Musica Antiqua Köln is rather good, as is Itzhak Perlman. One thing about classical is there's no shortage of "bands" and soloists. —Alorael, who sincerely hopes that you can identify his taste in music from the above. Knowing it from previous topics doesn't earn you any points. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

[I think you missed the point, Drew. I had a third person reference in the body of the post, which I don't do. To compensate, my signature uses the first person, no matter how bizarre it seems with the format.] —Alorael, who still doesn't know where he forgot his signature. The suspense is killing him in a wholly figurative sense. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Yes, you need to register to reach Fort Dranlon (I think) and definitely to reach the slith book that you need to learn the spell. There may be a few Piercing Crystals in the demo, but I can't think of anyone who will give you a steady supply. Actually, I don't know if anyone does in all of A1. —Alorael, who has never paid too much attention to the crystals. By the time they're available he usually has Dispel Barrier. 58. Where did Alorael forget his signature? [Edit: Italics should be done competently!] —Alorael, who doesn't like referring to myself in the third person anywhere but my signature. Hi, I'm Alo no matter what name it says I have, and I don't collect sanities. They're left at the door, which is not my place. I prefer second story windows overlooking alleys. —Alorael, who will have you know that Spiderweb is the kind of tight-knit community that can survive even the worst of puns. Part of the English problem is the fact that we don't seem to learn or think about things that are integral to other languages. Conjugation? That's something bacteria do. Auxiliary is a military thing. Subjunctive is like a juntive, but less so. But if I were to have attempted proper English, I would have to have realized that it's harder than it may first appear even when you split the infinitives. —Alorael, who isn't quite sure what he wrote is proper English. He edited it a few times, read it to himself a few more times, and realized that it became gibberish in his head whether or not it makes sense. Hwætever. Is that legal? Is that right? Why was Drakey able to find it, or at least willing to find it? Is there God? Is there Santa Clause? —Alorael, who has maybe asked too many questions? Should he have provided another link even though Project Gutenberg and Baen are the extent of his readily available free book knowledge? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I have a confession to make. I, Alorael, have been making posts in Galactic Core and deleting them immediately. Many times. Many, many times! My post count is the Enron of Spiderweb. If you bought stock in it, you've lost out. To all those who have counted on my posting insightfully, entertainingly, or even insipidly, I'm sorry. To those who think Drakey should have the highest post count he's earned, I'm sorry. To those who blame me for the current crisis in Nigeria, I'm not really responsible, but I'm sorry. To everyone else, I don't care. —Alorael, who can't really explain this post. It would be spam if it were a few lines longer, but it's far too long for easy spam. The only category left is drivel, which this must be. Oh well. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

There's no Norton for Tiger, but 10.2 is still in Norton territory. It's just a matter of finding someone with the CD. —Alorael, who isn't sure what he'll use now. Probably TechTool, unless someone has a better suggestion.n Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

What Thuryl hasn't said is that he's probably also well versed in operating systems back to Windows 3 and System 6. In addition to being specialized, biomedical software has an unfortunate tendency to be too expensive to be worth upgrading, to be impossible to upgrade without upgrading attached hardware, or simply not upgraded. If that plate reader was written in the early 90's, then by God everyone will use a contemporary computer for it! —Alorael, who suspects that ENIAC is still used to run several hospital databases. If you don't like Lord Foul's name, use a title. He gets plenty of them! Soulcrusher is a little more dignified even if it does sound like something from the most worthless Tolkien knockoff fantasy. —Alorael, who could also make a decent case for Thomas Covenant as a villain. Not to mention just about everyone in the Gap Cycle, from the megomaniaclly named Warden Dios to the unfortunately named Angus "Thermo-pile." Donaldson must work overtime to come up with creative torments for his characters to dish out and receive. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I am neither dark red nor vapid and yellow. I also don't chloroform newbies. I leave them to Arctic. —Alorael, who subscribes to the pornography approach to newbies. He can't define it, but he knows it when he sees it, and it can last for years. More specifically, that would be n00bism. Newbies are just new people and remain so until the shiny is worn off and the sanity duly deposited. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

You could also try running one of various scan, spit, and polish programs like Norton Utilities if you can get your hands on them. Norton has saved my Cube from oblivion several times and fought a valiant losing battle with a Performa (I think the problem was that it was a Performa). It's much cheaper if you can borrow it from an acquaintance. —Alorael, who would seek out an apple genius, either the professional kind or the unofficial kind, in person. It's much easier to diagnose and fix a computer when you have it in front of you. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Three questions: 1. Why does everyone care so much about the statistics? Granted, everything generates discussion on Spiderweb, but this has stayed on topic for a while. 2. How long will it be before people start caring too much and beg Aran to falsify results? 3. How much will that cost? —Alorael, who asks for purely academic purposes. He has no bribe money whatsoever. The bug mistake, or the fact that Icshi apparently keeps an eye on you in an unsettling way? —Alorael, who can think of an alternative, but not a good one. Maybe Icshi knows what will happen in your life because he can see the future! Unfortunately, he's predicted bad things then. So, well, pick your poison. That's still debatable. Google tends to go much deeper into a site with its caches than the Wayback Machine does with its storage. It has many versions stored, but each one may only be a few pages. Google has every single piece of that page cached, but only once. [Edit: It's still a signature, it just has a typo. Some people...] —Alorael, who has no website to give away sensitive information. Maybe if he did he'd appear on Googlism... [ Sunday, August 21, 2005 13:37: Message edited by: 'Lo ] Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

It would do and has done the job. Wiretap is just the kind of thing that is very nice to have and useful in the right circumstances, but not quite useful enough to me for purchase. [Edit: Clarity!] —Alorael, who tried with the Audio Hijack demo as well. Works great with A3 or later Spiderweb games, but doesn't do a thing with Classic applications. Aran never managed to recross the turtle pit. But he tried. That's the important thing. —Alorael, who notes that the rankings have gotten much closer (witht he exception of Ben). The entire rest of the top ten is barely more than 70 posts apart, and removing 8, 9, and 10 reduces the difference to 32. Ben, of course, is a crazy outlyer. I'm sure Drakey has Jeff's loyalty in return for his own loyalty, but that probably doesn't amount to any royalties. —Alorael, who isn't sure if any royarties are involved are not, but if Drakey and Jeff fight over the royalties, you can be sure there will be some lawyerties swarming all over them both! I'm a satisfied Mac customer. Since I can't buy and play through all the games I'd like to buy and play through on Mac, getting a PC would only make it more painful. If there were any truly games to die for not released for Mac, maybe I'd consider switcing (consider only, mind you), but I can't think of any examples. —Alorael, who is also the person who just switched to Mac OS X a few months ago, and who did so not entirely by choice. He still has a backlog of OS 9 games he'd like to play, including some that are now forever lost, or at least lost until Mac-on-Mac is 10.4 compliant.
