Oh, and I have but one thing to say to AM: ... I'm not doing anything dramatic at that point in the code, which is what makes this weird; apparently the cut scene coming to an end is triggering something that causes this, but I can't immediately see what it is. The normal things that cause Unhandled Exceptions in BoA are bad terrains, which doesn't seem possible here, or animations that haven't been run, which aren't here are as far as I know, or numbers outside reasonable ranges, which as far as I can tell aren't here either. If anyone figures out what's causing this, let me know. I may try to use Wizcozski's PC to reproduce this if it is a consistent problem that we can't track down, and if worst comes to worst, I may e-mail Jeff. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! Ephesos: In conclusion, yarr. Can someone explain Aran's ethnic background, please? I thought he was straight-up German, and I hear British-ness in the English, which makes sense in that he is a European, but why would it make sense to Alec to hear Chinese in the accent? I haven't heard of anything like this before, and that part of the scen has remained unchanged since the first beta. Is the error message one of those stupid "Unhandled Exception" things? And I'm assuming you're using Windows, right? Well, given that a couple of the screenshots include only one character, it looks like those are people that you pick up on the way (possibly temporarily, Nethergate-style). -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Surely there must be some way to get the same menus... pressing Escape, holding down Control, something button somewhere. The plot certainly isn't finished, and the next scenario I make will be a sequel to this if I ever get around to it. It may not be quite what you expect, though. Small point, but impetus was a fourth declension u-stem, not a normal second declension, so the plural was made by lengthening the final u, not by changing the ending to -i. That is, the only reasonable English plural is impetuses. I also really disagree about the dangers of cutscenes, but the article only briefly references that, so it's probably not a big deal. What might help is to be more positive: rather than "[x] can be a problem if done poorly," something like "This is how to do [x] well." It's a... menu. It's at the top of your screen on the upper left. If you have BoA set to take up the whole screen, you may have to do something special to get to it, but I don't know what that is. Go back to Northern Bahssikava. Fight the chitrachs. When you've finished the chitrachs bit, you should get a key. Use that key in the school in the same town to access a room with mind crystals. One of the mind crystals will teach you Bahssikavan. Unless you learned some in the Catacombs beforehand, though, that won't do you much good. I'm going to change this for v1.0.2. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! It's worth noting that if you actually found an artist who was irritated by this use of his images, we'd be rather quick to comply. It's in the absence of an interested party who cares that we ourselves don't care. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Dreamguy, there is a significant difference between legally wrong and ethically wrong. You are certainly right about the law. However, posting someone else's work is ethically a problem mostly when the author/artist/whatever would be upset by the use of the work. That's why this issue meets with a certain apathy, whereas my issue with Overwhelming didn't: the artists who made the images that have been used most likely would not care. I propose that we enforce a policy (as much as possible, which may be not much) that a designer must have at least sent an e-mail to the appropriate person whose work is being used in order for that work to be an accepted scenario on the SW tables and in the contest (or any future ones). Images on the Louvre or ones obviously made for BoE/A are of course exempt. I propose enforcing this relatively loosely, and if it ever becomes a problem, to deal with it more strictly and of course follow the wishes of any artist who shows up with any request to remove any images s/he created. As far as I know, the only person whom this will affect immediately is TM. Basically, we should require that designers make a reasonable effort to get permission for images used. The unfortunate thing is that we don't actually run the SW tables, so enforcement may be, er, tricky. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I think the major differences between American English and Canadian English are kind of like the differences between American English and British English. Those differences are basically that most words ending in -or in American become -our in British (color -> colour, honor -> honour), words in -er ofter become -re (center -> centre), and punctuation goes inside or outside of quotes based on whether the quote actually contains the punctuation, rather than according to the American rules, which are truly odd. I'm not sure if the Canadians do all of that — it seems likely that they don't — but that's what the Brits (and as far as I know, the Aussies) do. Any real Canadian, feel free to correct me. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. In other news, I'm debating whether I should actually get GF3 when it comes out. GF1 was exciting at the beginning and disappointing at the end, and GF2 was fun for gameplay, but kind of wearisome by the end. I don't think I'd be interested in playing GF3 if it's just the same thing as GF2, which was nearly the same thing as GF1. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens.
