Okay, there's been a little loose talk about the needle/ferrets on the General forum, and I for one would just like to point out that if people can't keep our secret weapons on the DL, RWG will never achieve its rightful dominance among the forums. Loose lips sink ships! Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

Well, there's the classic example of Helen Keller, who can't see or hear, though she could when she was very little before the fever (I believe this was the reason) took her senses, so she had those recollections to draw on, once she started getting the associations. Lacking all context (no sensation at all), I reckon thinking as we conceptualize it would be impossible. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

I agree - a thinner stone bridge is what I had envisioned. Also, I liked the hills for the columns better - regular earth just floating in the void like small islands is much more disconcerting and cool, IMO. :) Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

Salmon, how old are you? I would put you at about 26-28. Though I look like a young'un, I'm actually 27. This is largely due to my inability to grow any sort of a respectable beard. [ Friday, July 22, 2005 12:01: Message edited by: Drew ] Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

We'll see if this url will work... This photo was taken at my bachelor party (a camping trip) during the last weekend of June. I'm the one in the middle. My friends Bill and Adrian are flanking me. I was probably close to three sheets to the wind by that point in the evening. :) [ Friday, July 22, 2005 11:50: Message edited by: Drew ] Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

You know, it's actually difficult for me to conceptualize thinking without words now. I wonder whether this is actually more enabling or more inhibiting... [ Friday, July 22, 2005 08:59: Message edited by: Drew ] Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

I apologize for dredging up old stories, but... :P One of my favorite parts of one campaign was when the wizard in our party got a Ring of Contrariness. It was also a +1 Ring of Protection (we didn't know about the curse), so we gave it to the wizard, and his player did an amazing job roleplaying it. The best (worst) was when his character not only refused to haste our party before a battle with a small community of ogres, but also actually ran into melee and hasted the ogre mage chieftain because he "felt we were having too easy a time of it." The ogre mage then proceeded to bonk the wizard on the head. When we finally decided to take him to be healed (our priest had a habit of getting dropped to 0 hp very early in our sessions) - and the merits of doing so were pretty fiercely debated on this one - we discovered that the ring was cursed. Then it just became a matter of a steady use of reverse psychology until we could find someone with the means to remove it. :) Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

My favorite campaign ever occurred in the Greyhawk setting, which we ended up preferring to the Forgotten Realms because Greyhawk is comparatively low-magic, which added challenge as well as "realism," if that word is at all applicable. I'm certain that my DM put in long hours to come up with our campaigns. My favorite character in this campaign was a thief who seemed to have an unearthly knack for achieving critical failures while disarming traps. I also almost without fail would roll a 1 or 2 on a d6 for damage from his arrows, leading to the running joke that he was armed with a Nerf bow-and-arrow. Fortunately, he had an 18 charisma, which pulled the party through many of what would otherwise have been very unsavory situations. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

quote:It's not that it's not graspable, it's that it's not acceptable. Accepting that faiths other than one's own share any common aspects is to concede some of one's authority on "truth," which isn't very comfortable for some people. Really, it just amounts to politics. Well, politics and a fear of uncertainty. [ Friday, July 22, 2005 05:22: Message edited by: Drew ] Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

I found that the NRSV was probably closest to the Greek. Still, I'm pretty certain that no one really has a good bead on "logos." I agree with the need for some amount of classical scholarship even to begin being able to understand the historical background of the document. What boggles my mind, though, is why these details are almost never taught in church. The answer I've gotten to that inquiry most often is that those details aren't important to the faith. It was a lot better with the large install, although going back and forth with the "Tales of the Sword Coast" disc and the 5th disc was a bit of a pain. [ Thursday, July 21, 2005 10:27: Message edited by: Drew ] Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

It won't be like the first two anyway, as that story pretty much played itself to the end in ToB. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

Oh, stop proselytizing, Ben. You didn't really address any of the points I made, which concerned the authenticity and veracity of the Bible as a historical document. Your arguments basically boil down to: the Bible is right because it says it is. This is a very circular argument that doesn't hold water. Not that we haven't already established this about n^nth times... Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

Interplay is pretty defunct at this point. The folks who made those games are currently working either at Bioware or Obsidian Entertainment (which is most of the old BlackIsle Studios crowd), who currently publish through Atari. From what I've gathered, BG3 is pretty much off the table. Look for NWN2 in 2006 though, as well as probably some other WotC-property-based games to be developed by Obsidian Entertainment not too far in the future. It may have just been a very poorly executed copycat attack. Not all bombs go off correctly, all of the time. If one person was responsible for creating the bombs, they could easily have messed something up that would reduce the effectiveness of all of them. Ah, these kids with their new-fangled ways, so much flashier than the old days. Why, I don't think I can recollect a time when the good old Five-Point String Bean Exploding Spleen technique hasn't sufficed.
