After the reaction to the A4 screenies/synopsis, and the promise that GF4 will break from the mold, I thought it might be worth seeing what people think of this. Well, other than the easier road to BoE4, Exile is dead. It's kind of like a backward step in both graphics and interface for him. Not going to happen. That said, well, Jeff always needs to make his games better. I don't care if they're good already. More! More! :P But I can understand that Jeff is only one head. -------------------- -ben4808 For those who love to spam: CSM Forums RIFQ Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

Aye. I'v got to say that Marlenny is right on this one. Eventually there are always going to be games that aren't as good, but if he can put a quantity out, with a good amount of effort, eventually there'll be something to please any RPG gamer. -------------------- Aut Tace Aut Loquere Meliora Silencio Posts: 1487 | Registered: Sunday, February 10 2002 08:00 |

Maybe Jeff should grow an extra head. And an extra arm or two while he's at it, just for good measure. -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

Okay, point taken, Icshi. I guess people have just got to realise that either the game is or isn't going to be to their tastes and that instead of pointless speculation and suggestion, they should just get on with their lives and have fun playing the games that they enjoy. -------------------- Aut Tace Aut Loquere Meliora Silencio Posts: 1487 | Registered: Sunday, February 10 2002 08:00 |

Jeff is obviously expected to be a game programming genius then. Well, well. But I do agree that if he's going to make games, they'd better be good. -------------------- -ben4808 For those who love to spam: CSM Forums RIFQ Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

I think that some of it should remain consitent with the previous games, but there is able to be some change. Just think Exile: The area around Kriszan and then the area around Blackcrag fortress — completely different. But then again, that is a fair reason. As long as there is sufficient reasons (i.e lack of shaper prescence in a GF area than anoter), its all good. -------------------- I'll put a Spring in your step. quote:Respectively, Yes he should change more stuff, he should modify the storyline, and No there is nothing wrong with differences in the same world. The graphics should stay the same; it's not broken (especially not Avernum), and same about the combat engine. As long as the background is original, I don't mind using the same interface over and over again. It's the storyline that gets old. The last question is a bit nasty: Consistency is a necessity, but it doesn't exclude a different plot. So while I would like having an entire game be concerned with, say, Vantanas (which would be new), I'm not fond of contradictions between the games. But then, I play for the plot, not the combat, so I'm apparently way out of JV's target audience anyway. -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! As long as A4 as a good quality storyline with an easy to use interface that makes spell casting and combat better, then I'm happy with it. Graphics aren't the reason that many of us chose to play the Avernum/Exile and Genefroge series in the first place. I bet it was the story behind them. People are still going to register A4 one way or another. I'm confident that JV will pull out a quality game. -------------------- "Truly, if there is evil in this world, it lies in the heart of mankind." -Edward D. quote:Perhaps you don't know Icshi. I'm pretty sure that what he really meant, when he said that Jeff ought to grow another head, was that Jeff ought to grow another head. EDIT: I'm sorry, I've done Icshi a gross injustice. In using the phrase 'grow another head', he was of course merely employing a figure of speech. His actual referent would be something impossible to picture in three dimensions. It's not precisely impossible, actually. It's just impossible to picture and then remain coherent enough to describe it. I hear that extensive therapy can lead to remarkable progress, though. No, think of it as Avernum 4. Many differences between the two, the biggest one being that one will never exist. -------------------- -ben4808 For those who love to spam: CSM Forums RIFQ Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

I'd like a change, but there's got to be a happy medium. I hope A4 isn't too similar to Geneforge. Is it just me or are these figures a little dodgy? image [Thuryl's EDIT: Image converted to URL to restore browser sanity.] If you can't see what I'm on about have a look at the second box. I'm sure 68, 48 and 41 don't equal 100. Also the top one only equals 99 but I'm guessing that's just rounding. You can check more than one option, or none at all, in the second box. I clicked all of them, for example. -------------------- Sex is easier than love. Posts: 1861 | Registered: Friday, February 11 2005 08:00 |

Actually, I'm pretty sure that UBB, being UBB, doesn't allow you to check no options at all. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |
