I played a bit last night and will play more tonight. I'll have a beta report for you by Tuesday evening (EDT) as well.

That's quite odd, Thralni. I know that the email I gave you is good. I use it all the time. Oh well, tyranicus(at)shadowvale.net should work. I presume that you know to replace (at) with @ right?

Edit: Nevermind. I got it from Lenar.

It's pretty decent. It's not quite as good as A Storm of Swords, but it's still good. The book was worth my while simply because SPOILER. I had been waiting and hoping for that since A Game of Thrones.

The link does indeed explain the allusion. Why would I post a link if not to explain an obscure reference? :P

I think Pabodie is a Lovecraft reference, but I'm not sure. I go for midnight (or later) walks all the time. I'm a nocturnal creature.

I've only changed my name once to Tyran the Chat Pimp and had that up for a few days only.

I'm not trying to start a war, but for the record, I already mentioned Fable, and KotOR 1 & 2 are also available on PC. I should know. I have them both. :P Also, a quick Google search reveals that Sudeki is also available for PC, so you have only added 2 games to the list. The ability to play 4 or 5 RPGs that I can't play anywhere else just won't sell me for a console. There has to be an extensive game library that I would be interested in in order for me to buy a console. I might pick up a preowned Xbox at EB one of these days, since they're rapidly dropping in price. However, I just don't have so much money that I can blow $350 on a console that I won't use that much. Besides, I'm holding out for the PS3, which I will use extensively. After all the PS3 will have support for all PS1 and PS2 games. Does the Xbox 360 support all older Xbox games? I thought not. :P

What a lot of people forget about consoles is that they are no different from computers. Considering the technical specifications of the computer hardware inside the 360 and the PS3, the prices aren't that bad.

I was actually talking about the Controller S for the Xbox. I don't like it either. By PSX, I meant both Playstation systems. The X stands for any number.

First off, I have Oblivion on my PC, so why would I need an Xbox for that? :P

Secondly, how many of those RPGs are also available on PS2? Other than Fable (which is admittedly good) and The Elder Scrolls Games, I can't think of any Xbox-exclusive RPGs.

Care to provide any evidence to back that statement up? How exactly will it be any harder to make PS3 games? Also, you are going to find a lot more Playstation fans on an RPG forum because there simply are a lot more RPGS on PSX.

Well, for starters, some of us can't afford to just buy every fancy new console that comes along, especially when it wouldn't get used much.

Let's see:
Xbox and Xbox 360: Don't like the controller. Joysticks should be at the same level. :P Also, buying one would mean giving money to Microsoft. :shudder:
PS2: Proud owner. I've had one since they first came out. :D
PSP: Never saw the point. Only a couple games that I would want to play.
Gamecube: The controller is worse than the Xbox. Also, it seems geared for children.
Gameboy: I've got an old Gameboy Color that I use occasionally.
Nintendo 64: Got one. It's one of the best consoles ever made.
Sega: That's not a specific console. :P I do have a Sega Genesis that I fire up from time to time.

For the record, I also have a NES and SNES that I use some as well.

Getting to play a game before everyone else is no treat (for me) if most of the wrinkles haven't been ironed out beforehand.
Polished games are more enjoyable. However, I see it this way: If I test someone else's scenario for them and help to make it polished, then I will get plenty of beta-testers for my scenario. (presuming I ever actually finish it  )

Edit: I will be more than happy to test using Windows 2000, Thralni.

An RP in the World of Avernum *Reloaded* in General

Lartaynior was sitting in the common room of the inn in Almaria. From time to time, he liked to pretend he was a commoner and get a feel for the general opinions of the populace. Today, the feeling was agitation. Merchants wanted out of the city to sell in therefugee encampment across the river, but no one was being allowed across the bridge. I wish I could make them understand how necessary this is. No matter how many times he had explained his reasons for sealing off the city, the people just didn't understand. Thomys had sworn that the evil presence was still east of the river, but he did say that he had had no more premonitions.

"Give me another mushroom merlot," he said to the barkeep.

He downed the concoction and got up to leave. As he was leaving, a man in a dark robe approached him.

"I have a proposition for you," he said in a sibilant voice.

"Who are you?"

"A friend."

"Fine. Say what you've come to say."

"Not here. Too many ears. Follow me."

"Alright."

Giving a meaningful look to his disguised guardsmen, he followed the man out of the inn. They walked into an alleyway, his guards discretely following.

"What is it you came to say?"

"Roban of Dharmon says hello."

"What?"

That was the last word he ever uttered. A wire noose slipped around his neck from behind. He had never seen the hidden man, and now he never would. His guards rushed up and dispatched the two, but it was too late. The nominal king of Avernum was lying on the ground, his lifeblood pumping out of his throat.

-------
OoC: I'm not leaving the RP. I'm just shaking things up.

Do you have Windows 2000 or XP? The Exile games (and Nethergate too for some inexplicable reason) do not cover the taskbar in 2000 or XP like they did in 95, 98, and ME. In order to play with the taskbar covered up, you will have to manually change it each time you play the game. Right-click on your taskbar and select Properties. Then, deslect the check box that says "Keep taskbar on top of other Windows". After you're done playing, you will probably want to go back in and check the box again.

MM has it somewhere, but I see nothing wrong with posting it here. There is nothing objectionable in it. I just have to go over the logs to find it.

Edit: MM's email to Jeff:
Sir, I have a problem. It has to do with your first daughter, Cordelia, and a character in your game Avernum 4. This character I speak of has the same name as your daughter. Now I have noticed that the Cordelia in Avernumb 4 has obviously erect nipples, and tattered clothing. There's also a cut along the side of her dress that obviously reveals she is not wearing undergarments of any kind. This, my friend, implies that this woman is one of loose morals and has sexual relations with more than just one partner. Now Mr. Vogel, I would sincerely hope you have enough pride in your first-born, that you would not portray her as an aroused sex junky in your games. Maybe I was wrong. Obviously sir, you should be thankful that not all of your loyal gamers are aware of this fact as am I. I'm here to tell you that you're a disgusting and appalling man and you should take more pride in children. Thank you for your time.

Jeff's reply:
I can understand the confusion. That Cordelia in the game is meant to be a fictional character, a construction of electrons, that does not, in fact, exist in reality. That character was named Cordelia because, well, I like the name. It is not meant to be, in any way shape or form, my daughter.

Along those lines, my daughter Cordelia does not have magical powers, and she is not an adventurer in any underground kingdom.

My newest daughter's name is Miranda. Should I someday write a work of fiction with a character named Miranda, that does not mean that that Miranda is supposed to represent my daughter. Should I place a dragon named Miranda in one of my games, this does not mean that I think my daughter is a lizard.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

For those who want to know what Cordelia looks like, here is her picture:
