From what I've been led to understand, the membership also includes a bunch of people from outside SW, which just makes it seem awkward to me. Seriously, after scanning a couple of topics, I'm honestly frightened by the PDNs.

Hm... I'm not sure how I feel about all these levels of the hierarchy. Eh, they're not seeming too important yet.

I'm thinking up an IC now, actually.

Also, has anything at all been said about Makroangkeen since Geltor merged with him? 'Cause I'd like to write an IC from his perspective, if nobody else minds.

But seriously, I don't quite get it. I mean, I'm almost compelled to visit just to figure out what the heck they're doing. For instance, I find it incredibly funny that there's a giant dinosaur on their home page, and I can't help but wonder how on earth they justify that.

Perhaps I need a better explanation of what's going on, because it's just funny as is.

The question is whether you really make the game more fun by doing so, given the opportunity costs involved. Time spent working out how the game will react differently to different player decisions is time that can't be spent making a single game track longer or more interesting. Back when I was a DM, I tried to encourage my D&D players to think up creative strategies, and tell me about them before I started work designing stuff. Once I started writing dungeon, though, I used every trick I could to surreptitiously eliminate player strategic options; because every time they had a major meaningful choice, it meant that I had to do twice as much work for the same amount of actual gameplay.
You know, you really do need to give BoA a try. This is the sort of setup I aspire to creating in a scenario.

Or something like that.
Okay, glad to see that you're apparently as confused about it as me.

IC:

Still angry from his encounter with James, Sliros swept through the alleyways of Joth. He could feel the presence of another god nearby, so he headed towards it, the air behind him shimmering with waves of heat. It was the tribal god, whom he had rescued from the strange mortal with white hair (whose energy was something of a mystery to Sliros... he could see its shape, but not its substance). Sliros had felt the god's link to... well, something. Probably his tribe. The sudden appearance of one of James' minions had forced Sliros to leave suddenly, lest he acquire an epic headache.

It was not long until Sliros found the god, leaning against a house which was still rebuilding itself, drawing stones out of a pile that used to be its own roof.

"I believe you wished to see me. Here I am. What on Kalandha do you want?" Sliros barked. The other god jumped slightly.

"I am Avin, patron god of the Ishnu and God of Languages, and I'm just trying to figure out what's going on here. No need to bite my head off." Avin said, drawing himself up to his full height.

Sliros sighed. A stone fell behind Avin. "Right, sorry. There are some other deities at work around here, and only half of them seem to have a clue." As a matter of fact, Sliros could feel the combined energies of Geltor and James from a distance. They were moving too fast for it to be worthwhile for Sliros to decipher them. "I believe it is more important for us to focus on local matters for the time being."

Sliros turned his attention away momentarily to guide the sundered halves of a pillar back towards each other at the far end of the street.

"For instance, what do you know about the mortal whom I defeated earlier?"

...so I'm vaguely following this still, and I might write an IC tomorrow. But since when was Minoko a goddess?

EDIT: Or, I'll have one now. Nioca, I'm sorry, but I can't remember if there was an original purpose to our meeting. Your move, at any rate.

Eh, after King Starrus, age matters little to me in terms of generals... and he's a Redmark. He'll be competent.

I also liked Garzahd's cameo in A4, and I almost felt some pity for him.

Personally, I've grown to love including things that the recommended party shouldn't be able to do (see SoG), as well as things that just don't really go anywhere at all. There's a lot to be said for elements of the game added for atmosphere, whether it's adding real conversations to the starting town's inn or being able to get multiple versions of the same story from different NPCs.

Anyway, I like to leave a bunch of guns on stage, loaded and unloaded. Because seriously, when will there be just one "gun" in a room? :P

Okay, I'm going to do something radical and switch from bashing to praising.

Nalyd, you were doing really, really well until the conflicts with Safey and Krasnova heated up. In fact, I'm slightly confused about Krasnova in general. And you already know what we think is messed up about the bone dome fiasco, so I won't talk about that.

But other than that, I think you've done really well. You were the only person to actually deal with Geltor's demon blood, and I liked seeing that. I'm a bit curious as to how things went downhill, and I think a little bit of it had to do with the esablishment of a lair... that's been a bit of a problem in this RP. Anyway, don't give up just yet, and I personally would prefer it if you'd stay.

(This makes me miss the Avernum Reloaded RP)

Yeah, it's definitely true that those vocal few don't accurately represent the views of most Christians. It's just that to the uninformed viewer, the degree to which they are vocal about their beliefs almost lends credibility to the idea that they have a lot of support.

The louder they shout and the more money they have at their disposal, the easier it is to believe that they have a stronger backing than originally thought. That kinda scares me.

Yeah, but I'm fairly certain that the experience from traps and quests was tiny compared to what you get from combat.

Also, a stealth-based character doesn't really work with Avernum as much as with Geneforge. In Avernum, sometimes the narrow tunnel you have to go down just happens to have a Vahnatai Lord in it, and there's nothing you can do about it. Also, it's hard to use stealth to deal with a megalomaniacal Crystal Soul bent on aimless revenge. :P

james, if you want something like Oblivion, as you keep pointing out, then just go play Oblivion.

I will say, though, that the augmented items in A3 were a really fun little bonus. I miss them.

...well, with any luck, Aran's archiving will keep the IC from being lost, as it almost was with MoS (again, many thanks to Aran). But as it stands, the IC is nowhere near long enough to crash yet. MoS got to... 450 posts? Anyway, something like that, before it crashed... though that had OoC mixed in.

Oh, and what do you guys think of my next IC?
