You could just see if the remainder is zero when divided by any number less than the square root of that number. It is definitely less coding. Of course, it may take a bit longer... -------------------- Lt. Sullust Cogito Ergo Sum Polaris Posts: 2462 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |

Alrighty, I've done some digging... S = the set of all sequences of 0's and 1's |P(N)| = |S| |R| = |S| Thus we have |P(N)| = |R|. -------------------- Lt. Sullust Cogito Ergo Sum Polaris Posts: 2462 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |

I'm not completely convinced by that little statement of yours that |R| = |P(N) -------------------- Lt. Sullust Cogito Ergo Sum Polaris Posts: 2462 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |

Using the techniques of Linear Algebra it can easily be determined. As for the use of it, the fibonacci sequence shows up in a surprising number of places. The function itself can be shortened to create an estimating function which is almost the exact same for large enough values of n. [ Monday, September 12, 2005 18:41: Message edited by: Lt. But why would you do it that way when there is actually a formula for the fibonacci sequence? You mean Fibonacci. F(0) = 0 F(1) = 1 F(n) = F(n-1) + F(n-2) I don't think it's all that difficult to program. The only difference perhaps is whether you choose to have F(0) = 0 or 1... -------------------- Lt. Sullust Cogito Ergo Sum Polaris Posts: 2462 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |

I suppose that would've been interesting too, but the fact that so many people said false indicates to me that they would say it is similar in size to N... -------------------- Lt. Sullust Cogito Ergo Sum Polaris Posts: 2462 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |

I agree completely; however, a neither option isn't very appealing... Also, there are infinite infinities, so saying one is 'larger' than the other is alright, if not slighly confusing... -------------------- Lt. Alrighty, time to test your reasoning skills. Supply an answer to each of the following questions. In addition, post your reasoning for said answers. For your assistance, consider the following definitions: N = The set of Natural Numbers (i.e. {1,2,3,4,5...}) R = The set of all Real Numbers (0,1) = The set of all Real Numbers between 0 and 1, not including 0 or 1. Continuum Hypothesis(simplified): There is a set whose size lies between that of the Real Numbers and the Natural Numbers. Poll Information This poll contains 3 question(s). 49 user(s) have voted. Internationally other countries have agreed to released around 60 million barrels of crude oil from their strategic reserves, the U.S. has agreed to release 30 million barrels of it's own supply. This is intended to help quell the rising gas prices; however, this crisis has been a long time coming and this will only put it off... EDIT: And I believe the average of 2.85 was before the Hurricane. It's gotta be over $3 now. [ Sunday, September 04, 2005 14:14: Message edited by: Lt. Sullust ] -------------------- Lt. If you want something which will force you to understand the math you are doing, get a Casio. If you simply want something that you can plug in and get the right answers get a TI. -------------------- Lt. Sullust Cogito Ergo Sum Polaris Posts: 2462 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |
