SoT is dead right, especially where hard liquor is concerned. From my own experience, I've found that the buzz from drinking beer occurs in almost equal increments with each beer consumed, while the buzz from consuming hard liquor tends to hit all at once. I can feel the slight effect a single beer has on me, but feel nothing after a single shot of vodka, whiskey, rum, or whatever.

Most of the parties I've attended offered only kegs of beer, and I've always managed to limit my consumption at these parties to a level at which I am still quite capable of walking about, getting home, drinking several cups of water, and clambering into my top bunk.

At the parties which offered liquor, however, the story has been rather different on occasion. Jungle Juice, a blend of everclear (190 proof stuff), kool-aid and water, has in particular been my bane on several occasions. As the stuff is mixed up by the hosts in an unknown proportion, and sweetened up extensively with the kool-aid, it becomes damn near impossible to tell how much you've had after a while. I'd advise all of you to religiously avoid drinking Jungle Juice at parties at which it is offered. Stick with beer, or have liquor by the shot (keeping tally of each shot) and you'll have a much safer, and better night.

Waffle House is indeed fantastic. I had the opportunity to dine there over winter break when I visited a friend in Lexington with some others. On our last morning there, we stopped by, and I was decked out in a suitable uniform for the place- full flannel pyjamas, with a fedora on my head. I then proceeded to polish off a triple hash brown platter, after which the two men of Irish descent present pronounced me an "honorary Irishman." :P

The trip to Lexington was my first experience with the "real" South, I suppose, as I don't believe south Florida counts. It was really a beautiful place, and had actual hills and valleys, much different from what I'm used to in Illinois. In terms of the people, they would probably would have been more friendly if I wasn't quite so foreign and odd in appearance. I'm used to that most everwhere I go, though. :P

It was a mistake to make this a poll thread in the first place. Much more sensible to just have members state their locations, with as much or as little detail as they wish. I'm from Oak Park, Illinois, in the U.S, about a mile away from the Chicago border. During the school year, I live in Urbana, IL, near the University of Illinois.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Drinking in moderation can indeed be nice, especially when there are attractive women around. Far better to stop at a few drinks and be relaxed and smooth-talking than to get completely trashed and approach them slobbering and barely capable of communicating at all. It is nice to loosen up and have a good time while still maintaining some semblance of control and clarity of mind, and I have gone that route on occasion.

Of course, seeing as this is my twenty-first birthday party, I'll probably not stop at a few drinks. I'll maintain caution, though, as there have been quite enough occasions where things have gone memorably wrong (sprained wrist, anyone? :P ) to give me pause when considering drinking to oblivion. I'll have a good time, for sure, but I'm not going to down a bottle of Jack or anything like that.

I had my first day of summer classes on Tuesday. Ugh, Physics. Apparently it'll be my last bit of school for a while, though, seeing as I've managed not to meet my probational GPA and will be forced to stay out of college for at least a semester. :( Currently, plans are in the making for working full time in Champaign during the next school year, so as to still live in the house me and a bunch of pals signed the lease for last fall.

Of the active members here, I believe I'm one of the few from the midwestern United States. If I remember correctly, TM and Gizmo are both from Wisconsin, right? And I know that AM is originally from Kentucky. Anyone else from the region? As far as I know, I'm the only relatively active member here who hails from Illinois.

Oh, and I'm male, in case all of the facial hair didn't make that evident enough.

I mean to graduate college with Integrative Biology degree and then pursue a masters in zoology or something along that line, to the end of becoming a zookeeper. Of course, failing out of school has kind of thrown a wrench into the plan, but I feel that a year of full-time work might imbue me with the needed increase in responsibility to finish my final year of college.

I, too, would like to take a real, certified IQ test. The only one I've ever taken was an online test which claimed I had an IQ of 156, which was such a satisfying result that I've understandably stayed away from any similar tests since. I would like to know the truth, though, however much of a letdown it might be.

Name: Anand N. Subramanian
Age: will be 21 in a week
Race: Asian Indian
Country of birth: U.S.A.
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 147 lbs

Now that the basics are out of the way, I'll get around to the rest. Stughalf is what I go by around here. The name originates from a story I wrote in sixth grade, and has no other real meaning. I adore ferrets immensely. I enjoy wearing hats; ordinarily I wear my signature captain-style hat, but I tend to switch to a grey fedora in the coldest winter months. I'm immensely proud of my facial hair, which currently consists of mutton chops integrated with a moustache. I don't yet have any pictures displaying this new facial hair configuration, but an outdated picture can be found in the same picture thread ADoS linked to.

In terms of my personality and demeanor, I tend to be a mellow and moderating force in my interactions with others, and remain in a relatively calm state of mind most of the time. I'm an extrovert by nature, and tend to feel quite out of sorts when isolated from others for even a relatively short time. I am friendly and extremely tolerant, although even my patience has limits. I am not terribly responsible or mature for my age, which can be a serious liability at times. I tend to be sorely lacking in drive, will power, and motivation as well, and as a result I've suffered from some very poor academic performance of late. My self-confidence isn't quite where it should be either, which causes me some problems on the relationship front.

I enjoy most classic rock and pop, and my favorite movies are mostly either old classics or old, obscure horror films. I tend to watch television only for sporting events, especially basketball, baseball and football. I'm not much of a reader, but I enjoy a good Agatha Christie mystery novel once in a while. I am a fairly heavy drinker, and I've been known to toke up occasionally, but I don't smoke, and I've never dabbled in any of the harder drugs.

There are many other little aspects and facets I could discuss in detail, but I figured this outline would be sufficient for now. Remember my most prominent characteristic- I'm an incredibly open and honest person, and I'll disclose readily on almost any subject if asked. So feel free. :)

I'm a Bulls man first and foremost, but with their early exit I've been rooting for the Pistons since. They play the game the way it's meant to be played, with hard-nosed defense and rebounding emphasized over pretty moves and run-and-gunning. I want to see them repeat as champions, and I believe they'll manage it.

Pickup lines? Never used an overt one, as I just don't really have the personality to put them across effectively. I'm far too mellow and passive of a person in general to be convincingly bold and brash, I suppose.

In my dealings with the opposite sex I tend to play to my strengths. My smile is reputed to be rather sexy and my vocal delivery is a smooth bass, and both tend to serve me fairly well. I play it safe in terms of what I say, sticking to non-threatening comments and quips as opposed to the vulgarities I'll often indulge in when talking with pals.

By the way, I hail from Oak Park, Illinois and live a mere five minute walk away from the West Side of Chicago. The three biggest cities in the U.S., represented on a single page? Fantastic.

True. Easily in my top five. I'm not sure what my personal favorite is, but it's probably Killer Angels. Other favorites include A Tale Of Two Cities and A Separate Peace, which I basically enjoy because practically everyone else seems to hate it with a passion.

That's rough. My condolences on the loss. I've never had a pet, but judging by how upsetting it was when any one of the hundred ferrets in the ferret shelter I've worked at passed away, I have a fair idea of how painful it might be to lose one's pet.

My first post was some frivolous post in the GF2 forum when I was desperate for aid and hit upon the forums as a likely source. Then I noticed General and had a look around, and the rest is history.

I don't remember whether I had a beard or moustache back then. Certainly neither was quite as well-developed and impressive as they are now. I didn't have the hat back then, either.
