Waffle House is indeed fantastic. I had the opportunity to dine there over winter break when I visited a friend in Lexington with some others. On our last morning there, we stopped by, and I was decked out in a suitable uniform for the place- full flannel pyjamas, with a fedora on my head. I then proceeded to polish off a triple hash brown platter, after which the two men of Irish descent present pronounced me an "honorary Irishman." :P

The trip to Lexington was my first experience with the "real" South, I suppose, as I don't believe south Florida counts. It was really a beautiful place, and had actual hills and valleys, much different from what I'm used to in Illinois. In terms of the people, they would probably would have been more friendly if I wasn't quite so foreign and odd in appearance. I'm used to that most everwhere I go, though. :P

Depends on who it is. If I met you, who I don't really know very well, it probably would happen much as you describe. If I met Thuryl, we'd probably start talking about the nature of reality or something crazy like that. If I met TM, chances are we'd end up getting into a full-on fist fight. :)

Basically, the point is so you get a better understanding of who that person is. Words on the internet can only tell you so much. The tone of your voice, the way you walk, what your immediate reaction to something is as opposed to your considered reaction, etc, are all facets of a person that we aren't really privy to from the boards.

The question is: are you sure you want to know? :)

I also love Waffle Houses, being able to order tea pre-sweetened to a point it makes my teeth feel hairy just thinking about it, NASCAR, bluegrass, deciduous forests, and the feeling of being somewhere where, if the power and water were turned off, nature would quickly overtake everything.

No offense to CA, but I find the level of government subsidization necessary to keep cities running and lawns green out there a bit disconcerting.

I love New York, but I agree with you. People on the south are so more hospitable and don't seem to rush things all the time like new yorkers.

There are a few people that seem like genuinely good people. True there is a lot left unsaid, but most people's views on things are expressed sooner or later. It doesn't take long to know which people are compatible with your personality, and which ones aren't.

Seeing people's photos also helps. Seeing their expression and how they carry themselves can give a good amount of information.

Meh, another reminder I should probably try to make myself less of a recluse and actually try get to know people.

Talking about the nature of reality sounds fun though.

We can talk about a bunch of stuff in person that would be considered inacceptible spam here on the boards. That and we're here talking to scores of people we know so well but have never met.

Speaking of which, its surprising to not see some 50page "RL Pic" thread. I agree, that putting a name to a face really does help in finding out who people really are.

These have existed in the past. They tend to get locked.

You could talk about anything on AIM. In fact, Saunders used to run a very insane chatroom. Is that chatroom still running?

You would be only about 400 from me, as I live down the bottom of Victoria. I was in Canberra 2 years ago, but that is the closest I will get to a fellow SpidWebber who is not my brother.

Room 3 kind of died due to the signal/noise ratio getting too low. People are still on AIM though, and impromptu chat rooms are not uncommon.

EDIT: Speaking of crazy, do I recall that you were in Russia, or was that some one else?

Yes, I am back, although I am not sure for how long. I just don't like grand entrances (and grand exits).

About Russia, I moved from Russia to America about 10.5 years ago.

But you are crazy anyway. :P

Zeviz, you must stay this time.

Ah, the good old days of Room 3 with Saunders, Khoth, and Arctic.

Then, one day, Khoth invited me. I invited everyone else. Room 3 went to hell. I'm sure that's why nobody ever invites me to chats anymore.
I promise I won't invite anyone from now on though, if you want to invite me. ;)

Room 3 is inactive. Completely.

Unless you are one of the special people who knows the password.

Edit: Nice to see Zeviz back, by the way. I wonder how he's coping with all the new monikers.

The longest I've been away from Spidweb is probably less than a month. I should leave and see how long I can stay away.

Starting now.

Welcome back, Zeviz. Nice to meet you.

Millicent, you will most likely come back after about a day. I have tried to do it. Remember, spiders use a very refined glue to trap their prey.

One last thing:

Spring, I doubt it. I sometimes leave for about a week and come back out of boredom. A month'll be easy.

Thanks for all the welcomes. :)

As for all the new names, my assumption is that new names mean new people. Since people change both in real life and in the characters they play on these boards, it's better to assume that everybody I meet now is different from what they were over 2 years ago and new names just help remind me of that. I even considered changing my own online alias.

I'm sure you can remember the more proficient posters (TM and Alo mainly). If you have been lurking but not posting, ignore the rest of this post.

We have had a lot of things going on this year. A couple of major things are Saunders (#21) and Mystery Man (#5) having their accounts deleted.

Arancyatar has introduced a monthly stats topic, showing the growth of SW members as well as the top 10 posters for that month.

TM's topic about his Monkiers is now a 20 something page full of spam, and everytime he changes his monkier he posts something in the topic, causing another couple of pages.

Members have come and gone, and as you can see, a ot of people have joined. We are relatively close to the 6000 member mark.

Thats my ramble for today, goodbye.
