Well, that's the correct comparison if the aim is to stop violence in general. However, it seems like the US is only worried about threats to itself (terrorism). Thus Afganistan and not Sudan.

Best TV ads I've seen are road safety ones. I really dig this one that's done to make you think it's a car ad - lots of shots of this nice shiny car tearing along an empty road with Powderfinger pumping through the speakers, and then he smashes into another car and kills someone. Oops.

One of the best radio ads I've heard was one that told the story of Beethoven (obviously in extremely abbreviated form), naturally with Beethoven's music as the soundtrack. When it gets to the bit where he goes deaf, the music stops dead and there's nothing but the narrator's voice. And then he says, "...and that's when he wrote this," and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony soars into the speakers. "On (date), you can hear the (some orchestra or another) perform all nine of Beethoven's symphonies," continues the narrator. "A rare opportunity... considering that Beethoven himself only heard eight."

Not necessarily. From what I understand, it's a very different situation. In that Islam specifically forbids the depiction of Mohammed, to discourage people from seeing him as the central figure of their religion and worshipping him instead of Allah. Or something along those lines. To an extent, the fact that the cartoons were mocking Islam and Mohammed isn't even the issue. But I don't pretend to actually understand what's going in the heads of the people who are so stirred up about this.

Anyway, I'm with Alec and Kel here. Regardless of the over-reaction, those newspaper guys were being dicks.
