A bit bare-bones right now (obviously), but I like the set-up. It does, however, assume that the player knows some things about the terrains they're dealing with before even opening it- why not make smaller captions or a "help" pop-up? Perhaps you could make a state-compiler where you have a selected group of "options" (ie. Display Message, Display Small Message, Set Flag, etc.), the designer chooses which he/she(/it?) wishes to add to the list of actions performed in the state, at which point it would be compiled into one handy state to be used in the editor. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

If you can haste/heal them with number 5, then they are members of your party. The Griffon, no matter how it may appear, is not. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

*SHE'S* gone, Pythrax is a she. If you were listening to the dialogue, Pythrax explicitly stated that her goal was merely to escape the school. After breaking down the barrier for you as a reward, that's probably exactly what she did. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

The griffon is not a member of your party- notice how it doesn't EXACTLY follow you around, but rather loosely follows you? It follows you via creature script, not via being in your party. That said, I haven't had any problems of this sort. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Rosy, is that first poem supposed to be some sort of self-destructive modernity? I can't do poetry well- I need a short story to say what I want. -------------------- Rate My Scenarios! I want to call a state IMMEDIATELY after a monster dies, not at the end of the turn (using state 2). Is there any way that a creature's death can cause a node to be called instantaneously post-mortem? Thanks. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

I, personally, have a small tutorial scenario I made for myself to test the calls in. Avernumscript isn't easy, but if you bash your head for a long while (and you will), you'll get it eventually. Knowledge of basic algebra, booleans, and at least one other scripting language help here. (Walking into this I was vaguely familiar with Javascript, so it wasn't as difficult as it could have been.) -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

I snuk around the back passages- there are secret passages that allow you to avoid the Haakai. This is good, because none of the Deep Crawlers (even the Deep Nullifiers or Deep Destroyer) can cast spells. It's much easier. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

A Small Rebellion was good, although I can easily see where it could have been improved on. Diplomacy with the Dead profits from being made for BoA in terms of gameplay, but suffers in terms of plot on account of extreme predictability. Valley of the Dying Things is generally mediocre- a solid foundation and some good things are done with it, but little else. Za-Khazi run is an immensely annoying scenario with no justification for much of anything. Almost all events had no reason being there, and all of the combat was tedious, hack-slash-repeat sort of variety with little (if anything) done to improve upon it. No personalities were established, and the ending was a heinous abuse of massive laziness in both versions (*E and *A). Jeff should have knocked down the levels in DwtD to the levels in Za-Khazi and never have ported this one. Bah. >_< -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

(Big surprise! I have another stupid question...) 553 is the icon of a Scen Icon pic I want to be the label of my scenario. I insert 553 into the field for "Set Label Icon", but the game refuses to recognize it. Can one customize scenario icons, or are we all relatively screwed in that regard? -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

I'm not sure why it would even have to have the description removed- in items clearly from other scenarios, every other trait works just fine. I have no idea what difference this would be. I'd like Jeff to include descriptions. Just imagine- "This sword, wrenched from the wrathful fists of Gal-nath the Haakai Lord in the seventh circle of hell, etc..." Now, scenarios can become even more self-important. ;) ^_^ [ Sunday, March 28, 2004 12:22: Message edited by: Tentacle Monster ] -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Scenario Tables Suggestion... in Blades of Avernum | |

When I registered BoE, I looked at the scenario tables and thought, "Wow! There must be some really good scenarios." Unfortunately, my experience with Za-Khazi was so sour and dry that I wanted to quit permanently. Some incredibly awesome 3rd-party scenarios (ie. An Apology) brought me and my slew of scenarios into the fold, but if I would have decided to actually quit after Za-Khazi, then another community member would have been offed. My suggestion is to include VotDT, ASR, Za-Khazi and DwtD on the scenario tables- Untried and Untested at first, delegated to another as time progresses. That way, people can get an accurate picture of Jeff's scenarios in comparison with everybody else's- Most people come into Blades thinking that Jeff is the king of scenario design. No offense intended, but this just isn't the case. I think Akhronath stated it best when he said, "[The Exile storylines] were salvaged by their epic proportions. If the proportions are scaled down to a couple of towns and a few outdoor sections... ...the inherent problems in the traditional Exile design scream out to be noticed." Therefore, why not soften up potential players to the disappointment of Za-Khazi by allowing other users to rate it? If VotDT and Za-Khazi are only 4.0's and there are scenarios rated 4.5-4.8, then people will be far less likely to quit after playing them. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

I absolutely LOVE this call! But, can one use it and have the text be to the right of the picture, along the lines of the intro text in a scenario? I have good uses for this call regardless, but having paragraphs describing what's going on in the scenario next to a picture would be preferable. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Boolean checks don't use semicolons. That aside, I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |
