Actually, in all forms, that first bubble is appropriate to spam.

Which you get with Safari, too!

—Alorael, who has nothing to hide. It's not like he has a browser to be ashamed of. Now Netscape, that's a shameful browser. IE is just shooting yourself in the foot (or possibly the head).

It's not precisely impossible, actually. It's just impossible to picture and then remain coherent enough to describe it. I hear that extensive therapy can lead to remarkable progress, though. Some of the patients have been able to moan for mercy intelligibly!

—Alorael, who will reserve judgement on the quality of Vogelian change until he sees the end result of said change. You never know. It could be refreshing!

I have been accused by an old lady of backing up into her car in a parking lot. It took me a while to understand the accusation, because I was reasonably sure I hadn't. You see, I had turned on my car but, because she was behind me, kept my foot on the brake. I was obliged to turn off the car, get out, and point to the largish space between our respective vehicles to convince her that no collision had occurred, but to no avail. She insisted on inspecting both cars for signs of damage, then let me off with, "You're very lucky."

—Alorael, who has to take these things seriously. He managed to entirely remove the tail light of another car by backing into a snowdrift. It was only snow, and snow is soft and fluffy. There wasn't quite enough room to turn around, but how much harm could some snow do? Apparently, when they are tall enough, piles of snow may compress in the center to a nice rock-like consistency. And thus hundreds of dollars vanished into the mists.

You know, when someone posts that I double post, I can't delete it gracefully.

—Alorael, whose new mouse (the old one was eaten by a cat, sadly) has many problems, double clicking least among them. He's been trying his best to delete the duplicates, but sometimes a few slip through the cracks. No, this is not following his own suggestion from a few weeks ago.

You do as you're told and make the rules. We didn't spend all that money on spleen and eyebrow implants for nothing!

The White Shock Troopers, on the other hand, got the special implants. You know. With included needle/ferrets and everything.

—Alorael, who wished he had a needle/ferret implant until he realized that there's only one way out and any self-respecting needle/ferret will take it with all due alacrity.

You obviously didn't read all of the complexities of the budding process. It can be very enjoyable when enough crystals are involved.

—Alorael, who feels little need or inclination to continue this line of reasoning, thank you very much.

You're looking at it wrong. Actually, it's the human chefs who have discovered the nutritional values of goblins and ogres. Some choose to specialize.

—Alorael, who wonders if this is more of a revelation than an innovation. Perhaps the truth of "weird meat" has come to light at last.

Once, in the days long ago when RWG was Galactic Core and when I was not a mod there, someone enabled HTML. The results were gruesome. We lost good men that day in entirely unrelated incidents.

—Alorael, who fully fails to suppor the enabling of HTML. Do you really want to tempt fate, luck, and the random number gods at the same time?

There are a few in various slith strongholds. It's an Onyx Key, and the only place that I'm certain has one is the slith fort west of Fort Dranlon.

—Alorael, who thinks but isn't sure that there's one in the Swamp City. There might be one in the Island Fort as well. The one west of Dranlon is surer, though.

If you dropped the items on the ground, then yes, it's possible. If there are too many items on the ground in a town, they start vanishing.

—Alorael, who was under the impression that junk vanished first. If you use up all the junk, though, it might just start random item removal.

Since I intend to have a kilopost by the end of the month, I need to spam. A lot.

Congratulations, by the way! You are almost as superior as Morgan, Kel, and don't let anyone forget it. If they do, poke them with the twin tines of justice.

Weird Vahnatai in The Avernum Trilogy

Vahnatai don't become pregnant. They bud. However, genders are more than just cosmetic. You see, males only produce left sides and females only produce right sides. A pair of opposite genders can work together to make one whole vahnatai, although the process isn't pretty and involves many crystals.

As for your suggestion of the flimsy hammocks (futons!), don't think that budding doesn't involve that. It does. The process involves more crystals, though, and some mold.

Waveblades are very Freudian. Enough said. So are crystals, come to think of it.

Crystals are more than just shiny: they are translucent and multifaceted. Why wouldn't vahnatai like all the crystals they can get? Oh, and if you die, you can maybe end up as a crystal if you're lucky, so there could also be some wishful thinking involved.

With all the time humans have spent around humans, you'd think that we'd all speak each other's languages. Hmm.

—Alorael, who finds Spider's question absurd. Of course a vahnatai would know vahnatai language even if he is really, really young.

Aren't the colors bytes, 0-255? 256 is not byte territory.

I was thinking of photo enlarger colors, only confusedly. Firstly, I don't think the notation applies that way, although it might. Secondly, an enlarger has white at R0G0B0.

—Alorael, who will note that further research revealed that R100G100B100 is "gigawhite of doom" according to the settings of Orbital Death Platform #77F6. And who is he to argue with an orbital death platform?

He checks spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com, and I think that's equivalent. I don't think he has an Irony Central address. At least not according to this.

—Alorael, who would advise giving some kind of Irony Central notification. Otherwise he'll probably file it as Spiderweb only mail and never post it anywhere, and then everyone here will have to be sad.

Posting "I agree" is iconic spam.

Maybe the Barghans should banish their malcontents and inconvenient persons too. I'm sure there's room somewhere in Vantanas...

Does it still say you can't identify the race if you find the body after you meet the vahnatai? Mind you, it is a vahnatai. This is a question of Jeff's attention to detail.

—Alorael, who didn't notice any hair on the vahnatai before, white or otherwise. Maybe it's a mutant. Or maybe even vahnatai are embarassed when they grow bald, or rather never grow hair, and buy wigs.

I understand that ambivalence towards high school is common, but it's usually stated separately rather than by overlap. Or did you hate 11th grade but enjoy your junior year of high school?

—Alorael, who has never lived a life (that he can recall) without going to school, so he doesn't have any firm grounds for comparison. On the whole, though, he'd say that school is more good than bad.
