I have personally decided to boycott "lol". How many of us actually laugh out loud when we say "lol"? Very few. I strongly believe, In my current drunken state, that the worldwide usage of "lol" end now.

And, amazingly, that was my 666th post. Enjoy it immensely, as I know you all will.

Thank you for the non sequitur followed by a double post!

—Alorael, who doesn't boycott lol so much as not use it. Even if he does chuckle at what he reads, he doesn't feel a need to inform everyone that it was funny. THey can figure it out for themselves. He also doesn't write "achoo" when he sneezes.

I never use lol. Heck, it hurt just to type it.

I just never laugh like that... I'm more of a "Heh" person.

What brought this topic on?

I always use "lol"; it has to be one of the most annoying habits I've caught. Even though I’m more of a “Heh” person myself, I still use “lol”. I'm trying to stop myself though, I mean if I was able to control the "YO" after every sentence, then "lol" should be a piece of cake.

Order Mage, I'm done with the reminiscing, now could you get back into your "not-starting-senseless-topics" mode - assuming you have one? :)

Edit: On a completely unrelated note, several of the top ten Google results for the word "reminiscing" relate to Myst.

I've never used 'lol' or 'heh'. I tend to more type '*laughs*' or '*cracks up*' when I feel a response is needed or if I am just bored

lol doesn't even look or sound like laughter. Using words like "That made me laugh." or "This is funny." is appropriate for most situations. When it's not, well, onomatopoeias should be used instead, if only because "onomatopoeia" is a great word.

I don't type lol, at least not in earnest.

But I do say it in real life. Yeah.

Maybe it's just because I'm in CompSci, but the amount of time it takes me to type "laugh out loud" instead of "lol".

Besides, the fact that one has to use a cookie-cutter expression to convey their emotions says a lot about their intellectual state.

Laughing out loud is also a cookie-cutter way to express happiness or amusement. Everyone does it. Do you intend to reject that trend as well?

Discuss.

—Alorael, who believes that the use of the pseudo-word "lol" correlates directly with societal decay, urban violence, and meta-rejection of the network-relationship structure upon which civilization is founded.

There's an error in your cartoon, Alex. It should be "meta-reject." The meta is critical for sounding pompous.

The sad thing is, I know the song. I just wish I could un-know it.
