I savescum without apology. ADOM has made me so paranoid that I often back up my save file before walking around a corner. :P

No, E3 didn't have that - leastways not in Windows. I should know, I remember those long nights of "*click*click*click*click*click*click*click* click*click*click*click*click*click*click*click*click*".

Sister: Are you playing that dumb game again?

Me: How did you know?

They keyboard of course allowed rapid movement just by holding the key. The mouse didn't, hence the noise.

The Avernum games had it though. It's a very convenient feature for walking long distances (and I hope this is what Drakey means by point and click).

On the other hand, the Geneforge way of imitating real-time strategy games was a bit nauseating. Select a group of characters by dragging a box around them? At least they didn't respond with some stupid "Aye Sir" whenever ordered to move. In the beginning, I nearly tried to send the serviles off to gather wood and stone a la Age of Empires. "Now where can I make a new Shaper?"

Ah yes. The background sounds in GF and A3 did a lot to add to the atmosphere. That "whispering" that was always in the Undead dungeons was creepy...

But I find it weird that everyone here lists some kind of battle as their most intense moment - doesn't virtual combat get repetitive after a while?

My most intense gaming moment ever would be while I was entering the Fortress in the Mechanical Age in MYST. I was literally shaking with a mixture of creepy uneasiness and anticipation. That was almost exactly 10 years ago.

Even E3 didn't live up to that, although it came close a couple of times - in the same situations, ie. entering some dark, unknown dungeon of unspeakable power or evil. Combat comes as a cathartic relief in that ominous, tense atmosphere.

I mentioned empiricism. As trustworthy as the other two may be, I only really *know* about one.

Also, older members have the tendency to spend much longer on their posts (that's from experience). Compare with Ents: If it is worth saying, it is worth spending some time to say it. You will find virtually no typos or grammar mistakes, especially not ones made in haste or carelessness.

Although that doesn't work the other way - not everyone who writes carefully is old. I'm not.

Getting canned twice in a life time is very rare, since it is almost equally rare that the canning is revoked.

However, I seem to remember that someone has been canned at least twice.

Since the teratogenic effect is pretty much limited to pregnant women, it's not even that harmful a medication for others - although it is apparently mildly carcinogenic.

Vahnatai vahnatainis.

Also, Elves and Dwarves are commonly capitalized in fantasy fiction, as are Men, when the term is used to refer to humans. But that's an author's choice too, and apparently Jeff decided not to capitalize species names.
