I didn't hear about Djur's project; I meant that rather ill-fated "Center".

As typos go, it was awesome though.

And I guess that while it is not what you were referring to, you would probably object to the "undressing her with the guys" bit as much as or more than the "undressing her with his eyes". :P

If you define "chat" to include a single person talking with nobody listening, then I guess it does. Come to think of it, that's what constitutes many conversations in the real world as well...

Oh, and Alex did not copy me - after all, he didn't know I had done this about a week earlier. :P

The image loads fine, but quite slow. I've got a T1 connection with usually between 200 KB - 500 KB per second, and anyone with a slower connection will wait even longer.

The picture is about 550 KB, which most sources agree is far too large for an online picture. Out of interest, I tried converting it to a jpeg with Photoshop, and got it down to about 56 KB, or one tenth. My eyes aren't very good, but I don't see a quality decrease at the normal zoom level; the "shrunk" picture is here.

:)

--

In other news, I have taken a PHP course this week and will probably re-vamp the PPP archive/Endeavor pages when I get time this weekend. The navigation could be a lot better.

Also, I've been thinking about a scenario database that could be updated by the designers themselves, which could make it far easier both for designers to notify the community about new versions and for players to find scenarios without hunting all over the place.

Nothing solid in the works though, only brainstorming. After all, the last such project was... underwhelming. :P

Though plotwise, very different scores.

It strikes me as odd that you were so ready to change your name and join the ranks of the protesters at the Ash Lael controversy, yet rate Avernum 4 (and Geneforge) higher than Blades of Exile.

It gives me the impression you might be paying lip service to peer pressure, or possibly you are protesting because you need something to protest against?

For some reason, I thought you were going to talk about Jeff's Ouroboros reference in A3.

Anyway, I'd ask for more context to this thread, but then this is general and also I like reading. I have nothing to do this evening, so I'll probably read this. :)

If the chat was supposed to commence at 21 pm EST, yes we did.

Of course, Alex was in the chatroom over four hours earlier, talking to himself. But that hardly counts.

In another sense, it was me who started it this time, since I posted the first iGod chat this year in one topic (don't remember it).

In yet another sense, it was JadeWolf, because he mentioned it in his "I'm Back" topic, thus reminding me...

Spiderweb is to bandwagons and memes what a horde of monkeys is to bandwagons and memes. :P

I am disappointed Aran. You of all people should be able to figure out this one.

Wait!

If I had an AIM client and were to log in from here, AOL would ask me if I want to disconnect all the other connections!

However, I'm not sure if the disconnect would cause Trillian to give up access to the logfile. It might just keep the chat open and wait to be reconnected, keeping the logfile locked all the time...

Edit:

The solution is to use not FTP, but HTTP. The difficult part is that I can only access the "htdocs" directory in the Apache folder directly; the rest of the hard drive is inaccessible.

However, a PHP script can use the include() command to include a file that is outside the apache folder.

To cut a long story short:

[02:38] RealArancaytar: Now, welcome again, invisible ladies and invisible newbies, to tonight's show in our series "Fluffy Turtle Land".
[02:38] RealArancaytar: As you know, every week we gather up a large group of raging lunatics from the uttermost abysses of the Spiderweb board...
[02:39] RealArancaytar: then put them in a chatroom...
[02:39] RealArancaytar: and have them duke it out amongst themselves.
[02:40] RealArancaytar: Now, this is a live reality show, so I must warn you, dear audience. You are about to witness the comdensed insanity of the General forum, where the fluffy turtles reign, where all sanity is left at the door upon entering.
[02:40] RealArancaytar: You may see sights not meant to be seen by any mortal eyes. You will almost certainly see flames or jokes you are not sure you want to understand.
[02:41] RealArancaytar: But remember that we have installed a shield for your personal safety.
[02:41] * RealArancaytar taps a pane of glass in front of him.
[02:41] RealArancaytar: I am currently standing in what we call the, ah, monkey cage. As it were.
[02:42] RealArancaytar: You, however, are outside this impenetrable barrier, sitting around the cage in rapt attention. Be assured that no harm can befall you.
[02:42] RealArancaytar: Physical harm that is.
[02:43] RealArancaytar: This is, as I said, a group of lunatics. Hence, "monkey cage".
[02:43] RealArancaytar: And the best thing is... they don't KNOW they are being watched!
[02:43] RealArancaytar: I am Arancaytar, and I am your host tonight for the show "Fluffy Turtle Land". Now let us wait for the unwitting participants...
[02:45] *** Tyranicus86 has joined the chat.
[02:46] Tyranicus86: Well, I can at least see you this time. Can you see me? :P

etc. etc.

lol.

I have.

I'd post the log, but it's at home, and in spite of me having installed an FTP server on my computer, I seemingly can't access that file from here. I can access all other files, but not the log.

So you'll have to wait until I get home and upload it the old-fashioned way, I suppose.

Edit: The reason being, apparently, that the program is still running and I am still loggin the chat right now. This seems to lock down the logfile even for read-only under Windows. Unfortunately, I have no way to close Trillian from here.

I managed to wake up almost exactly at the chat time. Creepy.

Also, I have tried out Opera with voice control. It's very convincing, although I don't manage to make the computer do everything with voice commands yet. I need the mouse to help it along ever so often.

...

Naturally, everything takes about twice as long to do with voice control, if you don't count the trouble with making the computer understand me.

But heck if it isn't many times as cool as using just mouse and keyboard. Sci-fi! "Computer, please go to the Spiderweb Forums."

So can you use a computer at that time? Just because I have heard some people say you can't, but then I have no idea about Jewish laws, and even less about how they are applied to modern technology.

Not so much "Bad" as "politically controversial". And disregarding the profanity and the insults hurled in absentio, what was being discussed there was controversial, even as a joke.
