The door is in cahoots with the wolf? My God, the conpiracy is greater than I feared! —Alorael, who thinks that an old account is like the metaphorical old boot. It's comfortable and worn in. Getting used to a new account takes effort and suffering and... okay, so it's not a great metaphor. Oh well. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Welcome to Spiderweb, JSzewczyk! Leave your sanity at the door! The names will be confusing for a while, but you'll work out who's who eventually. Don't be afraid to ask, because it's really not intuitive at all. —Alorael, who is always happy to get the traditional greeting in first. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I pronounce Khoth as Koth and add a very minor effort at accentuating the aspiration. One could make a case for it being a throaty sound like certain Hebrew letters, which are usually transliterated as 'ch' but occasionally written 'kh' instead. I pronounced "Wise Man" As "HWIZ-eh MAIN" in order to make WM unhappy. —Alorael, whose name can be pronounced many ways. The "ae" alone could be a Latin long E, an old English ash (æ) with a nasal A sound as in apple, a long A, eye (as Spanish makes it, more or less), or anything else. He's not sure himself which he prefers. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

quote:This is a complete nitpick and serves no purpose, but he never said that cars can't go that fast. He said that nobody can afford them, and while this isn't quite true, it's pretty close to it. Anybody spending that much money on moving from point A to point B has too much money. —Alorael, who has a low tolerance level for movies in general. He doesn't enjoy most "classics," he doesn't like most new movies, and he has for the most part stopped seeing them. If there's a really good one, someone whose taste he trusts will recommend it eventually and save him the wasted hours of boredom. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Don't be silly. You have to leave your sanity at the door, but Saunders never retrieved hers. Now she needs to leave another, which she doesn't have. That leave her with a net sanity debt of 1. —Alorael, who wonders what the door does with all the collected sanities. You don't suppose this is all a front for some charitable organization helping the criminally insane, do you? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

If you mean the online ordering, which isn't quite the same as email, it's probably as safe as the company backing it. As far as Spiderweb goes, I haven't heard of any problems at all. Sending your credit card information through email is as safe as the destination (in this case, safe), and the email service you use. As long as you do nothing really stupid, there should be no trouble with it. —Alorael, who recommends the online ordering as slightly easier to fill out, probably easier to read, and probably slightly more secure, although that shouldn't be a concern for either method. It is a bit strange that the Empire is willing and able to teleport troops into hostile territory in Avernum but can't set up a similar system in Valorim, where the troops are needed and wanted and the locals are probably inclined to be helpful rather than murderous. —Alorael, who doesn't have any explanation for why Anaximander sends out a bunch of wet behind the ears level 1 bumblers. Sure, he says that he needed someone urgently before the military botches everything, but... padded resumés, perhaps? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

To avoid getting scammed, don't log into any account through a site reached via email. Go to the site in question and log in there. —Alorael, who has only rarely seen scams that don't immediately scream "SCAM!" at anyone paying attention. The clever ones fake an email address from the correct site, look official, and lack the ubiquitous typographical errors of the casual scammer. Besides, a new account wouldn't be Saunders. No, the true way is for us all to have a funeral for the old account and then a party for the new one! Allow me to be the first to say, "Welcome back to Spiderweb! You now owe the door one sanity." —Alorael, who would also like to point out that the boards don't function well without Saunders. I've pronounced Thuryl like hurl as well, only with more of an "ih" between the R and the L. To me, Kelandon is KEHL-an-dun. I've always said "Djur" as JUR, which rhymes with fur. I believe someone once gave it a definition complete with pronunciation, though. It was pronounced HOAR, and I'm sure you can work out the definition. I try not to pronounce Boeh, but when I have to it most closely resembles BO-eh. That's kind of like boa with a different vowel, I guess. —Alorael, whose name is pronounced A LARGE... never mind. It's possible that they were sent to do some very serious and long-range reconnaissance before reporting back. Little things like traitorous equipment, monster plagues, and hostile crowds of people who lost relatives to the Worms could have impeded proper debriefing. —Alorael, who would also like to point out that most player parties probably don't return to Fort Emergence all that frequently. Who's to say a bunch of hot shot heroes would be more prone to reporting? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

He denies his fabulous wealth strongly and repeatedly. Exile 4 isn't going to happen. —Alorael, who believes copying a game in a scenario is a copyright violation. Comparing BoE to any Exile game, it's also highly impractical. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Or maybe they were literally the first four men and women that Covert Ops (Unspecified Services was a better organization...) could get their hands on. And don't forget that they were equipped with Xian items. That could ruin anyone's day. —Alorael, who also suspects that they couldn't save and reload. That depends on how long I'd have to spend doing each. A little bit of GC doesn't hurt. It's just staying awake that's hard. —Alorael, who likes both his legs, thank you very much. quote:It's accurate verbatim, but actually it was a commentary on difference in vocabulary. (Does that make Spanish computers OPs?) quote:Luz (or Mab): What part of Spain are you from? quote:Poor Babelfish. This really doesn't translate directly well, and it only needs some parts translated. Anywa... "Aran" is the third person plural of "to plow," which is also the second person plural outside of Spain. In Spain there's another conjugation for a different plural, vosotros. [Ed: BSC seems to suggest that vosotros is more formal, but I thought it was the informal. Or maybe I'm not quite competent...] "Caytar" doesn't translate. I'm not going to attempt the last tongue twister, but it's about confused memories and not trusting them, I think. Is confabulation as uncommon a word in Spanish as it is in English? —Alorael, who yields his dead Spanish to the competent. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

¡Es fácil añadir los acentos con un Mac! Razón #445 porque lo tengo en vez de... ¿una CP o todavía PC en español? Luz (o Mab) es de España, creo. Probablemente hay otros también. Y hay más que deben hablar el español. Muerto. —Alorael, who is sure all kinds of things are illegal all over. He hasn't heard of that particular one in the USA, though. In fact, betting on deaths sounds like a good idea, kind of like a terrorist futures index. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Hay unos que hablan español aquí. Hay unos que hablan mejor que yo, como BSC, pero puedo comunicar sin usar Babelfish (que de veras no traduce sino destroza). —Alorael, a quien no le gusta escribir su firma en español. Yes, I am aware that this is not the first such attempt by Kagurati. The question was rather pointed. —Alorael, who considers point 2 countered by the fact that it is not really any community and points 1 and 3 countered by the problem with point 2. Basically, without a starting core of people, you can't attract people based on the community alone. You don't have one. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

And reconjugate the verbs from second person informal plural to third person plural. And maybe add a vos or two, depending on the country. Then consider whether the preterite subjunctive has to change from -se to -ra. Worry about other regional words! Or, like most Spanish speakers, just hope that the other party can figure out what you're talking about. —Alorael, who knows of at least one translator that is technically English to English. Yes, it is amusing, but at least it's intentionally amusing. The other kind of translator is better known as spellcheck. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

You can meet Bon-Ihrno in A2 before registering if you like him for his personality... —Alorael, who realizes that this comment is not at all helpful. He'll make a pathetic attempt at salvaging it by adding that there aren't currently any sales or discounts beyond the regular cut price for registering the entire trilogy together and the lower prices for BoE and Nethergate if you buy them with something else.
