Note that none of the dates in my argument actually came from history texts, though. They all come from narratorial sources in each of the games (the date counter, the statement "The proclamation is dated eighty years ago," the statement "the First Expedition from the Empire about fifty years ago"). Fallibility was never really an issue here. I still think that the community entirely made up the Hawthorne I, II, and III stuff. I think what Jeff intended was that Stewart was king when the school in VoDT was shut down and when Avernum was discovered and the First Expedition sent, and that his son and successor, Hawthorne, was the one who started exiling people and was king until the adventurers of A1 killed him. Then Prazac succeeded Hawthorne directly, with no Garzahd regency particularly. He was just a powerful figure at court. I admit I had to google it and read this page, since I'd never heard of it before. That kind of makes sense, since I'm on a Mac, and I guess pif files don't do anything on a Mac. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. This sounds like it would require a full RP board. You might want to take a look at the less-ambitious but actually functional The Empire Always Loses RP or try to start a single RP in one of the towns — I'm not sure what the status of the last one is at this point, but I think it's deceased. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Aluion, I apologize if my response sounded caustic. This issue has made me a bit on edge lately, and I'm sorry if I was a bit harsh. Anyway, I'm sure that there will be a huge fuss about this when this weekend arrives and Overwhelming comes back, but I guess we can let this lie for a couple of days until that happens. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:I suppose you failed to notice that the BoAC is not located at spidweb.com nor run by Spiderweb Software. Yes, Jeff has the right to do this, but Overwhelming does not. quote: quote:Notice the difference. There were a few conversations (which I started), but no one brought up the prospect of going to his service provider until after this topic was made. (Dreamguy, in one of the early posts in this thread, was the one who first mentioned it.) Making this topic was the suggested remedy. quote: quote:Please read more carefully before you pass judgment. Er, this may or may not help, but from the walkthrough in the forum header: "Walk along the path, ignore the wheel, then make it to the lever. Pull it, and pilot it out to the water area, and take the upper path. I'll let you figure this out, but it's not too hard. Then just keep pushing the block up the stairs. The block won't fall off the cliff either. Move back onto the rune, and uh oh! Just push it south through the secret door. Jump down after it, and move it back onto the rune. That's it." -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! Ephesos: In conclusion, yarr. I was thinking of the merchant carts, yes, and I couldn't come up with the right word. They were being used in a way that resembled horses, and while they weren't being used for warfare, well, I imagine that it could be done. Yes, it would be hard. I think that breeding the lizards for strength and obedience might lead some interesting results — the ill-behaved lizards in A1 might sometime after A3 turn into warhorses. Or maybe not. I don't really know anything about this. :P -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! quote:I disagree entirely. None of the comments that I've made have been intended to demean Overwhelming. The reason that I made that request is clearly stated in the main clause of the sentence in which I made the request: "I do not know what we should do about this." The community lacks enforcement mechanisms. If someone is doing something extremely unpleasant, there's no way to bring the person to justice except discussion and the weight of public opinion. It's not as though we can fine him or something. quote:I was not aware that this option existed. This was suggested to me after I made this topic; that's part of the reason that I went public, so that I could get opinions on the way to proceed. I gave Overwhelming nearly a month to remove these items and I sent him repeated messages. I think I've shown a fairly significant amount of restraint. EDIT: Anyway, his 48 hours are almost up, and my work is still there. I imagine that this means that something will happen later. EDIT 2: quote: [ Thursday, February 17, 2005 08:45: Message edited by: Kelandon ] -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. The only sliths who have Lizard Riders in Bahssikava are in Kass's story of the homeland, which may or may not be true (remember that he was just telling a story that had been passed down to him) and certainly describes a situation and technology level different from that of any sliths in Avernum. The sliths of the Second Slith War in ZKR presumably do not use lizards as mounts, although I think humans have been using them like horses for chariots since A1 or A2. I could've sworn I saw that. They weren't war-chariots, but one can imagine that that's only a few more years off. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. 1. The call set_state is pretty much only useful in a creature or terrain script. There, it will run the state on the next turn. In any other script, as far as I know, it just ends everything. 2. I don't know. I wouldn't count on it. 3. As far as I know, it's 10 total. 4. As far as I know, it spawns in the same place as the original creature was placed. If you want to place a monster that doesn't do that, use place_monster. Raise your hand if it took you until just now to figure out that "Ash Lael" is the other half of The Creator. In other news, we don't really keep anyone from playing BoE, although it is a way of finding the best scenarios made so far. It only fits half the "secret club" designation. But, er, yeah. Overwhelming, Stareye is not just a moderator, he is an admin. There's a difference. Also, I sent you three PMs, an e-mail, and a previous e-mail; if you didn't get that, then your "Contact Me" on the BoAC doesn't work. I don't want the sort of exposure that your web site would give me. I shouldn't have to argue with you about this: I wrote these text documents on your site, so they are mine. Several of them (Dehydration, Numeric Input, Terrain Script Template) are not based on anything that Jeff has written at all. I have a large (an overwhelming, even) number of reasons that I don't want you to distribute either my scripts or my scenarios, but I shouldn't have to list them: I created these things, and I'm asking you to follow my wishes with regard to them. If you want reasons, I can give you dozens of reasons. You have never asked, though. Overwhelming, please just do the right thing, with or without the law: please remove my scripts and scenarios. You have given no reasons for your actions, and I can't help but think that they are motivated by malice against me. I don't expect you to believe me, but malice against you is not one of my many reasons for making this request. Please stop this now.
