It pains me to drop this on a topic in such a wonderful forum as RWG has become, but it needs to be done: Verelor? Clue phone - it's for you. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

One could also just look at the list of participants at the end to get an idea how it will go. A lot of familiar names are there... :P Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

He also historically has cultivated a reputation for not being a hard worker, and failing at the things he attempts, only to be bailed out by his family and friends after the fact. His is a story of success handed to him, and that doesn't help out his perceived intelligence either. EDIT: Maybe it's the case that he's cultivating that image intentionally, but if that's so, it's all the more reason he shouldn't be president. Deceit is not a quality I want in a democratically-elected leader. I apologize in advance, it's very difficult for me not to get into a rip-roaring partisan rage over this particular topic - I have very strong feelings about it. In case you're wondering how any administration could possibly launch a war on such unfounded grounds as the current one, I encourage you to pick up the book "Groupthink: Psychological Studies of Policy Decisions and Fiascoes" by Irving L. Janis. To me it seems quite on the mark, and Janis' analysis of the Bay of Pigs incident seems particularly on the mark. I think Bush's frequent verbal bloopers, his demonstrated lack of knowledge of international affairs and events prior to being elected, his apparent inability to answer questions on the spot, and other incidents that have befallen him that may plague us everyday but are especially funny when they occur amongst the rich and powerful - I'm thinking of the pretzel choking incident, here - are what have cultivated the reputation of stupidity. It's probably unfounded, however, I do desperately wish he could speak on the spot well - it would inspire a lot more confidence in him, I reckon. More later from me (possibly post-wedding) on Stupidity and Politics. [ Thursday, July 28, 2005 09:01: Message edited by: Drew ] Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

We're currently working on a poisondart!mongoose prototype: The exact pointy object and punctuation combo has yet to be determined. Note: Do not refer to them plurally as "mongeese." Doing so whips mongooses into an incredible frenzy of indignation, which may result in lost digits. The new title for this thread reminded me of the character Benji from The Sound and the Fury by Faulkner, which in turn reminded me of this. Anyone who's read Faulkner will likely enjoy it. :) Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

Ben, please don't defile one of my millennial threads with such an image, ever again. An evil bunny ferret for you! Stug, thank you so much for the initial wedding image. I usually go with All Bran Buds and either granola or Grapenuts for a little extra flavor and texture. Instead of milk, I go with lowfat vanilla yogurt, which is usually pretty good. Bran Buds are the best source of fiber among breakfast cereals, I believe - 52% of your daily allowance in one serving! - and fiber makes life happier. I have bad memories of oatmeal from my crew weight-cutting days. My favorite topping for it though is definitely honey. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

Man, if you knew anything about appeasing the gods, you'd know that you have to take a cue from Agamemnon and sacrifice your firstborn daughter. No Iphigenia sacrifice, no calm seas and favorable winds. A no-brainer, really - just look out for the rage of your "Clytemnestra." And if you don't have a daughter yet? Get conceivin'! Those wine-dark seas aren't going to calm themselves... Man, what would you all do without classical scholars around here to keep you in line? I shudder at the thought. :) [ Monday, July 25, 2005 04:41: Message edited by: Drew ] Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |
